Coral may not even be the name of a planet. It could be a certain area on the planet, or a base. It could even be on an asteroid or moon for all we know right now.

EDIT: And I belive that map only shows star systems, not the names of planets are settlements.

if it's not in the books or history, [spec] maybe it's under Earth's seas?

This is an intriguing speculation, when you consider Halo 2. For months now, there have been rumors of a moon level and a trip to the Covenant homeworld. Judging by the human race's expansion into deep space, underwater habitation wouldn't be too surprising. Still, the name 'Coral' doesn't seem too much like an apt name for a place on earth... perhaps there is an underwater colony on another planet, maybe one with no land, just ocean? Toss that idea around if you like.

I also like the idea of Coral being similar to a beehive. The part that stood out the most to me was the idea of many 'bees' in one hive. This reeks of the Flood (the infamous zombie-mutant things from the original Halo game)! Any other Halologists think so?

Oh, and on a side track here, isn't a Covenant homeworld kind of redundant? If the Covenant are made up of several different castes of different species, it's obvious that they originate from all over space. Maybe the homeworld is actually the birthplace of the Prophets (rulers of the Covenant castes)?

Until ILB, Troy was never mentioned either.

It's not really that redundant... They have religious/spiritua names for everything. Harbinger, Phantom, Seraph, Banshee, Ghost, Wraith, Shade, Covenant, Prophet... (and supposedly Apparation and Creep). All religious words or another word for a spiritua.

Most of those names are human constructs. Banshees are called banshee because of what they're called in Covie speak. They're called that because that's what humans assigned it.

Like grunt, or elite, or jackal.

Proper names, on the other hand, seem to be translated. IE Truth and Reconcilliation, Ascendant Hierophant, what have you.

But, I think you're missing the point Ceantari. Identifying a Covenant homeworld would be redundant, because there'd be seven of them. A single Covenant homeword would be hard to assign. Ater all there are SEVEN distinct races in the Covenant, with SEVEN distinct origins. It might be possible to have a Capital Planet, and the names assigned to significant planets by the Prophets would be significant.

If you connect 2 sound files together, they say that coral is 42 light years away, so it cant be on earth.

This whole aquatic city idea made me think. Ive read about how halo was originally in development for i think mac. technically the game was in development for like 10 years because of the platform switch. Anyway, i remember reading about stuff that was seen in early versions of the mac game (i remember reading this on ign i think). Specifically there was an UNDERWATER level. perhaps the reason it was left out of halo is becuase it was never meant for halo and bungie was working on the whole series at the same time? i cant see any connections to this setting of coral and master chief however, i cant see what would require MC swimming around down there either. but it did make me think...
