axon cancelled

Dorkmaster wrote:

edit - you can't see that it's the 17:11 axon. It's the first of Hi_Aiden

I just saw that too!

Excellent. So maybe we move on (soon)....???

My theory is this though: (And it's kinda cool cuz this is actually a huge development)

(1) we still need to hunt for live axons.

(2) we still can get 777, cuz that hasn't changed to 776 even though they're saying it was an erroneous axon.

So, we clear these axons, then we still have to do something different after this to clear up 566 more. Will it be GPS or something, I don't know, and I'm not trying to spec on that... just saying:

it tells us that if we weren't to keep hitting these points, they would have left it alone til they updated.

it also tells us that we still are to try for 777.

Cool, and huge, right? Cool

CANCELLED
AXON ERROR : We need to find out what Happened.
Was this Axon ever Activated or has the PM's realized that there is not a Phone at that Location?

I mean, it's not going to kill us to check, but I have a distinct feeling that this was a truly "impossible" axon. Someone behind the curtain prolly checked it out and found it to be incorrect. So this is their way of saying "sorry dudes... this was a futuristic goose chase."

17:11 was the axon our valiant comrades in San Francisco were spending so much time and energy scouting: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=62801#62801

Excellent find. That means that some of the other Axons could be Cancelled as well while time passes. Thus shortening the work load, if we must activate all the Axons before moving on.

What follows is so meta I had to spoiler it... Not really a spoiler, but way meta (think of it like whispering):

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I think we should double our effort to document why we believe such axons to be impossible. Maybe we can help out the PMs in letting them know that it wasn't just some dude in a van down by the river who just picked up the wrong phone at the right time, but that it was truly a well scouted, impossible location for some of these axons that we just can't make happen... Maybe this is the PMs saying "we're not sending people out here... just show us your work and we'll believe you, but you really gotta show us we screwed up, not just say "well, I checked and there's a building, but I didn't want to go inside to see if there was a phone." Just a thought.

I'm hoping for some clue that lets us know if we need to be
chasing after each and every axon. Since they have cancelled this one,
a posting of new coords for that axon would point towards Yes.

Another option I have been trying for (to much criticism) is a completion
of one set of axons. Maybe that whole set will reset. Maybe the progress
bar will change to something new. Maybe the set of boxes will just change
color again.

Whatever might or might not happen, I definitely believe that we need
777/777 somethings to finish this phase or the entire ARG.
Why would it be there if we could skate by with 123/777?

P.S. Dorkmaster took alot of flack for trying to organize everyone to
mobilize to the axons. It was a good call, obviously, even though we
didn't get the hand written invitation that some were waiting for.

I think I'll always call you Viirden, Buddhist.... anyway, thanks for the props... but my point I made above is that the fact that they're correcting these still before a normal "update" day tells me that we do have to hit whatever ones we haven't yet. IMO, it does more than suggest it, it confirms it.

(although the group-of-seven-reset idea is a great one)

But if we didn't have to "light all axons" they would have just waited until update day and change them all (or change them all now instead of changing just one now). They wouldn't stop one, and let us keep stumbling along with other ones... they may be brutal in making us prove their axons are impossible, but they're not cruel. they're just being thorough and saying "we know some of these can still be "lit"... keep trying. Don't worry. We're watching and we'll update if we see you going in circles and you're still trying..."

If we could get the Last one for "escape" HOT then we would have something to work with.

With the cancelled hi_aiden, we could get that group finished with:
45.455094 -122.578925 17:23 map acme Portland Oregon hi_aiden 2/2 Incorrect response given

So, who was it that gave the wrong response? If this is true, then somebody knows where the phone is, when it will ring, and I'm sure knows the correct response now. Lets get back and get that one.

17:11 San Francisco Location, I was there

I am soooo glad to find out that it was an error. We have been trying to get that one to go hot for several days now and we had quite a turn out today.

I scouted the location yesterday, everything in a 1 block radius (these a big blocks) and noted every phone that could except incoming calls and even tested them to see if they were telling the truth or not.

I got to the location over an hour early today to continue scouting and found a couple more phones that would ring inside the lobby of a building across the street.

I met up several other beekeepers (SYFer, Ranger D, Ceantari and her boyfriend Noah, Piece, the two keepers from Berkely and Ammortal) on site and we basically had the whole place covered. SYFer and Ammortal were just checking out the the actual GPS location to see if anything happened at that spot at 17:11 and everyone else was covering every available public phone that would accept calls within a 1 block radius, but alas we all came up short. Nothing at all.

I did notice something a little weird though. This is probably nothing at all and, from what I understand about the use of this term, totally META (I am new to these parts of the internet). About 30 minutes before the phone call was supposed to come in and before I met up with any other keeper I was walking up the street right across from where the GPS coords point to and I saw a guy on his cell phone hanging out the behind his van that was parked in a red zone looking at the GPS location. The van was white and kinda old, had some stickers on the back, nothing special or professional about it. But he was clearly looking at that site and on his phone like he was reporting about the location to someone else. When I began to get close to him he noticed me and turned and looked into his van (side door was open and he was standing with one foot up inside the van. His movements looked like he noticed he was being too obvious or just that I freaked him out. I don't know if he was scoping it out for someone else or not but it just seemed wierd to me. This happened about 16:40ish maybe a couple minutes before that. Anyone know when the Error message went up?

Anyway, I am supremely impressed by the SF teams turn out and how well we did. I am glad to know that we did what we could under the circumstances.

Good job everyone.

17:55 axon

My friend just went to the 17:55 "emergency" location in Seattle with his brother and another friend, and they said there was no pay phone on the block. He even went into buildings (including an Ethiopian Church!), but couldn't find any payphones. The closest ones are two blocks from the location, and his brother is going to go to these phones tomorrow to see if they're the X marking the spot.

trout me if you must, but in a puzzle with wildly changing coordinates, it would seem to me the first absence of a coordinate-change when it would be logical out of game means that it must be the start of something different in game. at least, i think that's a very important distinction to be making in all your spec. Very Happy

I'll also publically [spec] that each group will recieve one, and only one of these, leaving a hex of 'living' axons. Meta-hex-theory leaves so much room for spec it's ridiculous, from honeycomb associations (thanks puzzle forum), through I Ching Qugelmian Cross-Stitching... Twisted Evil ... maybe a little too Evil or Very Mad.

I had my little girl with me, but I looked around and asked a few locals. The only one I found was next to the Lucky Devil tattoo shop, but it doesn't accept incoming calls. It didn't ring when the time came anyways, so I'm really at a loss. I may return tomorrow, who knows.
