SOLVED (?): The Eight Queens (New link on LLL.com)

This sounds like background story for the "8 queens" problem.
It's a classic chess puzzle where you take 8 queens and try to place them on your 8x8 chess board, so that none of the queens can attack each other.
That means there are no 2 queens on the same row, or the same column, or even on the same diagonal.

If you've heard of it, feel free to try it yourself.
I'll post 2 links shortly.

Links - some of which contain solutions.

Links - some of which contain solutions.

ScarpeGrosse and I found 2 (of the hundred) helpful links about the 8-queens problem.

this link has a java implementation of the chess board, and lets you place the queens. It will tell you which queens are still "under attack" and will tell you when you solve it.
http://www.pvv.ntnu.no/~hgs/java/queens/simple.html

this link actually runs through every possible combination of the chess board, checking to find ALL solutions.
apparently there are 92 different solutions.
Most of them are not unique, in that if you find 1 solution, then you can probably rotate the board 3 more times to get 3 other solutions, and then "flip" the board over and rotate to get 4 other solutions. All 8 solutions are equivalent (" <ScarpeGrosse> rotational symmetry - the glory of geometry")
At this link, choose one of the 8 digit numbers on the right, and press View, and it will show you that layout.
If you didn't solve it at the pvv.ntnu.no site, then take notes from theparticle, and go back to pvv.ntnu.no and try it.

Here is another representation of one of the 92 solutions.

Chess! I didn't think of that...

I still made an attempt at answering the Queen's puzzle from a lateral puzzle perspective. I'll let you know what I hear back from L3.

Ok so we have a page that retells the 8 Queens chess puzzle background story.

We know its referring to chess. We know there are 12 unique solutions to it.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Queens shown on the page are:

1. Charlotte, Queen of ?
2. Liliuokalani, Last Hawaiian Queen
3. Mary, Queen of Scots
4. ?????
5. Hearts, Queen of
6. Hearts, Queen of
7. Anne, Queen of Denmark
8. Victoria, Queen of England

This gives us CLM?HHAV. If the 4th one was a T we'd have something like CHAV HTML or CHAVL HTM. Doesn't look very promising and its unlikely her name starts with T.

They certainly went to a lot of trouble getting those pictures though (spread across the Internet) and a the inclusion of a Hawaiian Queen is unusual but we basically got bupkus here.

So far, this page looks like a dead end for now.

I know we've solved this, but for the sake of completeness, last week I asked the experts at http://www.mandysroyalty.org , and they thought that our 4th queen was Catherine Howard: Fifth Wife of King Henry VIII. I see several portraits of her, and I agree. However, I was unable to find the exact jpg used.
