One thing I don't get is in eyes.

"Your lady friend asked to deliver this to you, she was unavoidably called away... and the check sir."
"Aw man. Just the check will be fine."

Just the check? His lady friend delivered something to him. A note, her phone number, something. But he declined it. What was it and why did he not take it?

If that's the case, then Jan's story is before the dating game. Is Jersey first, then? Or last?

How the three Acts occur in relation to each other is not known, nor is it terribly important.

The best theory I've heard is that all three begin at the same time, since each seems to begin with some sort of system disruption, perhaps the same system disruption. They don't all occur at once, however, because clearly the Dating Game goes on longer, covering the space of at least three evenings. Jersey meets Durga is much shorter, being just one scene.

Since someone was worrying about it:

I'm pretty certain the Wiki is back up and running, apparently on a lighter framework. Personally, I just hate editing a Wiki with this much activity going on. Too many edits in rapid succession are just going to make it impossible to keep things straight.

I think this was easier for the cloudmakers: one IRC chat room for all the speculative stuff, ONE email list for well-founded stuff, puzzles, and solves. Everyone saw every important theory without having to page through 80-odd pages of posts in a degenerating thread.

You have emergency, the station down in flames right?

Eyes:
"Sir"

"Hold on, yes?"

"Your lady friend asked to deliver this to you, she was unavoidably called away, and the check sir,"

"Aw man, down in flames"

"Just the check will be fine."

So, she had to go the police station and the down in flames is a silent reference to that.

I'm starting to wonder if Emergency isn't part of a whole new act we have yet to hear. If Kamal's date was called away to the police station, it wouldn't fit in the timeline assuming Durga caused the power outages/blips in each act and the police station in question is the same as the station in which Jan was interrogated.

It's possible, though, that the fire could have been caused at the same time as the other blips, having nothing to do with Jan and her act. But again it doesn't quite sit well with me because it sounds like it's trying to emphasize that nobody got hurt, yet there will be nothing left of the evidence held there. Also, the fire department couldn't sense the fire, which tells me there might have been some foul play involved (J^2 "taking care of it?"):

Man: Paris 23 Police Station is on fire. Repeat, on fire!

Emergency Center: Are you sure? I get no reading from the fire sensors, in that area.

Man: Hell yes, I'm sure. Get your damn sensors fixed. You can see this baby burnin from low orbit.

EC: Are there casualties, or missing persons?

Man: Negative, it started slow and everyone got out.

And a little later:

Man: Hurry! The station is burning to the ground, there's not gonna be anything left!

Good Discussion

Good discussion, guys!
I've come up with the orders and who was in each sequence. There are 3 separated groups, each begins with the power blip, which was most likely caused by Melissa/Durga going WIDE AWAKE AND PHYSICAL.

1. Dizzy, 2. Escape, 3. Jersey, 4. Reflected, 5. Durga --Jersey & Durga

1. Blip, 2. [Unknown], 3. Walkaway Girl, 4. Hey_Soldier --Jan & Cops
1.Pqi, 2. Stupid Cop, 3. Yes or No, 4. Hey Dad, 5. Nervous --Cop, Jan, & J2
1. Law Abiding, 2. You Knew --Jan & J2
1. Emergency --Cops

1. Parasites, 2. Eyes --Kamal and Hiro
1. Beer, 2. Four Goats --Kamal and Hiro
1. Our hoodlums, 2. [unknown], 3. Much Lifting --Kamal and Sophia
1. Meditape, 2. You Could, 5. Say Something --Kamal & Sophia
1. Guilty --Kamal & Sophia
1. Message Saved --Kamal & Sophia
1. Tuna, 2. Hi Aiden --Kamal & Sophia spy on Aiden & Celine

We need more clips! I still maintain my theory that there are in fact 111 sound clips to be had in the end.

Also, It may be the same restaurant, but it's also entirely possible that they both happen to be fancy restaurants. Just because two restaurants serve the finest caviar, does not come close to meaning that it's the same restaurant. Not worth spec'ing about until more evidence appears.

It's at least a huge red herring - why mention tuna twice otherwise?

Add in that we already know Aidan is prone to infidelity, and the tuna/restaurant being the only link between these two stories (except possibly the AI in the background), and I really think we're looking at Aidan and Simon being one and the same person (who takes his "dates" to a particular restaurant). Yes, it's spec, but it's nice to have new info to spec on!

At the beginning of the parasites file, Hiro says "the connection went dead for a few seconds"

Well perhaps that event happens simultaneously with Durga going "Wide awake and physical." Maybe in doing so, she caused a brief connection failure in the system....whatever system that is, heh. And then maybe Jan and James' lives will coincide with Kumal and Sophia's along with Jersey and Durga's stories as well.

Also, I was listening to the date .wavs again, and to me it does in fact seem like there is a piece missing between the two parts. Because if you listen to what they're saying, Sophia at the end says "I'm never going back." In reference to "Coral" A town I imagine that they both turn out to be from, that they start talking about..in the middle portion of this date that seems to be missing. That's the only reason why I can think there is a piece missing. I mean, besides the fact that the two don't seem to match up exactly anyway since at the end of one shes laughing and at the beginning, she's replying to something Kumal said.

My feeling is that Coral is some colony 42 light-years from Earth, according to Hiro's statements in beer and four_goats.

Also, Aiden is a black-market hoodlum. If he's involved with smuggling people, it's not unlikely that he'd have at least one alias. Just a thought.

I'm comfortable with Sophia and Kumal's time in the restaurant at the start of their date being just those two wave files [our_hoodlums and much_lifting]. Here's a combined transcript:

Quote:

Sophia: I am so sorry. I mean, you seem like a nice guy and all.
Kamal: It's ok
Sophia: No, it's really not fair, and this place is so nice.
Kamal: Yeah, well, I'm glad you like it.
Sophia: It's just that... I can't tell my mother about Aiden. She'd freak. Aiden's, you know, very...
Kamal: Earth?
Sophia: He has a pony-tail... he's blonde...
Kamal: He sounds great.
Sophia: Yeah, he helps people get through earth immigration, you know, Visa's and whatever. He got my brother here; some of what he does is kinda grey-market, you know. I mean, really, it's black market.
Kamal: But, that's not the problem.
Sophia: No.
Kamal: It's not so bad he's...
Sophia: ...colorful?
Kamal: A hoodlum, just that he's not...
Sophia: One of our hoodlums.
Kamal: (laughs) Yeah.
Sophia: Exactly. Mom would say she understood, but...
Kamal: Then you'd pay.
Sophia: Ya, and the next day she'd just lie in bed, unable to face the day - not that it would be my fault.
Kamal: Mine does housework. Face like a closed book. Big jobs involving much lifting, doesn't need help.
Sophia: The whole house stops breathing.
Kamal: Coral. Maybe it's just a hard place to be a mother.
Sophia: I'm never going back.

"Our hoodlums" refers to the fact that they are both from Coral (a planet or colony 42 light years away) and their mothers just want them to date other people from Coral. Note the perjorative use of "Aiden is just very... Earth."

Sophia's mom wouldn't mind Aiden so much if he was one of Coral's hoodlums.

Yes, good point. But is that partner or partners going to be featured in this story, only time will tell, but it is a good idea.

The voice of the guy in Emergency- the one who is reporting the fire- sounds an awful lot like one of the generals in one of the Halo 2 vids.

It is the one where master chief jumps out of the ship onto Earth. Well one of the guys cortnana is tlaking to during sounds very similar.

Just an observation.

And I realized that when Durga says "I can do better than that," to Jersey's request for pictures of Jan, she might then feed him all of Jan's storyline's audio, maybe more. If not that, I can't figure out why Jersey's storyline just kind of ends. And of course, what's the Jan/Jersey connection to the Dating Game? Confused

I'm guessing that Jersey has a crush on Jan. He's around her age, and lives in the same building as her and her father, so more than likely he sees her on a regular basis, and just doesn't have the nerve to go talk to her.

Coral is presumed to be another planet:

1) Sophie hasn't told her mother on Coral about Aiden because he's just so "Earth."
2) Aiden has helped people immigrate TO Earth.
3) There are enough Halo links to assume that we've spread off of Earth.

In the last 20 pages there's a lot of argument as to whether there's a missing clip between our_hoodlums and much_lifting. I maintain that there is no missing clip:

1) There's one clear missing clip left, and only one clip we haven't unlocked. 'pillow' will go between 'blip' and 'walkaway_girl' because we don't even have complete sentences there.
2) The conversation in 'our_hoodlums' flows just fine into 'much_lifting' -- Sophie chimes in to Kamal's sentence to say that Aiden isn't one of "our hoodlums", causing them both to laugh. Then Sophie says wistfully "Exactly..." before elaborating about how her mother would react if she DID tell her.
3) What content would go into such a gap? There's another whole 45 seconds of them talking about her mother? I doubt it.
4) If you listen to large.wav posted elsewhere in the thread, it's difficult to even tell where the transition WAS.

Just my personal pet peeve topic in this thread, sorry. Smile

Yeah! That is exactly what I thought too. The guy who calls in the Longsword airstrike on whatever that large Covenant siege weapon was. Finally, someone who hears the same voice actors, like I do.
