[Question] Visiting Axons: Hot/Not-Hot: Keep going?

I don't see a thread for just this topic, though I've seen these 2 questions asked in several different threads and never really answered. I think they are important questions to be answered, so I'm going to give it its own thread, where everybody can see it and agree in one place where there isn't a bunch of other stuff about other subjects to wade through in the same thread, and hope I don't get slapped with a fish. Smile

1. (Rather trouty, I admit.)
Q. If an Axon isn't hot, but the file for its group has been unlocked, should we keep trying to unlock it?
A. The general consenses on this (when there is one), is yes. Going by the progress bar at the top ot the links page we probably need to make all the Axons go hot.

2. (Not really trouty at all)
Q. Should we continue to visit Axons that are hot?
A. ???

I'll be happy to go back to 11:23 PDT, but won't be able to do it until Friday. Anybody else willing to try this?

Anaheim didnt go hot either, but that was a no ring. Perhaps the not hot ccordinates may change into ones that work. While the progress bar is that 2 out of 7 releases the memory, the upper large bar is a much larger number, and may require more. A small thing on it, Jersey has *4* axons hot and this is after the release, so it looks like it wants all 7 axons to go hot.

will be there today then for Anahiem unless the ccor gets the update or they figure out what is going on. Will email Melissa about it, see what is going on.

might join you to the Block one sometime when anaheim goes hot...

For this question, I think we should try... if we can activate a AXON that's already been hit, then it may be possible to get 777 hits. And it's not like we need to land exactly on 777, if you look there are 3 axons hot for dizzy.wav and the bar only lists 2/2. Later on, I may try to hit up the one at 15:23 for message saved, but that's only if I get enough free time.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I couldn't hit my axon again until Saturday, even possibly Sunday... so I'd be quite interested in seeing if an already hot axon (1) keeps going with the same info, or (2) keeps going, but with different, new and cool info, since the axon has been an "established" point of contact.

And like Kaziel says, it's the only way we'd EVER get 777 hit. Unless (dum dum DUMMMMMM) that after we unlock these 210 axons, we get 567 more... (either in two groups or one massive one...) But that's just about enough to make me faint thinking about... so I'll just toss that up there...
*DM tosses "that" "up there"*
and go on my merry way, waiting to see a hot axon hit twice...

Cool, I'll see you at the Anaheim location tonight.

It's a little trouty. (No trout emoticon for you, though, since there was no discussion.)

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=60378#60378

But, since no one wanted to talk about it there when it was posted yesterday, I'll quote myself:

Ok, so now we have two axon-related questions given this text on about.html:
Melissa(?) wrote:

1) How are we going to get the missed axons covered, and
2) Is there any point showing up tomorrow at axons which already went hot?

Does the fact that she wants to "transmit to [her] crew daily" imply that she's going to call the axons that aren't hot to look for more crew members, the axons that are hot because she knows she has "crew" there, or both? (Or neither?)

Although, looking at this again, I guess we should also be asking - are we the ones to give her "further instructions" or are the new instructions going to come from the flea (or elsewhere)? I think the "further instructions" is the biggest (by virtue of it being the only, thus far) clue we have as to what to do next.

When axons are visited, their time and co-ordinates are replaced with AXON HOT. This is a clear as day sign that we need not concern ourself with them anymore.

However, when 2/2 axons are hot, the list of un-hot axons remain. The AI could have reduced the groups to just a wav file link, but they don't. So IMO un-hot axons are still worth checking out.

I don't think, actually, that hot axons are going to be rung up by the AI anymore.

i'd agree with Dumbledore here
the axons change and coordinates are removed, which surely means "don't go here anymore"
i think the best bet is what's been done today, see what happens when we have all the sound files. If there's nothing, then carry on and hit all the locations.
Sucks being a spectator here in the UK, i'd love to be out there at one of the phones.

If there's an axon nearby, I don't see any reason not to visit it, even if we're waiting to see what happens when we get the last two sound files. These things are wonderfully parallelisable.

Maybe there'll be UK axons eventually. I'd guess that lack of local knowledge, plus lack of an easy payphone-to-GPS-and-vice-versa tool, would forestall most of that though. Especially since my employer seems hellbent on closing most of the payphones around the country, too.

So what are we going to do about Axons where there are NO payphones, where payphones have been damaged or destroyed, or payphones that don't accept incomming calls?

She didn't say that there was a four day window... She said she'd keep trying until contact was made... It could be difficult for us to get all of them without alerting her to the fact that some are just plain dead ends...

From my exprience on the 24th, the coordinates aren't always exact. They seem to lead you to a general location. I meet grout and krystina for the chicago axons. The walkaway_girl coordinates were infront of the Century Mall and the phone rang inside on the 6th floor were grout was and I waited with krystina and Paul next to the 1st floor payphones. The beer coordinates were on top of the elevated train station next to Wrigley Field during a Cubs game. There were 2 payphones grout and kystina wait by the phone closest to the coordinates and I waited to the one furthest away and the one were I was rang. So I think if you do go to an axon look for all the payphones around the area.

Wait for the PMs to correct their mistakes?

You know the night before Tue I was still poking and read up some more on payphones and was about to re-disbelieve in them because of their purported unreliability.

At any rate the beekeeper expeditionary force should find, hug and kiss benboy and usernameguy, who I think earned the credit for re-opening the payphone theory with some cred.

Welcome, zero1! Good to see ya here after meeting you in person. Smile

Yeah, the Century Mall coords did seem to point at the front doors to the mall, at its actual address, but the phone rang on the 4th level, by the theaters. And you got sooo lucky with the phone at the other end of the platform! I was sure the phone I was at would ring, because it was literally on the GPS coords exactly. We ran so fast once you called us - I am sure people thought we were kookoopants. Screwy

Hey, at least we had really good falafel, eh?

<-----totally kookoopants, BTW Cool

Anyway, I think it's quite plain now, that with all of the groupings "lit up and hot", and the world not ending or getting cooler ILB-wise, that we still have more to do with these darn axons...

I think the 777 bar at the top is PUSHING us to activate every axon. And I also believe, like GunsmithCat, that any "impossible" location will be corrected. They [PMs] obviously keep track of these forums, and will be watching for our superfrustrationaldischarge (new word, like it?) about sites that can't go hot... you know?

So I say we work on all the Chicago spots (krystyn, GunsmithCat and me) and we get all of em hot. (ok, so that sounded bad...) But you know what I mean... Same with all the other locales... and if it takes till the weekend, we do it on the weekend. (bad again?) Point being, nothing will happen except the occasional Dana update or the occasional SP question/answer game update, until we get this solved. There's just no way around it. Agreed?

EDIT - To clarify, it also must be noted (although the scholarly tykes you are, I'm sure you know) that "HOT AXONS" are not getting calls anymore... so we gotta go to the non-activated sites. (I totally know you knew that, but it's also for the kids coming in, cool?)
