Nope, there were a bunch of us signed up to hit those locations on Tuesday, only it looks like none of us made it (for my own part, I couldn't get out of work when I finally realized those times were in the *morning*, not at night). I'm about ten minutes away from both spots, so I'll likely be there as well Saturday.

Fair enough! I'll keep an eye out for you tomorrow. Happy hunting.

I'll say it again: There is an in-game Reason this axon didn't just change to another location. We've had gps locations changing left and right, so unless the location of the phone itself is critical to some puzzle, there's no reason they couldn't have changed the GPS coord to another working phone... it didn't even have to be in the same city, as we've seen axons move across state lines with no problem. If they really just screwed up, I'll probably stop playing the game, as these people obviously have no sense of what the '4th veil" means or how to maintain suspension of disbelief.
I was thinking yesterday that maybe a full set of 7 is never going to be possible, which might lead to another puzzle to find out why. Maybe the 'phone is broken' theory is right, but that would mean that the location of the actual phones cannot change, even though the axon pointers can. Either way, this is different in-game from a coordinate change, which means we need a better in-game reason either way before we write this off as a mistake.

Looks like the new coords are not to make up for anything, but brought to us courtesy of the Sleeping Princess.

Well I was one of the people who sent emails to SP asking about coordinates that we couldn't get to go Hot. Still haven't received a response, but the PM's must have checked around and realized their mistake. And decided to throw us another bone to chew on for awhile. It is kind of silly that they would make these mistakes, but I'm not gonna be mad at them or quit because of it. They are human, so they are bound to make mistakes. They can't keep control over phone companies, or crappy public telephones not working.
Of course the coords have not been right on for quite a few of them. The one I went to, 7:35 in Austin, MN had the coord on the SE corner of an intersection and the payphone was on the NW corner.

And another thing about the payphones. The one I went to said "Outgoing Calls Only." And it did ring and the Axon went Hot because I answered Operator correctly and listened to the whole message. So don't give up on a phone because it says it won't accept incoming calls. Microsoft is a huge corporation with a lot of money and influence. It doesn't take much of either to get a phone company to open up telephones for something like this.

If anyone in Seattle wants to meet up a half-hour early tomorrow at the 9:23 and 10:38 locations, I'd be willing to scout thoroughly for more phones and see if we can get those axons. I've been doing this on my own repeatedly for the last few days (!) and one person at these locations (as well as 11:41 and 17:55) just aren't going to cut it! There are NUMEROUS payphones at most of them. I'm just a short little girl who's going to PAX and won't be able to be there Saturday or Sunday, so if anyone can be there, PLEASE help me out. Sad

Washington DC Update
INCyr, were you able to check the 10:35 axon today? I went myself, and there's no phone directly on the corner specified on the map I have. I had some time to scout before the call, and these are the phones I found in the area (blue dots):

I've marked out in orange the areas of construction... any phone there is inaccessible or gone. The phone at 4th and Independance does not work, there is no dial tone when the receiver is picked up. There is no number posted, so I could not test to see if it rings. The phones at 4th and C are both functional (dial tone, ring when called), and they did not ring at the appointed time today.

Perhaps there is a phone inside the building at 3rd and Independance? I didn't have to time to check the corner of 2nd and Independance for phones.

So strange too... When you pass over the recipes on the left, none of them link to http://www.ilovebees.com/recipe3.html , which is 'Honey-Glazed Lemon Chicken'... unusual. There's only four locations, each requiring one AXON HOT.

Report from NYC 11:08 Axon

Hello All,

Been lurking for awhile, but thought I might post about my recent trip to the NYC 11:08 Axon today.

According to the Mapquest coordinates, the location should be the entrance to Fordham University, at 113 West 60th Street.

But, I was thinking. Typically large buildings in Manhattan will only have one street address, even though the building may take up a entire block. (As is the case here). So, if there was a payphone around the outside of the Fordham Campus, the phone directory would list the address above, and inputing the address into a GPS lookup would return the Fordham University entrance rather than the actual location of the payphone.

So, I my lunchbreak I wandered up to the area. Indeed, I found no payphones on the outside of the building, but I did find two payphones at the SW corner of 62nd and Columbus (9th Ave.) One payphone had the number scratched out (I <3 NY!) and the other did not ring when I called it.

I had arrived at 2:00 PM EDT (11:00 PDT) so I decided to wait for a bit. At about 2:05, a Verizon truck pulls up, and a tech person strolls out and proceeds to work on the payphone I've just tried to call. I try to look unconcerned as he starts to unhook the reciever and work on the phone. I figure I might wait a little longer, as he might finish just before 2:08 PM. But, just before that time a SECOND Verizon truck pulls up, and another tech comes to work on the phone.

At this point I consider it a lost cause, and head back to work.

So, here are my theories as to what happened:

1) Arrival of the Verizon trucks was total coincidence, and the phone was at a different location inside the campus.
2) The phone was indeed the correct one, and either a) Verizon had gotten a complaint about the phone not picking up, or b) Verizon had tracked multiple calls to the same number at the same time, and had gotten suspicious.

I might swing by after work to see if the phone is now fixed, and if so I'll try again on Saturday.

But, just to throw this out, has anyone at the 12:20 axon taken a walk around the building to see if there were any phones on the outside? The GPS coordinates would be off, but I have a feeling the coordinates were generated from addresses, rather than someone actually standing at the spot and checking a GPS reciever.

Good luck on the 4 new SP axons!

OK, the 11:53 Boise, ID (eyes) is a dud. I have tried for 4 consecutive days now, had phone coverage on every single phone within a .25 mile radius in that time frame (and 3 days coverage on the most likely phone) and nothing. Hopefully it will get cancelled soon, because (unless something different happens), I don't plan on heading back.

On the 24th I went to the 41.933417 -87.645220 14:08 Chicago four goats and meet grout and kyrstn there and the phone didn't not ring, well I went back on the 26th with some friends, 007 and Whigsplittah, to look for more phones but didn't find any. This location is at a Borders, someone told me that there was a 3rd floor there accessable only from an elevator. Don't have any free time to check it out for a couple of days, but I will try again soon.

I posted my checks of that area to the other board. Right now, according to the payphone sites I've checked there, are the following payphones close by:

*773-348-9597..Barnes & Noble................659 W Diversey Parkway
*773-404-6879..Borders Book Store............2817 N Clark St
773-404-6903...Borders Book Store............2817 N Clark St
773-348-6103...Century Shopping Centre.......2828 N Clark St...near Bally Fitness
773-348-6711...Century Shopping Centre.......2828 N Clark St...near Bally Fitness
773-549-6516...Century Shopping Centre.......2828 N Clark St...movie theater lobby
773-549-6498...Century Shopping Centre.......2828 N Clark St...movie theater lobby
*773-525-5466..Coconuts......................N Broadway & Diversey Pkwy...outside

Now, the ones with asterisks I have *confirmed* don't receive calls. I have also checked that the one at the Borders without an asterisk also does not receive calls, but when you call it you hear a ring. I stood next to that phone with my cell phone, called it, and while it was ringing I picked up the pay phone. I got nothing but a dial tone.

The coords for this site have not changed, yet we had a point across the street at the Century Mall. I have checked at the Century locations twice now, once downstairs and once upstairs to see if they'd call either of those phone banks instead. No luck. Since the GPS coords for the 12:08 time were for the Century, I'd also hope that if they *were* going to call that phone they'd change the coords on the links page to the already established coords.

Right now, I consider this location a bust. They can keep calling that Border's number, the phone will ring on their end, but there's NO way to answer a call on that phone.

Phone Numbers used to date?

(fyi, did a search on "track phone numbers" and came up with nothing)

I was wondering if anyone is keeping track of the phone numbers that have been verified to be used by Melissa?

The reason I ask, is that perhaps the numbers were chosen for a reason, or in some kind of pattern....I believe that payphones for a particular company are allocated in a block. I recall that all of the Berkeley phones I saw were SBC, but I didn't bother to see what the actual numbers were for the phones that were used.

Perhaps Melissa has some method for doing a reverse lookup for a phone number that spits out the coordinates mentioned previously...

If we could divine a pattern to the numbers:
1- we might be able to more easily find the other numbers being used in an area..or in other areas...
2- there is a very unlikely chance that they mean something in and of themselves...though I doubt it.

What I would hate to do though, is post a bunch of phone numbers on here. I think the guy who did the "Is Bob there?" calls was hoaxing and I think a lot of time could be wasted by more of that sort of thing. If anyone wrote down the number of the phones that were actually used, please PM me with them, and I will compile them and send the group back out. obviously, I will only send them to regular posters in this group.

Let me know what you think...

Thanks, nice to know all the work was appreciated by somebody. Consider the ball tossed Melissa, hope you're a good catch.
