lol.. I just called the guy in the whois info.. Tony.. he says it's not related.. sounded like a jerk too. but oh well.

Would you mind calling him again, telling him that he's got a PHP error on his sign-up page.. Get a little chat going, and see, what you can squeeze out of him.
EDIT: Tell him about the trojans too.

It's just you. Wink The hungersite has been around for a long time and is a real charity.

Yeah, hungersite has been floating around the internet for _years_ and oddcast has been around for a little while too. It's incredibly expensive though. However, it would be sweet if SP "knows how to use links" now, we sent it to her, and [meta]microsoft dropped the cash to make her an avatar[/meta]. I can just imagine that popping up on the 404 Wink

Nice spec, though. And props to the people who actually called that Tony guy. Especially ztinky, from europe. That's pretty awesome.

I tried calling but the number from the site wont work.

1-866-373-2837?

OK, nevermind it worked this time. Man that recording is strange. No greeting, intro or anything......

ok so I shelled out some hard earned cash and did the 2.99 per minute thing to find out what the heck it was for.......
Got put on hold for a long time listening to loud opera music, said I was waiting for a represenitive. Still no clue as what to expect when someone does awnser the phone. (I'm typing this as I'm on hold)
Wish my opera knowledge was better.........
Ok been on hold for 10 minutes now, hanging up.
Not once did they give out an organization name, or indicate at all what I was holding for.
said I would only be charged once connected. [META] [SPEC] if it is in game maybe it was a way of collecting personal info on players for future contact?

when i saw the G4TechTV coverage of the LA axon payphones, i noticed that all the payphones they showed had a sticker for drdater.com
think about it for a second. you have a business in LA, on the internet. whats a good way to get the word out? put stickers on phones that'll be watched and visted by tons of LA halo fans within mere hours. from a small enterprises view, thats like MS just handing out free advertising.

It could just be my skeptic side though, I'd personally like another site besides ILB to look over. (I won't be able to touch a bottle of honey without pausing after this Smile )

People do that around here too - slap stickers on pay phones and toll booths and so forth because they know a lot of people will see them. Sounds pretty OOGy to me.

I think you are right Black Lotus. That was my first thought as well, but the site was just too odd to not at least inquire about. It definitely looks OOG to me now as well. I hope noone wasted any money on that phone number, or had any issues with the Trojan that was mentioned. If i knew about that, i wouldnt have posted it. Is there a way to delete this thread? I don't want anyone else to visit that site and get screwed by them. And i sure as heck don't want to help advertise for them...

I've added the following to the Falsities section of the Wiki:

Quote:
Some of the axon pay phones -- including, notably, those shown on the G4TechTV coverage of the phones in Santa Monica -- had stickers on them for this web site. The site owner has confirmed that there is no connection to ILB. In addition, the site tries to download trojan viruses, and if you call the telephone number listed under "Contact Me" you will be left on hold and charged $2.99 per minute. Stay away!

Hopefully that will do it. Locky! , please?

I'd hate to perpetuate the free advertising for this damn site and it's damn trojans, but is it possible that maybe it is a "real" site, but maybe SP or Melissa somehow took up an account with it? I dunno, probably no. Eh, nevermind, forget I said anything.

Thanks Shad0. So what do we need to do to lock this thread or (preferably) delete it?

DrDater.com

I visited the site before and had problems like everyone else. I decided to give it another shot and register now. From what I can see they fixed their problems and got many new users. I was surprised how much better it has gotten and the progress they have made. I really suggest that you guys should give it another shot and register!

No offense intended -- especially seeing as this was your first post -- but this does sound almost exactly like what someone would say if he/she wanted to persuade people to visit the site, regardless of whether it still attempted to download trojan viruses or do any other unpleasant things. Besides, the site owner previously confirmed that it is not in-game, so I don't know why anyone here would have any reason whatsoever to "give it another shot." My $0.02: thanks, but no thanks. (Of course, that's just me.)
