I brought this up in #urbanhunt, but figured I'd repeat here.

It seems that the password to this file came from this memo http://www.dreadhouse.com/foryourhelp.html

even though the writer of it is crossed out on list it unlocks, indicating his fate. furthermore, the memo is dated before the list.

continuity error or plot point?

or this was a password that was reused.

SPEC: Ed planted the disk using passwords that were in memos he leaked out of TT (Ed leaked stuff to 'jc'). These were not the original files to which both the memos' refer, but he used the passwords hoping someone would figure them out.

Yar~! First post!
Anywho, has anyone else noticed that there is something erased in the employee list, right underneath the "Problems Resolved". It looks like a signature because of the flourished L, and below that is something starting with P and something starting with F. I used levels in photoshop to increase the contrast, however, the picture is so low quality that this process makes the words unreadable. I was also wondering if anyone had a clue as to why the newsprint has the words spelled backwards while the letters were correctly oriented.

Yeah, I've just been playing with PS on that file too. Hard to make out. An inversed, differenced copy makes it a little clearer, but not much.

I just noticed another layer of letters on ELGameR's first example,
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/files/accidentnewsclipping4.jpg

At the top left there are very faint but much larger letters reading across. The first word looks like CLUES to me. There are others...more 'e's and an 'l' and a large 'C'. I have no idea if this means anything....there just seem to be lots of layers here.

Dashcat, isn't that the text elGamer removed? It looks like it reads "Accident", which is the first word of the headline.

could it be possible that the PM merely wanted the news clipping to look realistic, so he put the reversed text in there, not thinking that the letters would need to be reversed as well?

As mentioned earlier, there appears to be something hidden near the had-written note on the employee list memo. I've attached my best attempt at cleaning it up. The two bottom words look an awful lot like the "Problems Resolved" written above. The line that overlaps with the rest of the text is much harder to figure out. One interesting point though, is that the "L" is in cursive, while the rest of the hidden text is in the same style as the plain text. To me, this indicates that it was either written by another person, or is perhaps a signature.

I messed around with that for a while, and concluded that it says, "Problems Resolved". Though, I'm not sure what would of caused it to be printed twice.

We tend to instinctively expect the text to be reversed, so it would be less likely for someone to make the mistake of entering the text backwards.

Also, consider how much effort would go into typing out an article and mirroring it. Now consider how much more effort would go into typing the article backwards. Clearly the 'easier' solution was not used. Therefore there is something important about the text, since more effort was used than was necessary for realism.

Just to give a little credence to the importance of the reversed text...

In some cases

Sounds like information about an antique show in Cambridge. There appears to be some information on items being offered. Think any of the antiques are from CMH?

There's also mention of an address later in the article:

Box 580731
Minneapolis, MN

Oh good lord, don't tell me they used someone's real life contact information for this? A search on Google seems to show that this is a real-life antique show.

CAMBRIDGE, MN-Aug 7, 8—Cambridge Antique Fair, Isanti County Fairgrounds, Hwy 95. Shawn & Cheryl Hewitt, North-Trek Promotions, Inc, PO Box 580731, Minneapolis, MN XXXXX-XXXX (XXX) XXX-XXXX

This information looks pretty out-of-game to me.

Why go to so much trouble, if this information isn't important? And if it isn't important, and potentially OOG, then why leave it so clearly legible? Confused

(btw, I X'd out the information above)
