it was questioned if there were two stories going on in the "goodbye.wav". where there's that sudden shift when he's put on hold. however, I would like to note that it's the same voice actor speaking as the old man, and talking to that lower officer. chances are, he's not really an old man at all, but trying to get some info on that Lance Coorporal.

what do you all think?

Well we now know that Melissa and Greene's intel got back to HQ and that they decided to at least Evacuate SOME of the citizens on Troy.

Possibly not all of them. We don't know for sure.

What puzzles me is why Flea and Melissa held this story back from us?

I'm not so sure there are 2 stories being relayed here. It sounds like the guy clamoring about his receipt is the same one who asked "any data yet?". He may have just been throwing his voice to make it unrecognizable. He may have just been checking to see what happened to "Corporal Janet Adams".

Speculation at this point, of course, but I don't think these new clips will be directly related to the other clips. Instead, I think these new clips are to let us know about the evacuation of Troy and that [WILD SPEC] ONI is monitoring local (meaning "close to Earth") transmissions to see if the Covenant is on the way.

transcript of receipt.wav:

Quote:
Man (angry): So I'm in my house on Troy... it's the middle of the night and all of the sudden a bunch of combat-booted muscleheads barge in and hustle me at gunpoint. At GUNPOINT, mind you, on to some kind of transport in my damn bathrobe. Well, I had some papers - very important family papers - and I made them promise to ship them to me. I managed to hold the goons off long enough to write out a bill of lading - you know, a RECEIPT. And finally I got this really rude marine to sign it, this lance corporal. And here I am, three months later, and no sign of my papers! No sign at all!
Woman (sounds like a secretary): You're complaining? About evac'ing from Troy, sir?
Man (sheepish): Well, not saying there wasn't a REASON for the whole thing... obviously. But the point is, I have a RECEIPT!
Woman (exasperated sigh): Name on the receipt, sir?

transcript of goodbye.wav

Quote:
Man (continuing from receipt.wav): Marine lance corporal Janet Adams. I was very careful to write that down.
Woman: One moment, sir.
(beep beep)
(Knocking at the door)
New man 1: Any data yet?
New man 2: A lot of chatter from the cable, sir. It looks like a ship dropped in, inside of lunar orbit.
New man 1: A ship...
New man 2: One of ours. The Apocalypso, sir.
New man 1: Jesus!
New man 2: Sorry sir, I should have been more specific.
(beep beep)
Woman: I'm sorry to say Corporal Adams was killed in action almost 2 months ago, sir.
Man: Oh... but I have a receipt!
Woman (sighing): Alright! I'll pass this along to my superiors.
Man: Well I appreciate that. I know my family papers aren't probably the Navy's first priority right now, but...
Woman (sarcastically): Very forebearing of you, sir.
Man: ...but they mean a lot to ME. And I have a receipt.
Woman: Thank you sir, your request has been archived and information pertinent to this case will be sent to this CP address.
Man: Thanks so much, I really appreciate...
Woman (interrupting): Goodbye!
(beep beep)
(long wind-down sound)

I wondered about this sentence from Goodbye:

"It looks like a ship dropped in, inside of lunar orbit."

The second man seems surprised by this--that it's one of "our"/human ships. Don't remember much of my Halo: First Strike (that is, possible Trout ), but does this have any significance? I remember something about Cortana being able to travel through slipspace much more precisely once she got into the network on that Covenant Ship (Ascendant Justice?). Before that, human ships wouldn't have been able to jump that precisely--inside of a lunar orbit. IF that's true, then what does it mean that Apocalypso could do it?

Then again, maybe I'm reading this totally wrong. I've been told I've been wrong before ...

quick spec and relisten..

anyone think Jan(issary) James and Jan(et) Adams might be the same person?

I just listened to goodbye and law_abiding again. I am fairly certain that her "Dad" from the original and the man in goodbye are NOT the same person.

Just kind of odd to have 2 Jans.......

Did anyone else think maybe "New Man 1" is also the man making the phone call? It almost sounds like the same voice, but disguised in the call. Almost like his real agenda was to find out if Lance Corporal Janet Adams was still alive.

Otherwise why would we hear the interaction starting with "knock knock" bracketed by the "beep-beeps?" It's like it's all happening in the same room.

This is correct. The background music is constant throughout, so "New Man 1" in goodbye.wav is posing as the crotchety old man with the receipt in receipt.wav/goodbye.wav.

Unless, and this cannot be discounted outright (at least until we get other clips), the following is the case:

Since this is CP (chatter protocol) going on. We already have proof that chatter can be hacked by a good hacker (Kumal or whatever his name was) then we HAVE to assume that the govt. could hack it too. SO... along that reasoning, maybe this isn't necessarily one person impersonating someone, but maybe the same machine scanning CP transmissions and recording them? (explains the beeps, IMHO) Anyway, I just wanted to throw that out there... I know most disagree, but does anyone have evidence that they can say shoots this down? (I welcome it.)

so why would this guy (who seems to be a high up military type) be posing as an old man trying to get info of someone else in the military? why not just ask someone in house? might he not be who we think he is (if we think he's anything yet)

The only thing I can think of is that the audio quality of the old man is much better than the assistant on the phone. It seems that when someone is being ghosted they have a more digital, "over the phone" kind of sound.

Thats the only thing I can think of and it isn't real solid. You could be right. It sure would help if we had video too. Wink

Here's how I read it. I think Man 1's "Jesus!" is one of relief when Man 2 hurriedly reassures him that the ship inside lunar orbit is "One of Ours" (As opposed to "One of Theirs"). Thus, I can draw the logical conclusion that whoever these people are they are nervous, and possibly even expecting some sort of imminent attack.

Also Dorkmaster, I don't think it's two seperate conversations, as the background music matches all the way through.

This'll porbably be trout by the time I post it - it's taking ages to go through.

I agree that the deep-voiced guy is 'putting on' the voice of "Mr. Receipt."

You can hear the slight music and the clock ticking throughout, and his voice is clearly "in the room" with the mic (as opposed to "snotty lady" who's clearly on the other end of a phone-like connection).

It also seems to me that after Snotty Lady tells Mr. Receipt that Cpl Adams is dead, it takes a few seconds for him to process that and the 'Mr. Receipt' voice suffers until he recovers and concentrates on doing the voice.

Not to mention the crotchety-old-man flavor of Mr. Receipt is just so over-the-top Smile

Unless he isn't military. Maybe he is Aiden. "One of ours" could refer to one of the ships full of people he is smuggling to Earth.

Also the way that the New Man 2 refers to "a lot of chatter from the cable" sounds like maybe he is listening in as opposed to being connected legitimately.
