Well, that was fun. The coordinates, like my last Recipe3 adventure, were dead-on. They were right next to a sign declaring "Village of Roslyn". Roslyn, as it turns out, is absolutely gorgeous. If you know the area, it was on Old Northern Blvd across from George Washington Manor and the old Grist Mill. Anyway, there were 2 phones this time instead of one. They both accepted calls, but only one of them actually rang. One minute before the appointed time (13:13 PDT, 4:13PM local), a cop car pulled up; I nearly panicked. I did my best to look as unsuspicious as I could, chatting on my cell phone with a friend. The cop entered a tiny little shack right next to the phone bank, and I'm standing there praying she doesn't pay any attention to me. Then the minute hit, and the phone rang, putting to rest my fears about the non-ringing phone. "Stormy Weather" was the answer, no live call of course, and the cop departed without ever paying any mind. "I want to WIN THIS WAR!"

No other beekeepers showed up; not surprising on a Sunday I guess. Well, this Tuesday, I might take off work to hit Long Island up properly. Here's hoping I get to be Chief Science Officer XStryker, or maybe Civilian Contractor XStryker. Wink

We have a winner:
The question should be "What's my favorite game?" and the answer is "Hide and Seek".

God I do hope I'm right!

Actually, I'm pretty sure the Recipe 3 axons ask the most current question, that being Q: What must we reveal? A: The Truth.

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me... thanks!

Actually, I'm pretty sure they ask the question of the relevant week they first went up. But regardless, the list of possible questions and answers is quite short. Know them all. Get those axons! Go Philly!!!!

Does anyone know why this one hasn't been enhottenated before? There were several groups of beekeepers I ran into with previous axon hunts. Where'd they all go?

I, too, am at work and there's no way I can make the 2:11 call-time before this weekend, but the axon site is literally around the corner from where I live.

*sigh* Why can't they have these things happen in the *evening*, eh?

peccable - no hint. no noise from Philly at all, despite multiple announcements of the new PHILLY AXON. No reports of "I tried and can't find it" so I'm afraid this may involve a little research unless there is just a completely obvious phone right at the corner.

Try - any outside phone right there. If that fails, try phones inside the address indicated by the coordinates. Check the two payphone directory sites for likely phones at the location. Take notes in case you have to report broken phones to the phone company or removed/changed phones to the payphone directory site. Good luck!!!!

Well, here's your official "I tried and can't find it" message. Smile

Any help here (via the 'net - research I missed, etc) would be *greatly* appreciated. PM me anything you can find.

I looked up the coordinates (39.949370 -075.163670) in MapQuest. They're between Broad and Juniper on Walnut, north side of the street, directly across from the alley on the south side.

That position places it smack dab inside the Wachovia building that's there. There's absolutely nothing outside in that position (several public phones on the *south* side of the street to the east and west) and the star indicates that it's a little north of the sidewalk (no GPS here, sorry), which definitely indicates to me that it's *inside* the building.

I went there right after work last night (I get into the city by 6) and the building was closed. I have no idea if it'll be open to the public on weekends, which is the only time I can get there.

From where I was standing, I could see a "public" looking area on the second floor with a window looking down onto Walnut (most of the rest of the building looks like private offices) I'm willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that there's a public phone there. The question is, can I get to it?

I'll try going on Saturday, if I can. If not Saturday, then definitely Sunday. As I said, though, I'm not certain I'm going to be able to physically *get* to the phone on a weekend.

There was a ton of people in Center City Philly at the beginning of all this -- a lot of students who could go to public phones at all times of the day. What happened to all ya'll?

[UPDATE]

Well, I think I've made some progress. I wandered around the building for a while before attempting to actually go inside (it looked closed), checking the phone to the south of the point (doesn't work, and it's on the wrong side of the street), and checked the subway tunnels underneath (since the coordinates don't indicate elevation). No luck.

So I spoke to the security guard at the Broad Street entrance and explained to him what I was trying to do. After some confused looks, he told me that there *are* a set of public phones precisely where the axon marks them but that I wouldn't be able to enter the building today, since they were resetting and testing the security system and no one was allowed in.

I asked him if I could try tomorrow and he said yes, and that he'd be working the same time tomorrow, so just to enter there.

He asked some questions about the ARG and then asked how long this phone might have been ringing. I told him and he said that some people had noticed the phone ringing, but they hadn't know what it was...

With luck, I'll be able to get odd_duck tomorrow at 2:11 PM EST.

How funny cuz I'm also gonna be trying for this tomorrow as well since I'm going to be in Philly for a rugby tournament. Be nice to actually meet up with some one at an axon since all the others I've done have been by myself.

I've tried looking up the geocode address for the coordinates, but haven't found any exact matches yet. I did map out the geocode coordinates for addresses in that area to help to show where in theory it should be (for future reference in case Wachovia turns out to be a bust).

odd_duck: 39.949370 -75.163670
From Geocode:
123 s broad: 39.949902 -75.163935 (Wachovia Address from Yahoo)
190 s broad: 39.949347 -75.164491 (which would be just north & west of our point)
191 s broad: 39.949292 -75.164075 (just south & west)
1360 walnut: 39.949044 -75.163693 (just south & west)
1361 walnut: 39.949264 -75.163662 (just south & east)

Hopefully I'll be in the area about 2:00 (mapquest says its only 4+ miles from the rugby fields). Just look for the girl with a gps device around her neck and a bunch of maps from mapquest in her hand muttering to herself.
