[Question] How to find embedded/hidden text

Hello all, I am one of the many people who followed the link from penny-arcade.com Like many people I am completely new to the whole ARG thing, but (also like many people) am fascinated by the idea. I have read the posting guidelines for this forum and searched for the answers to the questions I am about to ask many times (though due to the large number of relevan posts have not had any luck still) I also understand that we are trying to keep the posts relevant and to a minimum. That is why I am so nervous posting. I have read a few of the texts found at ilovebees, but I am still unable to find a large amount of that text at the site. I have opened the images listed http://qube.netninja.com/wiki/index.php?title=Corrupted_Image_Text in note pad and found some of the text listed on the wiki, but no all of it. I have examined the source and copy/pasted the text from the sites. I am still completely unable to understand how all of this text was found. I am trying very hard to learn more about how to find information like this by myself, and am hoping to be a part of the ARG community. I have tryed my hardest to comply with your rules, and hope that this questions isn't unappropriate. If anyone could please explain to me how all of the text/information was found so far I would be very greatful.

Thanks

And a large apology if this post is deemed unappropriate in any way.

You can find the "corrupted image text" by opening up a corrupted image as a text file in Notepad or some similar program. You will see little snippets of readable English text amid the various nonsense symbols that make up a picture file. These bits of text are what make the image appear corrupted when viewed normally.

The reason you don't always see the text is because the web pages are created dynamically -- that is, each time you refresh the page a new page is generated. Not all of the images are always corrupted. When you see a corrupted image, it should always have text hidden in it somewhere.

Now, the text in the corrupted images has changed since the beginning of the game, so if you're looking for earlier text snippets you'll have to find the "quarantine" pages, which are the earlier versions. I'll leave it to you to find them, but let me know if you get stuck. Mr. Green

Thank you so much for your reply! So, between the fact that the site loads differently (different corrupted images each time) and the fact that some of the text isn't there anymore I wasn't able to find the majority of the text. That makes sense. So, was the other earlier text found during the first 2 phases? And, was all of it found in images? Thanks, again. I will search for the quarantined files and report back if I get stuck again.

(TROUT?) NEW Text in the updated corrupted image????

hi all, ive been followin the ilovebees site, for a few weeks so far, trying to get caught up and all. this is also my first post, and im sorry if someone already posted it. Please dont flame me! Sad Crying or Very sad .....anyway. if you go to the 404 Error page, and save the corrupted picture to your HD, than open it in Notepad, you should find this:
Question:

Are you the Widow?

Quote, Amazing Spider-Man always find themselves in predicaments like

this.

The Widow rather... nasty
The Widow être simple

Please attempt something for me, You can call me a rational Being

Thank you.

This of course is embedded into alot of other characters and symbols, so it wont look this neat if you look at it yourself.
Any speculations?

Hi Syke,

Afraid that's already been found, as it was put there in a previous phase. Good thinking though! Search the forums or wiki for Killer.jpg text for some more information on what we found.

WebPillar, great to see you diving right in! Almost all of the Corrupted Image Text was found in the first two phases only. There is also text embedded in the HTML itself which makes up some of the Monologues and Computer Code. When you find the quarantined files it should make a bit more sense Smile

Yup, I can confirm the troutiness of this. If you do happen to find anything that isn't already listed here at the excellent NetNinja Wiki, let us know.

I don't do flames Smile However, if you had searched on the Killer.jpg text or looked in the Wiki (link now posted above), you could have saved yourself some time and bother as you would have noticed that the text had already been found. It seems updates at the moment are solely new axons, and new Sleeping Princess pages. Still, there will soon be more, I warrant!
