[QUESTION/SPEC] Who is the narrator in the first story?

Quote:
Everything died, and I died with it, but after a timeless time I began to dream, and this is what I dreamed

Has anybody given much thought to who this first person narrator is? The Flea, the Widow, the Queen, and the Sleeping Princess are all mentioned in 3rd person (as well as a Manticore that meets a quick demise, never to be mentioned again.)

Also mentioned in that story is a ruby and a sapphire...we spec'd that the fireflies were LEDs and the sand was silicon chips; has there been any more consideration of the gems?

Just a couple thoughts on my mind, going back to the earliest parts and trying to tie them to what we know now.

I think the common spec is that this is a narration put together by Princess. It's told all in allegory and could have been tied together by reading various fairy tales, which fits her original mode of speech of combining and paraphasing existing text for her own usage.

The first line is tre odd, however. And it seems to parrellel Melissa's (assuming it's her monologue) statements about the Apocalypse, being rebuilt, etc.

[SPEC] Gems

Just a thought that occured to me about the gems. A search showed that Anton P. Nym had this idea a month ago, and it's what I would expect as well: they refer to optical drives. The colors of the lasers on CD and DVD drives come in both red and blue. However, I'm not sure that offers us much of anything, unless there might be optical media sent someplace that we'll have to dig up.

Well, if things don't mean specifically what they state (sand being silicon), then perhaps being "dead" doesn't specifically mean dying. Perhaps it can mean something else, a computer terminolgy, or an AI one?

Aren't the AIs stored on memory crystals? Maybe the ruby and saphire are shattered pieces of this crystal.
