Could the giant mirror be the recording medium that that holds the snippits of future memory the queen is transmitting?

Only thing I can think of would be something like a process tracker or packet sniffer. There is no implication that it does anything but reflect events going on yet. A packet sniffer would tell the Queen everything coming into or going out of the system, same with code like Windows task manager, which tracks running processes. Both would immediately let the Queen 'see' anything that showed up, reflected in a 'mirror'. Though the packet sniffer idea seems more likely. A task manager could 'kill' any process, but a packet sniffer just listens to traffic and reports its content. Seeing packet data from a known threat would send the Queen hunting after the source, but if that source is buried deep down in the ILB server, while the Queen is moving around between vulnerable servers on the internet, like a virus, then finding SP, who hides well could be a problem. The Queen would literally stumble through the traceback, trying to find the path back to SP, but SP could throw her off easy, altering routing information, etc. to hide where actually she went. it makes more sense than them all still sitting one one machine and trying to play tag on there.

[snip]

That would make lots of sense if Melissa had (as I suspect) moved to a different server. She knows ILB contained only her, the Flea and the SP, so if she goes elsewhere with the flea then any traffic that orginated on ILB would have to be the Princess Smile

It seemed to me that it was actually Melissa writing, though I can't discount your point 5 (give as you receive Wink).

The latest 404 page from the Sleeping Princess eliminates my style-related qualm, and reconvinces me that the Princess wrote the original Widow's Journey story. The Perdita story that she is writing even as we speak has some of the same wonderful imagery that the Widow's Journey had -- "firelight-on-steel" indeed!

This also reinforces my belief that the Princess doesn't have to talk like an adolescent if she doesn't want to.

Let's not forget that Princess chronicled SPDR's death as well, in a nearly identical, though simpler, manner than Widow's story.

If anything, I'd say the mirror is just a metaphor for Durga/Melissa trying to realize precisely what is going on ... and perhaps Princess is the reflection (now removed) Maybe if Princess could get to that mirror and look in it we'd stop getting such confusing text....

Jersey does say it sounds like Durga is trying "jump" at her reflection, which sounds a bit like Queen's chase of Princess recently.
