I haven't personally, but others have said once it goes hot, it doesn't ring the next day.

Sorry, but what do you mean?

[EDIT]
Ah wait. . you mean when the background graphics reverse themselves? Sorry, it's just that on my monitor it shows brown, so I got a little confused.
[/EDIT]

If you go to the Fun Stuff page on ILB, the page goes green every once in a while and stays that way for a minute or two. There seems to be a high correlation between the calls and the green background on the page. It also happens on recipe3.html when that is being called. It does take about 30 seconds after going back to white that the .wav is posted though.

Edit-Maybe it is a camo/peasoup green and that's why it looks brown.

no, it "goes green" when the server sends you a "corrupted" background gif, rather than the original. Confused

Yes, it does in fact "go green" when the server sends you a "corrupted" background gif. On most pages this happens randomly, but on the links page and the recepie3 page, this seems to only happen when the Operator is transmitting to an axon.

Did anyone try for troy or hello?

OK, can anyone confirm or deny whether there was even anyone trying for "troy" or "hello"?

Aliendial reports from DC that a group located the correct 12:16/hello axon phone and answered it, but the person gave the right response and it still dumped them out as a no-go, kind of like my call this morning on the original set. They are going to retry tomorrow.

Troy axon

Okay, report from 'troy' axon:

I got there about 12pm and walked around for a little while trying to locate phones. I remember reading a post about the Wax Museum (searching now, I found yanka's post; that was the one), so I hung out at the Starbucks for a while. Around 12:45, met up with two other beekeepers (Hey HitsHerMark!) and we all stuck at the Wax Museum waiting for the call.

At about 1:11 or so, we all jumped out of our socks because the phone rang. HitsHerMark jumped up to answer it, but she said it sounded like a wrong number (hopefully she can confirm this). She hung up and we waited until 1:19, and when nothing happened we all started to fidget. I ran to the restaurant next door (opposite direction from the McD's) and stood by the payphone there for a few minutes, but that one never rang either.

I'm pretty clueless as to what happened. Can anyone who was at the Wax Museum phone on Friday CONFIRM that was the right phone? Cause otherwise we're gonna need more people to cover phones. There were four of us there, but like I said above, we all stuck at the Wax Museum.

Embarassed

Hi!

Yeah, it was somebody looking for "Hailey".

After we left Movieland, I double checked some other phones and found one other likely place that must have been missed yesterday.

If anybody is planning on going to Troy on Sunday please go to:

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6085

Lets try to get our ducks a little more in a row for Sunday.

One irked alien reporting in:

1. 8:19 PDT As noted earlier, morning Dale City VA failed - next will stake out the Bob Evans at Smokehouse and Gideon. If anybody else in Woodbridge/Prince William County could come, we could cover the last phone and be done with this so-called axon.

Bob Evans: 0-9974 (phone works) [numbers truncated because Melissa should already know the area code and exchange of these phones; the missing digits are all the same.]

Hobby Store: 4-9355 (may need cash to actually receive call - phone rings, but line dead when you pick up) Also if this IS the phone we should be VERY irked. At five digit accuracy this is unforgiveably far from the coordinates. At least a hundred yards. I played with the coordinates today. It is not hard at all to move the coordinates MUCH closer to any of the places targeted here. Bad Melissa.

2. 12:19 PDT "hello" We got the phone, young Oliver answered it correctly, but got the "You don't know me..." dump. (He handled the one at Washington Harbor correctly on Wednesday, so I do not think it's his fault.) No particular background noise either. Oliver specced that he spoke too quickly, before they were quite ready to receive or before the voice recognition software was ready, so they didn't get the whole word. He committed to return tomorrow and try again. (Chappy joined us again here, and then he and Oliver went off to check the last two remotely possible phones for the 7th & Pennsylvania Ave.. location (13:02? Something like that).

3. 13:50 PDT back at Potomac Mills. Where the official address for the GIANT mall here maps to the very location we have as our coordinates. And every store and phone in the mall has that address. So 60 or so phones are possible. (IvanLeopold and a buddy checked this out Thursday, but after reviewing our correspondence I could not tell what phone they actually covered at 13:50, so I started from scratch).

The mall address connection lets us eliminate the restaurants that are close to the coordinate (Jerry's Subs and a Chili's) because their addresses are on the next street.

Assuming the phone will be close to the coordinate (because if it isn't we will never find it; I will not spend weeks trying every phone in the place), we have three or four choices:

a. Inside the exterior door of Nordstrom Rack - no call at 13:50

b. Outside next mall entrance: 0-9953 - does not ring, but is receiving calls (Takes a few seconds to recover after you hang it up. Chancy to try answering it blindly since you'll create a fairly long window where the phone will be busy.) Not my next choice.

c. Outside next mall entrance/Ruby Tuesday's: 4-9353 This is where I will be tomorrow.

d. Last choice, and I may never try it: inside that second mall entrance near G Street Fabrics: 0-9988

Once again: Woodbridge? Dale City? Anybody?

4. 14:50 PDT Manassas: I am astonished I made it here from Dale City, but I did with 3 minutes to spare. Mike's Diner across from Prince William Hospital. Two pay phones. No dice. No strange calls earlier this week.

One possibility - 7-11 across the street, but I am not going back until the coordinates are fixed. As noted above, at 5-6 digits to the right of the decimal, the coordinates are within 10-20 feet of the spot we supposedly should be, and this one is right in the diner parking lot. I think Melissa is jerking our chain with outliers like this.

Anyone IN Manassas, for whom this would be less of a pain, who could take on monitoring this?

Disappointed in Alexandria. Mad

I thought someone GOT the first Troy call but then bungled or got dumped? Is there still a mystery about which phone?

Yeah, probably wrong thread. Too tired to fix. BTW, anyone ever take credit for San Antonio?

That was the story. I was not at the Movieland phones yesterday (I was at the Mickey D's up the road), but I was there today. And there was no call. . . It says it takes incomming calls, and somebody did call in at around 1:11 looking for "Hailey". So we know that you can call that spot.

So until I can get conformation from somebody who was actually there, the general plan is to get as many people as possible to meet early at Po Folks and have all three phones on that block that take incomming calls and ring covered.

possible connection...

new to posting on this forum, but i've done my searching and i'm pretty sure that this hasn't been said.

the marine in the two currently open wav files seems to stress the word receipt a little much.

aldaraad has reported that two previously thought dead axons (from the first list) were not payphones, but the business phones of two mcdonalds. this was backed up by grimcat.

aldaraad has also found that some mcdonalds reciepts say "McBee" at the top (at least one he got).

coincidence?

EDIT: actually this is probably irrelevent, given that a google search of mcbee provides that mcbee is a small business supply company, which could quite likely supply blank receipt paper to, say, franchises such as mcdonalds. still weird about the dead axons though.

By my clock, it's 3:12PM in DC and the axon is green and active!

[Edit]OK, it went out again from 3:14-current (3:16).

[Edit 2] 3:19 and it's green again!

Are you talking about the green background that matches the navigation on the left, or are you talking about the background image being greenish-gold, highlighting the white bees?

For me, those boxes are always pale green until the axons are connected, and the background color is purely random.
