[META] The PM behind Urban Hunt?

OK, I was getting bored and frustrated so I decided to go out of game. Based on vague hints others here dropped about the real company that might be behind this, I did some Googling.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.tagteammedia.com/artist_eugenemirman.htm

There's absolutely no solid proof that this guy, and the company, are behind UH. But a couple of things do suggest this possibility. (The company's name, address and the career background of this guy.)

Personally, this doesn't "spoil" anything for me...after all, I know this is a game. But, no, there doesn't appear to be any clues about the game itself here.

Now back to the ARG still in progress... Very Happy

Alrighty, um, I really don't like peeking behind the curtain, but we discovered something in chat a while back that was behind the curtain. I don't want to say too much other than it's not to do with the guy in that link.

And, if you really, really, really insist on knowing:

EDIT - Please, please, please don't look at this, or indeed read the rest of this thread if you want to keep the curtain closed. I would rather not have known, but we came across it very much by accident.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Open up the map documents (I think it was bp4 we used) we got from the webmaster tools in notepad, and have a dig about in there. There's a name which many ARG veterans will recognise.

I hope I'm not crossing the line by posting this Embarassed *feels bad*

Ya know. Before posting stuff like this, whether you turn out to be right or wrong - You really need to either register and sign in, SIGN your post, or somehow identify yourself.

/me hates anonymous 'Guest' postings Cursing

The website to which this 'Guest' points does not appear to have much to do with ARG or reality tv....just public relations (okay publicity might be it's one tie-in: are they really doing a REAL show?). This makes /me wonder if it's SPAM. Evil or Very Mad

I was thinking of Locky! but the chatroom was not unanimous so the thread remains open. If you are spec'ing on the PM, please remember the extra careful spoilers (good job, sequoya) because some people enjoy the fact this has been a pretty closed curtain.

Agreed, kona.

Plus - I really don't think this should be in Interaction..

[Edit: moved and relabeled appropriately]

I spec'd this in chat the first day, after seeing the Dreadhouse site.

Huh? Oh well, I guess I'm just too much of an ARG n00b to understand.

i opted not to peek behind the spoilers, but i would like to know something from those of you who feel pretty certain you know who the PMs are...

do you think the game will end with a revelation about who designed it?
or is it more like the PMs will take a bow after the game is over.

what i mean is, do you think the ending will tie-in to the PMs, like using the ARG as a publicity thing.

I would say the PM's may take a bow *after* the game is over.

Major behind the curtain spoilers

I'm a ARG n00b too, but since I was jonsing to tear back the curtain, I used the spoiler above as a "trailhead" of sorts, and was able to find the likely PM in about ten minutes or so.

First, I completely agree with enaxor, that this is a "pure" ARG, not a product tie-in, or anything like that, and I'm confident that it will eventually have a very satisfying end.

Also, for the other newbies who want to peek behind the curtain, here are two more clues which may help you on your way.

WARNING: these are NOT in-game clues, these are look-behind-the-curtain clues, and as such if you follow them, you run a very real risk of disrupting the immersive feeling so importnt to a good ARG. That said, if you still want to peek behind the curtain, here's how I did it:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As described in the spoiler above, get a copy of the file "bp4.doc," posted by Wishi-san, here:

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5103&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=59

Open the file with Windows Notepad (not Word), turn on word wrap, if it's not already on, and look through the file carefully.
99% of the file will be garbage, but if you look closely, you will find a couple names you can read.

Remember, the most prominant name in the file, "Steve Rowan" is in-game, so that's not who you're looking for.

Once you find the name, do a Google search on it, and you should find enough information to satisfy your curiosity.

This is my first ARG, but the history of ARGs, and of our likely PM, is pretty interesting.
As a result of what I found, I think I'm starting to get interested in ARGs in a big way.

The clue above is everything I used to find the likely PM. But if you've looked through that, and you're still having trouble, here's another clue:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Check out this recent post, especially the other ARG mentioned:

OK, enough behind the curtain stuff - time to get back to the game... Very Happy

Dmax and I SPECed the same in chat very early on(based on site designs), but when I mentioned it, he asked me to kind of keep a lowtone on it...I think it's pretty good idea.

So forget I even wrote this...

PM oopsy

Just a note that I've sent an email to warn PM about recent hole in the curtain.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Hi Reed

Congrats on the release of your book. It looks great, if a bit spooky.

Just wanted to let you know that the Lulu site might have made some kind of a mix-up and when you click to go to Ann Starling's page you go to someone called **** ******'s page instead. Don't know if it's something you can sort, but I thought you'd like to know Smile

You know what's funny about this? I had no idea who the PM was. I didn't even really think about it to be quite honest. But I did send in an Urban Myth about...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
a being called "the Wish" and "Ash Grove Park"

I'm guessing that PM thought I was on to them and was just bragging. I wasn't really! I had no idea!
