Maybe this is a tale of 3 Melissas?

Which three did you have in mind? The Operator, the Sleeping Princess, and Durga?

Yulp.

Wondering how many female AI's with bad memory and a penchant for spying on others there can be in one little nook.

Re: Pious Flea changes resist to reveal

My belief is that the above quote is what the Operator says prior to the Pious Flea "taking control" or whatever you would call it.

The Pious Flea makes a change in that statement so that it becomes:

"seek, evade, reveal, escape"

I think the Pious Flea has actually caused two changes. Melissa's original mantra -- and the one Durga uses in escape.wav -- is "survive, evade, resist, escape." The Flea likes to seek, behold, and reveal the truth. Put 'em in a blender together and you get "seek, evade, reveal, escape."

...but wasn't Melissa's favorite game always "hide and seek"?

Yeah, but probably not the first thing that is supposed to be on her mind when she's behind enemy lines.

Course, it's a bit odd considering the Cole protocol anyway. Can AI's take a poison pill?

In the Operator's Monologue, Melissa uses two variations of S.E.R.E. She first says, survive evade reveal escape. Then a few lines down she says survive evade resist escape. If these three A.I.'s are all Melissa, maybe the Queen/Operator(now) is the corrupted weapon, as she states the weapon is the most important thing she is. Corrupted because of the Flea. Durga acts in somewhat the same manor, so she could be the original weapon. Targeting for information, using survive evade resist escape. And the Sleeping Princess could be the translation portion. She seems to understand different languages, (the use of French in killer.jpg, any other examples?) and also being better at encyption, being able to hide text in images and whatnot. Think I may be on the right path?

3 melissas? isn't there talk of 3 swords? and the Widow having 3 tools to defend herself and save the queen?

also, in the durga/jersey conversation, this bit caught my attention when discussing names:
Jersey: That sucks. Ok, I'm gonna call you Durga
Durga: But what if that's wrong?
Jersey: Trust me, it's at least partly right.

he seems to know more about her than he lets on.
any ideas?

I think there may have been something there, *sorry if this is trout* Durga is known in India as a goddess. to quote a website,

"In answer, the three Gods combined their divine energy and summoned up a feminine form so brilliantly glaring that it illuminated the heavens. From the glow emerged Durga, a beautiful woman with ten arms riding a lion. Despite her grace she bore a menacing expression, for Durga was born to kill. Fully grown and beautiful Durga was immediately armed by the gods and sent forth against Mahishasura bearing in each of her ten hands, symbols of their divine power.
A fierce battle took place. Finally when Mahishasura in the guise of a buffalo charged against Durga, the Devi beheaded the buffalo and from it emerge Mahishasura in his original form. Durga pierced his chest with the trident and relieved the world from the evil power. That is why she is 'Durgatinashini Durga', our mother goddess who destroys the evil, protects her devotees and establishes peace and prosperity on earth."

*Again sorry if this is trout. I didn't see anything specific during a search, even though I know this had to be an earlier find.*

Maybe Jersey said calling her Durga is partly right because like in the blaze's reference, the goddess Durga killed demons. And the AI Durga in the story killed the navy sentinels, so maybe Jersey was glad not to have them in his comp. Maybe?

No he's just still mad at her for distroying Jeannie.

[META] the author sure is fond of the letter J.

I always thought it was Genie, but that's just how I heard it. Jeannie isn't a very common name over here. J isn't actually all that rare a letter (despite its Scrabble score) for names, but yes, there do seem to be a few too many Js around.

Yeah. Even without Jeannie. Jersey, Jason, James, Janissary, and Janet? Maybe none of these people are who they say they are. Maybe we're ignoring the relationship between Jersey and Janissary too much?

I'm still uncomfy with Durga = Melissa. Assuming the Apocalypso is Melissa's ship (which it well might not be), the timeline just doesn't seem right. Melissa flies by Troy, spies on the Covenant, picks up a Flea, an artifact and a Castaway, then jumps to Earth, lands on Jersey's computer for some unknown reason and then mysteriously ends up here?

Maybe whatever transmitted Melissa here sent out more than one copy? One here and one in the future?

i figured it was 'Genie', because she's an assistant, you "rub the magic lamp" and out she pops to do your bidding... like in Aladdin
also, genie is an anglasized form of the word djinn, which is the original word for the Hindu spirit / demon (had to do your bidding, but were kinda evil)

it just made sense, tying one Hindu goddess (Durga) into another Hindu mythological figure

True. Durga must be "before" Melissa. So then the question is, I guess, if they are the same - how does the same AI keep getting trapped on Earth?

maybe M and or D are experimental spies? They have a design flaw in that their memory capasity is affect by the size of the system they land in. Not being able to access ones ID would protect the sender and align with CP.
