At the beginning of the parasites file, Hiro says "the connection went dead for a few seconds"

Well perhaps that event happens simultaneously with Durga going "Wide awake and physical." Maybe in doing so, she caused a brief connection failure in the system....whatever system that is, heh. And then maybe Jan and James' lives will coincide with Kumal and Sophia's along with Jersey and Durga's stories as well.

Also, I was listening to the date .wavs again, and to me it does in fact seem like there is a piece missing between the two parts. Because if you listen to what they're saying, Sophia at the end says "I'm never going back." In reference to "Coral" A town I imagine that they both turn out to be from, that they start talking about..in the middle portion of this date that seems to be missing. That's the only reason why I can think there is a piece missing. I mean, besides the fact that the two don't seem to match up exactly anyway since at the end of one shes laughing and at the beginning, she's replying to something Kumal said.

And in the beginning of Jan's story, when the MP's catch her, they mention that they wouldn't have got her if not "for the blackout". More evidence of "Wide Awake and Physical" as a common starting point for the three stories?

We should also be looking for a hook to Melissa's crew in the stories, as these are supposedly their memories...

Not that many payphones are axon hot; only 98 of the 210, leaving 112 cold axons.

EVERY clip has a fraction of a second of silence at the end.

Yeah, but our_hoodlums fades out, instead of the usual cut-off followed by silence.

Durga's Little Secret

Ok,now that we've (for the most part) settled the debate as to whether or not there's a missing clip between Our Hoodlums and Much Lifting, I think we need to ask one of the bigger questions:

Do any of these clips contain hidden information beyond stories? This (and pretty much every) ARG contains a *lot* of steganography, so I think it's a pretty safe bet to assume that there's something hidden in the sound clips. Whether someone's name is an anagram (Durga=Guard, etc), or they threw some text into one of the wavs, who knows. Though something hidden in the files themselves is a bit suspect, since the original delivery mechanism was the payphones, and those were analog, thus disallowing anything to be hidden, bitwise. It's unlikely, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

One thing is sure, we don't have all the pieces (figuratively) yet. Most of the connections we have are just theoretical at best. I'm guessing that once Pillow goes live, we'll get a new set of axons. I don't think all the axons have to go hot in order for us to get more info, I just think we have to complete a set before we get the next one. That makes the most sense since they wouldn't want to give us further pieces of stories until we had finished piecing together the first set, otherwise we'd get ahead and confused.

Also, I posted this a while ago but I think I'll repost it now that we're much more into specing and discussing than piecing together: anyone catch the reference Durga made to "stinging" the programs on Jersey's PDA?

From the Axon page on ILB: "Bee stings—most of the time, when people think they have been stung by a bee, they have actually really been stung by a yellow jacket. Yellow jackets are not bees! Yellow jackets can sting you multiple times. When a bee stings, it dies."

If she stung more than once, she isn't a "bee", she's a "yellow jacket". It can't just be coincidence that she used the term "sting", that was *very* deliberate on the PMs part. That's why they put that information on the Axon page, they wanted us to see it after combining all the wavs.

Also, there are other "Fun Facts" on that page that have some interesting things:

"For centuries, bees have been used to guard valuables. In India bandits used the large Asian honeybee Apis Dorsata to guard loot near mountain caves."

This ties in with the fact that "Durga" is an anagram for "Guard". She's guarding something. Durga is guarding someone or something. Perhaps that's why she can't see herself? If she's a transporter for some kind of information contained within her code/program, she can't look at herself without a key or something, that way only the right people have access to what it is she's hiding.

And also, Durga is the name of one of the more violent aspects of Kali, the Hindu goddess of war. And what country is predominantly Hindu? INDIA! The quote mentions bees being used to guard things in India. She's guarding something, because there's a war (goddess of war?) coming. C'mon, it's just *too* choice to not have meaning here...

Give it up man. Even if there *is* a gap in there, we have *absolutely* no idea as to whether or not it even matters. For all we know, this conversation might even be a red herring! Until we get Pillow, I think we're going to have to bank on the assumption that there IS no gap. And if Pillow *does* go between these two (I doubt it) that would mean there's still a *much* more obvious gap between Blip and Walkaway Girl. How did they go from talking about her being on the ceiling to her father in one sentence? It doesn't make sense. What makes a *lot* of sense is that pillow is the clip missing in between those two, which neatly ties everything else up, assuming there is no gap between Hoodlums and Lifting.

Seriously. You're clinging to a very tenuous thread here, and debating whether or not it's true isn't really very productive, we need to focus on figuring out what these clips are trying to tell us, not quibbling over the last missing piece and where it goes.

Hm. I definitely agree with the idea that Durga is a yellow-jacket guarding something. I hope we get to find out just what she's guarding.

Agreed. We have to assume that nearly everything on that page is somehow deliberately tied to the story, including the bee stuff.

Jay?

Also, what's with the repetition of the letter J? Half the frickin names start with a J, not exactly the world's most common letter. Jersey. Jason. Jan. James. Jefferson. I mean, James' name is James James! JJ! J^2!

Most of the major characters names begin with J. I find that *very* unusual, to say the least. I can't yet figure out why, or what it means, I have some far fetched theories if anyone wants to hear them, but nothing worth posting about yet.

True. As far as games go, there's a reason for everything.

And the spec continues (either I'm cranking out interesting discussion material, or spamming the crap out of these boards, if so, I apologize).

Sophia's last name is *NOT* bosseneau. Listen *very* carefully to Kumal as he says it. That's not an N in the middle, I'm pretty sure it's an r (accented dipthong) followed by an "on" sound. I'm pretty sure it's 'Bosseron'. A quick google of that reveals that "Bosseron" is french for "bed and breakfast".

Reaching? Maybe. But I'm *very* convinced it isn't Bosseneau, which doesn't get a single hit on google, and the closest match doesn't seem very relevant.

EDIT: actually, 'Basaran' makes more sense, and that is apparently a Turkish word, which ties in with 'Janissary', which is also Turkish.

Not that I think this is a connection to anything, but, given this thread, it's funny that the guy who "created" Halo (project lead and Bungie co-founder) is named Jason Jones. Very Happy

Well, if she's not spamming, I will for one quick humor point...

Does anyone else feel afraid at work, like someone's gonna come by, see you reading a thread entitled "Hot Axons Wav Files" and think you're a sicko with a perverted neurology fetish or something?

Good. Me neither.

Wink

I was convinced out of my initial guess which was Bassanon.

The reason it was concensused to Bosseneau is thanks to the first people to axon the 'four_goats.wav'.

But "Boisseneau" will get a lot. I'm not saying your wrong, since the firewall at my office makes listening to stuff online basically impossibly. It's just a thought I had when you were talking about French names.
