Hey all

So finally there's an axon that i can get to easily. And... it's the one in silver spring!!
According to mapquest, it's only 5 miles from my apt, so i'm gonna go over there tomorrow morning and heat it up.

Hoping maybe cause it's new, it'll be live, but don't want to get my hopes up.

Do any of you think that you could sms me, or send me an email before the call just to make sure i have the right info for the call?
I'd really appreciate the help.

Running Around montgomery county with a bee net,
TacticalChunder

At a guess - since it looks like an apartment building - this may be hard to find. The coordinate is probably for the address generally and not for the phone specifically, although it never hurts to scope out the exact spot just in case. But assuming it's the coordinate for the entire property -- you're looking for a payphone. Presumably in a public area.
Check the payphone directories to see if one is listed for that address - that is a good (not perfect) indicator that it MAY be the phone Melissa will call. Otherwise, follow your nose.

Can you get into the building lobby to check (maybe not, security in many such buildings would not let you that close)? If not, you may be SOL.

Is there a payphone by the tennis courts and/or pool you see on the acme map off to the side? Assuming they are still open? We had an axon in Virginia that was never gotten - we THINK it was in the pool area of an apartment complex, but the pool shut for the season before it could be tested.

Get there early - scout all possibilities. If you find a phone, call it from your cell to make sure it takes incoming calls. If there's no number on it, use it to call your cellphone to get the number, then call it back. Smile If it does not take incoming (don't believe what the phone signs may say - test it yourself), move on to the next phone.

If you strike out on the first phone (that's 10:57 AM tomorrow our time), Melissa apparently will keep calling it all week, even if the axon is reported as "cancelled" when the sound clip is released. So you'll have a second chance if there are other possible phones.

I can get all of the Georgetown Cinema ones, and I believe I can get the Washington Harbour one as well, I'll just have to skip sports for the day, but I want that one as it is most liekly the only one of my options that would be a live call.

I believe MikeWas, INCyr and myself will be doing the traditional Union Station Troika.

Should be fun.

And Chappy Smile. I've got a meeting that ends at 11:30, but I should hit the station just before the phones ring.

My schedule

I plan to attempt the following tomorrow:

06:15 12 & C West
06:25 12 & C East
06:39 Natural Hist.
06:47 14th and Const.
07:09 (my cell)
08:55 Union St. (through 09:13)
10:21 Spout Run
11:33 Ballston

I fully expect to miss the Natural History axon, but it's close enough to give it a go. Especially since I keep getting dumped at 12th & C east, I might not be spending a long time there tomorrow.

Yee-haw.

Oh, yeah... any volunteers for operator duty?

DC Pattern?

Attention DC hunters: there is an interesting pattern to several of this week's axons in DC; they appear to be arranged in pairs of axons that share similar times and locations. This should make it easy for a single hunter to enhottenate two axons for any given trip. Observe:
SouthWest
06:15 (9:15a EST) "12th and C (West)"
06:25 (9:25a EST) "12th and C (East)"

MallNorth
06:39 (9:39a EST) "Natural History"
06:47 (9:47a EST) "14th and Constitution"

Arlington
10:21 (1:21p EST) "Spout Run" (and 10:25)
11:33 (2:33p EST) "Ballston"

NorthEast
12:04 (3:04p EST) "Building Museum"
12:50 (3:50p EST) "National Gallery" (times are a bit far apart tho)

MallSouth
15:19 (6:19p EST) "Carousel"
15:31 (6:31p EST) "Smithsonian"

NorthWest
15:59 (6:59p EST) "Vermont Avenue"
16:10 (7:10p EST) "Connecticut and K"

These seem to be a pair, but the times are too close together to hit both in a single day:
NorthernVA
06:31 (9:31a EST) "Wendys"
06:37 (9:37a EST) "7-11"

Obviously Union Station and the Georgetown Cinema are collections of multiple calls at multiple phones on their own.

That just leaves these locations that aren't paired up:

12:27:00 (3:27p EST) "13th and Jefferson Drive"
13:36:00 (4:36p EST) "Washington Harbor"
15:37:00 (6:37p EST) "Federal Center"
17:07:00 (8:07p EST) "GW"

It's looking like we have good coverage:

Mike is going for the SouthWest pair, the MallNorth pair, the Arlington pair, and Union Station (wow).

I'm going to go for the NorthEast pair, the MallSouth pair, and Union Station.

Cortana and INCyr will also be at Union Station.

Kakashi is going for the Washington Harbor and Georgetown Cinema calls.

Any volunteers for the NorthWest pair?

Of the stragglers, I can get the Federal Center call Thursday (perhaps Wednesday). 13th and Jefferson Drive isn't worth checking unless it's necessary, the phone is intermittently bad. That leaves GW (never located) and the two Northern Arlington calls (Wendys and 7-11) for the weekend (if necessary).

EDIT: Don't forget your personal "crew" calls Mike, Cortana, AlienDial, (and me) Smile

Welcome to the DC hunter crew TacticalChunder! Good luck with your axon tomorrow, please let us know how the search goes.
I'll be in ugly meetings right up until 11:30, so I won't know the question/answer myself until I see Mike_Was, Cortana and INCyr at the Station.

In fact, I can serve as operator for the greater bunch of ya'll today. I have to be at work today (except at lunch, when I'll skip over to Union Station) so I'll be tied into IRC and the phones at all times.

As expected, several of the afternoon axons changed a bit. This affects KAKASHI most of all:

Washington Harbour unchanged at 13:36 PDT

Georgetown Cinema will now hit at 17:03, 17:07, 17:15 and 17:17 PDT
(one new time, one disappeared)

(the GW axon disappeared entirely in the mix)

ALSO: THE AXON SPIKE CALLS NEED PASSPHRASES! IF THEY ARE NOT ALL DONE BY THE END OF THE DAY YOU MAY NEED TO MAKE ONE UP OR GIVE HER BACK AN EARLIER ONE IF YOU GET A LIVE CALL - CHECK THE ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE TOP OF THIS FORUM FOR CURRENT INFORMATION!!!!

KAKASHI if you cannot get these CALL ME!!!!!!!!

Re the Northwest axons - only 11 minutes apart, that's actually kind of difficult - 5 blocks away, and it will be pretty dark out. I may be able to get Conn. & K but not even going to try to run over to Vermont.

Booo!!!

So i went to the silver spring one, got there with like 20 minutes to spare. Searched the entire perimeter of the building, and went through the entire building, no payphones. Head down to the pool, (that's been closed for looks like years) and the gate mysteriously unlocked, with a bunch of flowers with... bees!! everywhere. I knew this had to be it.

I find a payphone, call the number off my cell, it rings, yay.

10:50, 10:55, 10:57....11:00, 11:05.

No call Sad

This i thought had to be the phone, as there is no other phone around at all, and i had a buddy of mine scouting out further away just in case.

So i'll try again on thursday, but i'm not feeling confident.

The # of the phone was 301-588-9887.

there were bees flying 2 feet from the phone, i mean come on, how could it not be it Wink

Hope the rest of you had more success then i did.
