And I still insist that it doesn't have to be one-single-story.

Remember, we got the previous text bytes separate, too - and they didn't form a consistent story, either.

Hence, I wouldn't force those into "what Durga shows Jersey". I'd stick with "Jersey meets Durga", and "Kamal's dates", and "Jen's adventure", parallel in time, not necessarily interconnected.

Although the correlation between the following anomolies is extremely coincidental and common through the 3 events:

Jersey: Restarting, what the? Oh man, the whole friggin' system just collapsed...

Hiroyuki: I don't know, the connection went dead for a few seconds...

Frank: Massive power interrupt...

With these 3 events being parellel, it would seem that Emergency and Kamal's Blind Date (see www.thebruce.ca) occur afterwards at some point.

Bah! While I'm typing, I'll throw in my huge spec that Jason sent Durga to Jersey via a radio broadcast from Melissa's ship. We know Jason deploys radio beacons, and the appearance of Durga to Jersey seems pretty random otherwise.

Binarius, I'm completely with you.

msekolpsu, that's a very interesting point. If all three stories take place in close physical proximity (e.g., same city) then perhaps one large event started all three stories. We know Jersey and Jan live in the same building, and Jan and James drive home from the police station, therefore Jersey is near the military base. No information about where Kamal and Sophia are, except that they're not in Buffalo or Atlanta. We can reasonably infer that the "power interrupt" at the military base, whatever it was, may have knocked out Kamal and Hiro's connection, and really messed up Jersey's system.

I think it's important to note that the Date sequence seems to happen over a matter of days, and the other sequences happen in a few minutes or hours.

Exactly!

So, it is possible for the following to occur in real time together (they all start at the blackout event) -

dizzy - Jersey's New Personal Assistant
parasites - Kamal's Date
blip - Janissary's Caught

if you check www.thebruce.ca/ilovebees anyway. It would seem pretty random to overlay the wav files from that point, right?

questions about the tapes...

So are we assuming that basically everyone is being "ghost"-ed? I imagine that has to be the case because otherwise, how would we have a record of the goings on? I bring this up because who'e doing the ghosting? is it Melissa?

I suppose it makes sense jor the Jersey story if Durga is Melissa. It makes sense if Durga is following Jan for Jersey, But then what about the police station burning down and what about Kamal? Who's watching them and why? I mean other than relaying the information on ghosting, what is the purpose of the Kamal sequence? How is it relevent in the bigger picture, I mean why not have Jersey explain ghosting? and why would they randomly ghost the police station? None of the main characters were there anymore...there's got to be something more to this whole thing...

Perhaps Durga is Melissa, but not quite. I like the theory that Melissa is infected with something on the ship (see Phase 1).

On Melissa's ship, Greene and Sorenson are obviously freaked out by whatever Covenant transmission they recieved. Perhaps as the ship is going down, Jason rigs a radio broadcast of the AI to Jersey's PC, which causes the power outage and starts all the ghosting. Jason is the Castaway and knows Melissa (she sits with him).

Anyway, the ship blows up, Melissa and the 'virus' are beamed to earth as a warning and the corrupted (or combined) Melissa AI manifests itself as Durga.

Perhaps she learns how to ghost by seeing Hiro and Kamal do it because she is in the proximity and that conveniently explains Kamal.

Plus, I'm sure there will be more wav's. Maybe our mission is to get the Covenant transmission back to the future! Where's the DeLorean?

Binarius -

I agree that they're not all one single story. I think there are 3 stories, two of which happen to involve Jan James.

My evidence:

We've got 3 pieces with long wind-up:
dizzy
blip
parasites

And 3 with long wind-down:
you knew
emergency
hi aiden

Which seems like a big hint that there are 3 story lines. We all thought that "you knew" and "emergency" were in the same line, but maybe we were wrong. They can't both be end pieces if they're in the same storyline.

That's why I think "law abiding" and "you knew" actually go with the Jersey/Durga story.

Another interesting point to note, which seems to fit with Bungie's fondness for the numbers 3 and 7:

- Jersey/Durga has 7 sections: dizzy, escape, jersey, reflected, durga, law abiding, you knew

- Intruder! has 10 sections (7+3): blip, pillow, walkaway girl, hey soldier, pqi, stupid cop, yes or no, hey dad, nervous, emergency

- Kamal's Love Life has 13 sections (7+3+3): parasites, eyes, beer, four goats, our hoodlums, much lifting, meditape, you could, say something, guilty, message saved, tuna, aiden

Now, the numbers may be total coincidence, but it looked good to me. Smile

but we start following Kamal before he explains what ghosting is and before the power surge.

Yes, but an AI wouldn't need an explanation. Durga seems more intact than when we found the Queen. Durga could ramble off Jersey's life at lightning speed. My spec is that she saw Kamal and Hiro chatting (not ghosting at this point since Kamal knows Hiro is talking to him), but there's probably more there.

The 'grey' reference between Sophia and Kamal and the 'grey' designation Durga gives James James seems related.

What about the wind up at the beginning of emergency?

Check the Bruce's site, I think he's got the start finish going on with the windup and downs

I disagree. The Jersey story starts before Durga is in Jersey's system (see dizzy.wav). If you make the claim that Durga is Melissa and these are her memories, then you also have to make a much more rediculous claim that Melissa was spying on Jersey, THEN got transferred to his computer, THEN was able to maintain perfect continuity in the recording through her period of dizziness, disorientation, and fighting off two Navy sentinels chasing her.

I find that scenario unlikely. Either these aren't Melissa's memories or Melissa isn't Durga (or both).

That's a short wind-up. There are lots of short wind-ups and wind-downs. They seem to represent time passing or a change of venue. For example, between "hey soldier" and "pqi" - still part of the same overall story, but now we're at the police station instead of the restricted area on the military base.

If you listen closely you'll really hear the difference between the long and short versions. Compare the beginning of "pqi" to "dizzy", for example - dizzy's much longer. Or compare the end of "hi aiden" to the end of "eyes".

I think that's the key.

I don't see why it's so improbable that Durga is an infected Melissa. What we actually see with Jersey is Jeanne restarting. We do come in after a blip because it starts off with him stating 'Hello?' as if something just happened.

I think if Durga could figure out so much information so quickly, she could have immediately been recording conversations.

Good defense! Didn't realize that.
