[SPEC] The Castaway is Jason Morelli

I posted this last night in the giant axon wav file discussion thread but thought to give it it's own thread here. If you disagree with it, or want to make any comment, go ahead.

Jason Morelli is the Castaway!!!!
At first I wasn't positive, but I listened and researched more, I am almost 100% positive about this. I would post a new thread but I can't.
We all know the information about the Castaway, gotten from the links on the fun page. Here it is again anyways:
Quote:
"Humor me," the Castaway said, playing music in his room, ancient music, Jazz and Swing, all in the mood. "Melissa", he said, "Have a drink with me". I don't drink, but I asked for something anyway and sat, holographically, and drank with him. He wasn't regular crew, just along for the ride. We picked him up in deep space, where he deployed Buoys, sending out waves of sound to confuse the Enemy. A man that seemed noble, classical and pure. A sailor with Odysseus. He told stories about soldiers caught waist deep in water, facing the enemy, their backs to the Sea. "Melissa", he called me Melissa, never used my nickname, "It's a sad thing I'm married, You could break my heart". The weather was stormy, scratched vinyl and all of us, a long way from home: I felt real.

In the conversation between Jersey Morelli and Druga, this is the first important link that comes up, and most important probably.
Quote:
Your father Jason is a corporal in the signal core attached to naval intelligence, radio beacon deployment program. He left you the material currently playing over this rooms audio servers.

Which is of course, jazz. Like what he was listening to with Melissa. Jason Morelli is married just like the Castaway. He uses the phrase, unfortunately to Melissa. It turns out that in Druga's observations, Jason's wife Bermida (is that right?) is cheating on him with a man named Simon Brown.
I think this is a all very conclusive, but I guess it still somewhat scepticism at this point. But both were found on the fun stuff page, and it just seems more than a coincidence to me.

OK, I gotta say I like the music<->music and job<->job connection ... really good work.

But what does the father of this guy have to do with a potentially pivotal character in Melissa's recent past? Is this just odd kismet?

I'm not saying it's not true, it sounds really possible. I'd say either Jason or Jersey would be candidates, depending on how the rest of the files place in a timeline, and maybe just knowing that will prove useful down the road.

Ahi

I think it's easily strong enough of an insinuation to be considered fact.

Just like the tuna.

Bungie buries the ties deep and with much subtly. It's no fun if they spell it out plainly.

Some timeline speculation, if I may:

If we run with the idea that Durga = Melissa in some form, then logic states that one of two things are true:

1) "The Castaway" memory comes BEFORE Jersey and Durga meet.
2) "The Castaway" memory comes AFTER Jerset and Durga meet.

(Hoping that Durga = Melissa), there could be evidence either way on this. My favorite (although a bit far-out, I s'pose) guess is that once Melissa's crew started having problems, she started searching for her old "love", Jason (The Castaway). She gets to Earth, crashes, and is damaged. Her memories are damaged and fragmented (as we've seen throughout this whole game). This could explain her finding Jersey.

Some things might not follow though. For one, she has no memory / reaction when explaining (to Jersey) her data on his dad. However, Durga's damaged state and the situations seem too (a) important and (b) recent to have happened BEFORE she "falls" for the Castaway. Hm. Confused

[/wild wild west. ...I mean, spec]

But yes, I wholeheartedly agree with Jason Morelli = The Castaway. *thumbs up* Very Happy

Unfortunately, these sound clips CANNOT be from Melissa after-crash. In the new Hives page, she clearly states that she is in a DIFFERENT TIME than the one she previously occupied (A.K.A. our time, 2004). We don't have personal com networks or automated dispatchers in 2004.

Although the Jason Morelli=Castaway theory really rubs me the right way...I just can't think how she can be on her ship meeting him at some point but also on Earth at some time meeting his son, but acting as if she hasn't met his father.

You know, it occurs to me that we might be making an unwarranted assumption here.

We've been assuming that whatever catastrophe happened to Melissa's ship is the same occurrence that sent her back to our time. It's the simplest explanation, and it neatly combines two (or more) unknowns into one. In addition, Melissa herself seems to think that the shipwreck is the last thing that she remembers happening,

But we don't know that.

If you believe that Melissa is "Durga" -- and not everyone does -- it is at least theoretically possible that whatever virus affected her when she was with Captain Greene's ship could have had nothing to do with her journey through time. She could have ended up on Jersey's computer system, damaged, uncertain where she was, and unsure even who she was, after the virus but before she ended up on Dana's computer system in 2004 (still damaged -- and apparently in far worse shape than before -- still uncertain where she is, and still unsure even who she is). Thus, QBKooky's SPECulation could still be valid.

(I will add to the chorus of voices agreeing that the Castaway is the elder Morelli, if for no other reason than it would be far too cruel a coincidence to have two unrelated characters with the same job and musical tastes.)

So if Morelli is the castaway, this is a possible vector for the Flea -> melissa (if you're of the Melissa != Durga camp)

But, this is definitely signifiact, I think a good re-read of backstory (Reason for the damage pages) with the new wav files is needed.

Responding to GSC that either Jason or Jersey could be the Castaway, there is a good, humorous reason Jersey couldn't be the Castaway.
Quote:
"It's a sad thing I'm married, You could break my heart".

That from the Castaway talking to Melissa, the AI.
Quote:
Sorry tutz, for a quality experience, the girls have to be real

And that from Jersey. Might not be a concise point, but it is funny.

But if these clips are from past events, Jersey probably doesn't talk like that anymore.

If the Durga != Melissa spec is true, then Jersey could be about 50 or 60 or so by the time he's picked up on Melissa's boat.
