[PUZZLE][SPEC]Finishing a set of Axons

There are ofcourse the obvious reasons for the grouping of the axons.

1. Coverage to guarranty that we saw immediate results from our efforts.
2. No message left behind.

I'm thinking that there might be another layer that we are missing to this.
In essence the progress/text bar at http://ilovebees.com/links.html
monitored our progress of unlocking the .wav files. It first reported 50%
and then 100% completion of the task although the first thing we thought at
6:00 a.m. PDT was that it was a text bar.

I believe that the grouping and text bar have an additional purpose.
The closest we have to a complete set of axons is what 5/7? Well I propose
that when we have 7/7 that text bar will become active. Whether it will
contain or allow us to input text (or what it would mean) I can't say, but
I believe we should try it.

The most complete sets we have are "Beer","Escape", and "Hi_Aiden".
Each of these have only two remaining axons and unfortunately the
closest to me is about six hours away, one way.

Is anyone planning on going to these locations? If not please consider it.

Beer (3:03 PDT) 39.346129 -091.204489 Bowling Green, Missouri
Beer (3:11 PDT) 42.714250 -089.000977 Janesville, Wisconsin
Escape (3:19 PDT) 35.305783 -080.734667 Charlotte, North Carolina
Escape (3:35 PDT) 43.060500 -088.022706 Wauwatosa, Wisconsin
Hi_Aiden (5:11 PDT) 37.775000, -122.418330 San Francisco, California
Hi_Aiden (5:23 PDT) 45.455094 -122.578925 Portland, Oregon

I've checked the long/lat against ILB but those coords could change.

Also, has anyone been to these particular sites? What happened?
Some sites had too much sound interference. Some said "melissa" instead
of "operator". Could these sites have been activated?

I went to the Wauwatosa, WI site and our group split to cover two payphones within the same city block. However, neither phone accepted incoming calls.

As far as anything more with axons needing to be activated, I would say wait until we have all the .wavs, and then reanalyze what needs to be done. However, if anyone wants to try the Wauwatosa coordinate again, to test the "disabled ringer" theory, go for it.

Let's look at the evidence.

The progress bar fills up halfway with 1 and full up with 2. It's a DIV, not a text box, in the source.

Melissa says:
Quote:
Successful transmission threshold: 2 recipients.

At 2 successful pick-ups, the wav file is activated.

I think we'll only know for sure what happens once all files are activated -- or one file has all 7 axons complete -- but I think it's going to be hard to get every last axon hot, and I'd expect good PMs to be consistent (with both the Melissa quote and the design of the progress bar) and not have a 'hidden' transmission threshold. (We may, however, get goodies if we do all seven..?)

At any rate, let's concentrate on the twos for now, hm?

Why?

These sites are so spread out that finishing one set hardly pulls
man power away from getting the coveted "two".
Finishing one and seeing what (if anything) happens in more likely
possible now while there is GPS momentum.

Let's just stick with what we have, eh?
It's the same argument that GPS naysayers had prior to the 24th.

"We don't have enough data"

They were unwilling to even organize because they didn't get a hand
written invitation from "Mellissa".
Must every idea be the most popular one before it's atleast a
valid one?[/i]

I plan on going to the two remaining locations in Charlotte, NC if the other beekeepers don't go first. I have to be at work during the times listed, so I will have to do them this weekend. Both are relativley near my home. I will scout both locations for phones tomorrow.

Edit - revise

Because it makes actual in-game sense, if you read my post?

I'm not saying don't concentrate on finishing sets, just that twos seem rather more important in the short-term. *shrug* Obviously I can't personally go and visit any of the sites, so the best I can do is take a step back and look at everything from a distance -- it helps to pull things together, rather than take things on an isolated basis and speculate from there.

sherpa,

The short term will be over today, maybe tommorrow at the latest.

As far as in game/out of game goes, is there not a list of 200+
coords posted on ILB? Did I miss the Update where Mellissa told us that
she would be happy with 1/3 of the Axons Going Hot?

It's actually totally out of game to stop after we have unlocked the minimum
requirement to receive a clue.

Thanks marq. Hope you make it. It's the funkiest experience.
I went to a small town, far from my home, and infiltrated the local library.
Kept one eye on the clock and another on the phone.
I was alone and kept getting the urge to giggle out loud cuz' I knew
something strange was about to happen and no one else was in on it.

Oh, anyone else wonder what might be happening at these payphones
that are ringing that we haven't found yet? Innocent bystander answers.
Man I would love to get that on film.

Oh, for goodness sake, please read and understand what I'm saying, rather than jumping to conclusions! I've never said you should stop going to locations -- nor said anything is out of game, per se. Since when does simply pointing out game evidence warrant this sort of reaction?

When the axons were first posted weeks ago - I don't suppose you were around then - there were a lot of hopes being raised on certain possibilities. 99% of these turned out not to be the case, as I'm sure you can imagine. It helps not to concentrate on hopes, but on reality. This isn't Monopoly.

Still, nobody likes a waiting game. If something new does happen when a set of seven is completed, then jolly good. All I'm saying is to look at what we have so far and keep focused on the various clues around 'two' (plus of course the "damage assessment" that we have yet to do) rather than sitting tapping one's fingers waiting to collect a whole set, something which -- since phones at some locations are simply not ringing -- might not ever happen.

As a matter of fact Melissa never told us to go to ANY locations. It can just as easily be said that these are rendezvous locations. If there is a fire in your building does the fire department refuse to put out the fire until at least one person is standing in every safe point?
She finds 210 two-way data paths. She puts out feelers to all the endpoints and sees how many get a bite. After the past two days she now has a list of 100+ live endpoints that she knows she can call and someone will answer. Why does she NEED 210? Isn't it better to need 60 (30x2) and get 100 then to need 210 and get 100?

There's been lots of spec on this, but at least we know this - phones that have "gone hot" have not rung again.

So don't worry about standing by the phone for the next month. At least not for now. Smile

but theres a possibility that they will want to talk on those hot phones again, now knowing that they work and people found them... i guess we will just have to watch.

Bowling Green is covered, just a question of when.

I'll try to hit Bowling Green next Friday (September 3rd) if no one else has by that point.
