Grabbed anything_illegal @ 9:17 AM EST. It seems another guy was there too, and had been there the previous day, but failed to realize the proper code word to say. She asked, "Crew member, what is my real name?" and he said, "Operator" twice yesterday.

So, anyway, we got on the proper track, called her Melissa, and we got another axon hot.

Going for this phone next, and will probably succeed:

 		Yeah, I told him about you guys, but not sure if he'll come. Lol, I'm such a loser that I had the printouts from this forum with me on "How to Answer An Axon". LOL! I didn't want to get nervous and answer the wrong passcode.

So, yeah, hopefully he'll show up. But I'll be hitting the rest of the phones in Pittsburgh, so if anything else happens I'll be sure to let you all know.

The Waterfront District phone will be the hardest... I've only been here for a week and don't know the buses yet to get down to it. Lol. I'll get it tomorrow if it's not taken yet...

-Funny story: Walked towards the location to find it's the Best Western I pass when coming into the city. Their only payphones are right next to the Bellman's desk (which was good since I didn't have to run around watching 10 phones), so I got to sit next to the payphones with the old bellman. Sure enough at 9:44, the phone rings and he gives me a bizarre look as I grab it. I state "Melissa" to Operator to get her to continue, and he's like "Oh, it's your girlfriend! Neat idea to have her call here. Very secret."

'Nuff said.

The manager I spoke with yesterday, didn't leave a note for his employees today. I explained the situation to a very skepitcal, yet nice woman. Hopefully she will answer correclty. So if this Axon goes hot, then we've convinced yet another innocent business to play along. If not - it's a lost cause. Bang Head

I plan to find this one tomorrow. Whoever's hitting the easy Raleigh axons (history museum, NCSU campus--thank you so very much! Very Happy) must be having a difficult time finding this one!

It took me quite a while to figure out where this axon might be, since apparently every single road map server has downtown Raleigh mapped incorrectly! Yep, it's true. Moore Park, which I was using as my reference point to figure out where the building was on the Terraserver maps, is mapped one block further east than it actually is on Rand Mcnally, Mapquest, Mapblast, AND Yahoo maps. Shocked (yeah, I'm going to complain about that--how am I supposed to find things with bad maps?) I didn't figure it out until I dug up an old paper map of the downtown area and compared it the Terraserver pic and the other maps.

So...the coordinates are only ONE block west of Moore Park, somewhere around the intersection of South Wilmington and East Martin (near the CAT terminal). There's a parking area (a deck, maybe?) at the exact coordinates, and a listed payphone around the corner at Jimmie's Downtown Market. If anyone in Raleigh reads this, feel free to come help me search on Saturday morning! Very Happy

And nothing happens.

The woman who answered the phone probably just hung up before waiting for the recording to kick in.

Or just ignored the phone cause I told her when it would ring.

oh well Sad

Take note - if you've established the number ringing is in a business - go in person.

If this axon ever goes hot it's because someone either showed up at the DQ and explained to them in person - or the guy I spoke with yesterday was the one who answered the phone.

But for me - I'm done with this one.
Maybe this next group will have obtainable phones - I may go after the one in the Braintree Mall tack_hammer - but one person among 8 listed phones and who knows how many stores .. I've gotten enough odd looks for the time being I think.

 		Bad news for my pidgeon phone... it's in the center of a HUGE BUSINESS BUILDING. Like, skyscraper. So I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this one.

If you don't see it go hot tomorrow, you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm wandering around the building somewhere in my white Star Protectorate T-Shirt yelling "WHERE THE HECK IS THE PHONE!"

But good news on the other phone, it's in a really easy place to get to, and it's pretty blatent, so I'll surely get that one.

I'm out until tomorrow. I'll report back in then. If anyone wants to help me find the pidgeon phone, PM me or meet me in that vicinity. I'm going to need help finding this one.

Does anyone know how to triangulate with gps coordinates? I just did a rough one with the three or four axons in salt lake city proper and the center was like three streets over from my house. The walking distance someone spoke of before. Wild spec I know, smells fishy yes but quite a coincidence i think.

The numbers, while they aren't big yet...are starting to grow...and there's so few of us that it's hard to get in touch. Right now, I think Hebel2k is the only one with contact to all of them...and I don't even think he can get to ALL of them.

For the beekeepers in the Oklahoma City area, my two friends and I managed to track down the Chickasha 14:09 phone today and answer it. We thought it was a lost cause at first. We made our way down to where the maps pointed to and we found the building, but it was a 2-story former womens dorm on the campus of The University of Sciences and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha. The plaque outside the building said the womens dorm had moved to a new building as of 2000 and it looked to have been abandoned since then.

None of the doors were unlocked and looking inside trash and dust were littered about. My friend managed to see someone walking around inside who was working on the place. He ran over to another one of the doors and beat on it until he was let in. He asked the guy if there was a phone in the building, the guy said there was one once, so he led my friend over to a spot on a hallway wall of the building on the exact spot on the aerial map and what he saw was four small holes in the wall where the phone was once attached. The guy said that most of the buildings on campus had at least one phone though. We figured we had run out of luck but decided to keep looking.

So we walked around to some of the other nearby buildings and managed to find some pay phones. We decided to stay near the closest since we figured it was our best shot. We waited as time passed and talked about our chances. We discussed the possibility the phone moved with the girls when they changed residence halls, or that the phone was simply removed and the number recycled back to some other random pay phone in town. The call time was getting closer and I personally felt our chances of the phone we were near working were about 99 to 1. Well, about a minute after I said that I had to eat my words, the phone rang, my friend picked up and we managed to activate the axon. This same phone is listed again next week on the next axon batch, so we are considering coming back if our schedules allow.
