Try idling in the IRC channels. [sarcasm] People never repeat the same thing over and over again, and they always stay on topic. [/sarcasm]

Take a step back and look at this from a slightly different point of view. What did not happen on the 24th? Did the sites go down? Did an amount of bandwidth get used equal to what a normal 500 person business would use in a life time get sucked down? Were calls placed to payphones across the country? Did random groups of people get together and meet IRL that would never talk to each other on a bus in in a hundred years? Did a event that crossed over ARG and Games occur? Did the number of posts on UF in a single day top what some games generated in months bring the site down? (oh and on this topic take a moment to look up and say YOU GUYS ROCK to the mod's who keep this thing going and kept the boards up) Were you not presented with broadcast quality snippets of info all day by what are clearly professional actors and not something that sounded like a JR High acting class....and on and on and on....

[\rant]

Whoa now just because Bill Gates did not stop by and give you his ring does not mean nothing big happened.

As I am sure it will be said again....

You get what you pay for.....

Take a moment and think about all of the good things that have and are happening.

Then say THANK YOU!

You're probably right. I guess part of my dissapointment is the fact that so much emphasis was put on august 24th. Just thought things would take a faster pace after the 24th.
You're right, the nationwide movement was huge. You're also right on how the response was astronomical.
However, I can help but feel was if I'm at a dead end. I've fiddled with the files for so long that I'm forgetting what exactly I'm doing this for.

Though it would have been nice to get a phone call from Bill Gates! LOL!

One winner

If I get "da fish" it's not for lack of looking for this elsewhere.

I think this will be a game with a definitive winner(s). I base this on The Sleeping Princess's little blurb in the 404'd page.

Dorkmaster wrote me a letter with a fun idea inside, which was to play a question game, only and please don't be mad about this, only your game has no way for someone to WIN, and I like games where someone wins.

Of coarse how this will happen or what sort of rewards metaphoric or physical is still up to speculation, but that's my two cents.

I think the second best part is going to look back on the wav files (most likely a month or 2 from now) and saying "OHHHHHHHHHHH! NOW I GET IT." The best part is actually seeing the puzzles in action. Rock on.

For me the big reward on the 24th was the new clues: The Game Has Not Ended Yet!

I was so afraid that something, anything would happen that would end the experience that I was overjoyed with the reward of the wav files.

Spec: The next phase will require us to answer melissa's questions about the wavs

*sigh* I really don't think I would have thought the Cortana letters were an ARG. Maybe at first I would've hoped. Dunno Seem to be just puzzling and mysterious emails to me.

Its ok, since the whole "this has nothing to do with Halo" opinion from ARGers, I've learned to cut them a little slack. Smile

Please stop saying that the "ARGers" have a collective opinion. It would be like me saying that all Halo fans think they were going to get a Halo 2 demo on August 24th. Some ARGers said it had nothing to do with Halo, some said it might have something to do with Halo, some said it looks like it is going to have something to do with Halo, some said what's Halo? Most were simply saying don't outright assume it has to do with Halo because of the trailer, there's a chance it may not. Geez Rolling Eyes

Don't worry, I promise not to point it out when ILB slows down before/after H2's release. Well, ok, thats a lie, but I'll be nice about it. Smile

I still don't see why that matters or why you think all of us disagree with you. I'm sure activity probably will slow down when Halo 2 releases. If this is meant simply to be a marketing exercise for Halo 2, I'm sure they have figured out when the prime time is for ILB to end in order to maximize its affect on Halo 2 sales/preorders. For all we know they could plan on making this last until after Christmas, since Christmas is a prime time for video game sales.

I still don't understand why you insist on saying this is a "bungie puzzle" not an ARG. An ARG is a bunch of puzzles with some interaction thrown in. Is this not what has been happening?

Why can't we all just enjoy where this is going, wherever that may be? Very Happy

[SPEC]I'm betting on something...soon.

The backstory is nice, I'll give it that, but I'm expecting at least a code or something. It could be tied to the unlocking I'm used to from video games, such as the Megaman Collections I've been playing on my Gamecube recently. (A few good tunes, some developer's pictures, home versions of two games I formerly had to drive to Detroit to play, and...well, a G4 interview....) I also expect to see it soon, simply because Halo 2's set to be shown off at the Penny Arcade Expo on Sunday from 2:30 and 5:00 P.M. PST, and cats will be flying out of bags if there's any relation between this ARG and that game observed.

(For that matter, someone besides Tycho needs to have their eyes peeled at that event and report back here if anything shows up.)

One of the possibilities is that Dana may be in the game as a code or a character (hidden and/or playable). This guess stems from her latest post, where she says she's all in. There's also the slight chance of Texas Hold'em being involved, but I'll doubt that until ilovebees shows up on ESPN. Very Happy

I was wondering... what happens at the end of most ARGs? I've looked at what people said about Beast, but it doesn't seem like there was a sudden announcement that the game was done, the credits rolled and then all the info was erased. Obviously there were discussions with PMs afterwards, but it doesn't seem like most games where everything is suddenly just done.

Early on, I thought Aug. 24th would be the end of the game. I figured that by then we would have figured out how to help the Operator leave and the game would be over, so personally I'm quite pleased.

But I definitely understand how Aug. 24th could be unfulfilling. I expected the pace to pick up a bit more, new wavs daily or something like that.

Well, I'm not going to lie and say that I would like more (a) puzzles and (b) websites... but as far as rewards on a whole go, I think this story and the writing is amazing. I mean, I thought the plot and characters were well expressed BEFORE we got over twenty minutes of interesting, well-scripted and well-acted audio content.

Meta: I stand by my speculation that the payphones were decided upon by the PMs only because we suggested it so much, and it was plausible. If that's true, than this content (or at least -how- we got it) is an afterthought by the PMs. I don't know... I'm just thinking / HOPING that there's more to come. I mean... look at it this way...

If the original list of coordinates was left up rather than -adjusting- the puzzle, the event on August 24th might've been totally different. ...okay I have no idea where I'm going with this. But from someone who strongly suspected nothing would happen on Tuesday, I'm not disappointed. Razz

Take pride in what's been done.

*note* This turned out way longer than I expected Embarassed

As everyone has said lately, the wait has been terrible, but the action has been simply delightful in this little fete. I mean, how else could a group of SO many different people with different interests and lives and backgrounds come together and solve a puzzle that is quite obviously enormous?

But one thing on the idle time: A lot of us have jobs, school, families or all three. I personally appreciate the foresight from the designers in giving us a little breathing time. God knows I've been talking about nothing else since I discovered ILB two weeks ago via GameStop.com, but I still have the time to go about my life somewhat normally and not be completely swamped with info that happens while I'm in class or helping customers at work. I even have time for my boyfriend (though he doesn't hear the end of it, that's okay, I listen to his Geology in return Wink )

The action has not increased in frequency on ILB since the 24th, but the tangibility of it has. For once, we can actually HEAR the fruits of our efforts and know that more is on the way. I don't care if all we get is some interesting background info on the Halo universe (and don't try to tell me that it's not connected at all, we've been over this since the beginning).

I do not expect a special preview. I do not expect cheat codes. I do not expect a signed MasterChief figurine (tho that would rock), and I don't expect to get a free anything, be it Halo or not, out of this.

It's a sci-fi mystery novel that we're INSIDE, solving the puzzles, putting the pieces together. Like watching Scooby Doo, the only thing I want to hear is "And I would have gotten away with it, too..." So smile and be glad that you're a part of something huge and new. And know that we'll at least get a pat on the back, like we have already from Dana and the Sleeping Princess. Don't let yourself think that Melissa'll just leave us hanging.

We were just given a large chunk of information to digest. We need some time to toy with that information. By know we've pretty much got all the factual evidence that we can out of the .wav files, but there is still plenty of room for speculation and possible connections between this material and other information that we may have missed. I think we have a little longer to wait for the next part, either because we have to figure out how to queue the next part or because the schedule has some time built in for us to ponder the audio files. Either way, there will be more information forthcoming at some point. Bungie has never once in it's lifetime as a company produced something I didn't wholly appreciate, but it always, always, took some patience and a lot of effort by a whole community of people to figure out everything.

That being said, I don't think that we will ever know everything. Bungie will no doubt have a satisfactory closing to this particular part of the story, but there will always be room for more interpretation. Take a look at the Marathon Story page for example. Even now, after almost a decade, people are still coming up with ideas, speculations, related information. The volume may have decreased, but these games now 10 years old still have life in them. The saga of the Operator will no doubt be of interest in the search for the Tru7h of the Marathon/Halo universe many years to come.

So you have my impassioned plea, be patient, take heart, and enjoy dabbling in the mystery that is available now, with an open curiosity to what is still to come. If you are looking for things to do, read everything here. Read everything at every level of iteration of the game. Read everyone's speculation, their theories, their interpretations of the facts. Reassemble the bits of information we do have, remind yourselves of some of the older things that have been discovered. You never know, you might just find the clue that leads to something major. You also might not. Exercise your powers of reasoning and thought. We don't know why we must be made to wait, but yet we must wait.

I have to definitely agree that this is for sure an ARG. I'd love to participate and flex my speculation skills but unfortunately I don't have the time nor patience, nor can I contribute anything that hasn't already been said, so I will reitierate. This is an ARG because there are puzzles to solve. With the letters the letters were just sent, that was it. THere was no interaction, there was no puzzle solving (like the SP's message to yellowbrickroad.html) and no phones to pick up. If this just was a Bungie ad and not an ARG then ther would have been no interaction between the characters and ourselves. Especially not on this scale.

I hope your wrong. I came to ILB as a XBOX fan and found myself sucked into this whole new world of ARG's. All the sudden I cant sleep, have 4 pages up and am pressing refresh as fast as I can, Awnsered some payphone in a wafflehouse here locally to activate an axon and found out what it's like to be "trouted". After looking into ARG's some of the problem solving can be pretty technical (coding and such). So if there is one winner it leaves all the noobs like me with no chance in hell.
Either way, its been a blast.

I have a funny feeling the reasoning behind Bungie having a playable version of Halo 2 at all these industry expos but still not putting the game out till november 9th may mean that all this will get mention somehow in the game. Sort of how Jeanine Salla mentioned the cloudmakers in the beast.
