Massachusetts checking in.

Today an associate of mine and I hit the Braintree, MA Axion. We ran into two other beekeepers, but alas were out of luck as the most likely phone located just outside the Mobil station failed to ring at 5:01 EST. We are assuming the correct phone it is at the hotel nearby, but will be returning tomorrow with more beekeepers to stake out the mall phones just in case.

We will be heading out tomorrow also to hit the Dairy Queen/Sweet Tooth Shop phone in Brockton. Hopefully that one will be less vague.

Y'know, my girlfriend has a class in that building next week, in the evening, so it might be worth someone's while to see if classes are being held there in the evenings, and then do a little social engineering ...

I might be game for it, but I have rehearsal tomorrow night, so no go on Weds. for me.

I'm going to try the new Orlando Axon tomorrow. I'm working nearby, so I'll take a late lunch and hop over.

Good luck everyone!

Nice to see asset unlocked, so this isn't an urgent axon any more, but I'd sure still like to get it hot.

I might drive up there from Joliet, just because its the only illinois loc that fits my schedule, and I'd like to contribute to the axon hunt. I'll be poking around the area, hopefully long before 15:55. If you see a big guy with a ponytail looking furtive or lost, then say hi, we can coordinate, no?

Okay, 9:09 AM I didn't go this morning because it was my first day back to work from vacation. I see it didn't go hot today, so I'll be there in the morning.

17:35 Irvine, Ca... So Yanka and I found the right phone... But, it needed money to take an incomming call, and (like most of Irvine) there's lots of loud construction going on... And, well, I screwed up... So it could be any of those things... But it was probably me. Embarassed

The good news is that there are two axons where, I know exactly where they are, I know exactly where to park, I know exactly where to go, and dagnabbit they'll be hot on Wed!

Indianapolis Race to the Axons

Alright, so I guess that I will probably go to 2 of the axons in Indianapolis, Indiana. The only thing I'm hesitant about is the idea of leaving at 7 AM to go 50 miles to answer a phone. However, I think I'm going to do it. I plan on being up all night, but I think I can do it. I just wish that I had more friends to go with me!
BTW: I WILL be at the West Lafayette (try to), whether or not I go to the Indianapolis ones.

Anybody else trying any Indiana locations?

-Sno

PS: I will be bringing recorder...woooo!

I've just searched for Philly/Philadelphia AXON information and haven't found anything, so here goes. I took some photos to help out anyone else who wants to try activating this axon, but I currently have no way to get them out of my camera and online. Oh well...

Apparently someone activated the old site (8th and Market) at 10:19AM EST. Good job on that. Smile

Since I work outside the city, there was no way I could make it. Work in general was nuts yesterday and I didn't get a chance to look at Tuesday's update until the very end of the day, when I noticed the "On Time" AXON at 6:11PM EST was basically at City Hall.

I met up with a friend in the central quad of City Hall at around 5:50. Neither of us own GPS equipment, but I had printouts of the coordinates marked in MapQuest. The point is distinctly set in the SW corner of the quad, where there's a subway station entrance.

We checked out the ground level first, but didn't find any public phones in the area. Remembering what had happened at 8th and Market, we headed down the stairs.

Pretty much precisely where I expected to find it was a public phone. Unfortunately, it was out of order. A little further west, set *inside* the entrance to the station were four lovely, new public phones.

Luckily, both my friend and I have Transpasses, so it didn't cost us anything to go inside.

We stood by the phones at the appointed time, but nothing happened.

I have a distinct feeling the AXON was pointing at first phone we found -- the out of order one.

I might try this one again tonight if I can either get more specific information or it turns out we were looking in the wrong place.

I would recommend that some of the New York axons (preferably somne of the newer ones) be left alone, for two reasons:

1) In-game - It helps the Operator discover which crewmembers are where, and if some are stranded in a remote area and can't get to an axon to activate it, they're SOL when the rescue ship comes (if there is a rescue ship involved, that is).

2) Meta - Several people have speculated that the PMs want to find out where we live (or at least have a location relatively near, within a few miles).

Additionally, several Beekeepers are nowhere near any of the current axons (I'm one of them, I live in a little town in New York called West Shokan, and the closest axons are over 100 miles away, down in NYC - if I were a crewmember, I'd be stranded).

Well, if people answer all the axons in major population centres, that leaves us isolated Beekeepers out of the axon loop, as it were.

same phone as last time, no buses or big trucks to make noise -- Standard Operating Procedure.

and -- is it me, or is lack of "real" meat a big issue here? First tuna, now "spiced lamb meatballs... with real meat" (a.k.a. kofta -- mmm, indian food). Wink

I see what you mean, but by the same token, the point is to activate axons. I agree that folks shouldn't go out of their way to hit axons - for instance, I'm not about to haul up to Harlem to get the 8:01 panic_button, or even Times Square for the 7:15 awful_fast, but if I can walk five minutes from my office to get a new axon, I'm gonna.

I think that's the case for a lot of people in densely populated areas, just like it is for folks outside of urban centers. No one's killing themselves to get into a limited-access building, but if it's in the neighborhood, there's really no reason to ignore it.

Beatrice, Nebraska axon

Anyone that lives in Beatrice, Nebraska....

There is an axon in Beatrice at Southeast Community College. A geocode.com search by the College's address comes back with the EXACT coordinates of the 12:11 PST axon. This one could prove difficult, but it is only a matter of finding which payphone on the campus (not that big a campus) that will be called. There are three payphones listed on payphone-directory.org for Beatrice and they are all three on the college's campus. I would start by trying to locate these three phones. Here they are for your reference (simply find these and check the number or call with your cell phone while you walk through the buildings until you find them). It looks like each one is in different building. The dormitory ones could prove difficult to access, so let's hope it's not one of those.

402-228-9894...Southeast Community College...in instruction bldg
402-228-9817...Southeast Community College...in dormitories
402-228-9854...Southeast Community College...in dormitories

No axons have gone hot in this grouping yet, so we need to find this phone! Come on Beatrice! I live in Lincoln, but I can't get off work today to track down this phone (it's an hour drive away for me). I'm thinking if someone is keeping on this who lives close to Beatrice you can spring into action!

Alright....

I'll be making a run on the Warren, MI axon, part of the miracles group.

1721 EDT = 5:21 P.M. = rush hour, which is nasty in the Detroit area, but the axon's easy enough to get to - I-75 N to I-696, take that E to the Mound Road exit, go north again to 12 Mile, and east to Hoover Road and the Macomb Hospital Center.

I figure there may be one phone on the street corner and a phone bank or two inside the medical center. Let's hope there's not any more than that. ^_^;;;

So, yeah, try to get there by four if you'd like to help with the snag.

Axon 9:09 cute_little_caps hotted this morning. Its at the Block at Orange (a trendy outdoor mall), right hand phone right next to the Starbucks, for anyone who may need to activate it in another wave.

Shout outs to yanka and HitsHerMark, the All Female OC Axon crew. We'll hit the 17:35 one at UCI this afternoon (or does that count as evening?).
