Dumped - again!

This time we didn't even get to the question - just an extended silence where I said "Hello?" "Melissa?" and dumped immediately into "No! This isn't for you! ...purge the contents of your chatter...."

Sad

Edit - Finally! victory! On Thursday. Diagnosis of yesterday's problem - this time the recording was clearly already started when I answered - a good 5 to 10 seconds in, and I answered on the first ring. I wonder if there's something about the Sprint connection that makes the calling equipment think the line is answered before it's answered... yesterday I think the recording was too far along when I answered and it was already switching to "you don't know me" mode.

There, forum account was finally activated. x_X

Some of you have heard from me on IRC already, but I did go out to the one in Silver Spring twice, and both times didn't get a call. I won't be trying it again unless it jumps locations.

I might try to join a Union Station run, but it depends on what time - I only have about a 2 hour window of spare time between class and work on weekdays. (Except Monday, in which it's about a half hour - but Mondays aren't really that important =p)

Of course, if any show up in Rockville or Gaithersburg, I'm all over them - class/work permitting. =p

welcome! We can always use an extra hand. Even if it's just in Maryland.

Axon Hunter Poker!

That's right folks, to boost morale and just have a damn good time, what would ya'll say to some low stakes poker one night in the coming week or two? I'd be glad to host over in Arlington, or if we wanted to play somewhere else, that's fine by me.

Say, $10 buy in?

What say you?

Sounds like fun. The alien likes poker.

PS note that our cheer is on the 404 wav (twice - someone else used it, I think), most of our names, Chappy leads off the ratting out of Dana and Tom later just calls her stupid, Melissa says my name, what fun!

Our names are on the crew list for Nav/Comm (although I seem to have a secondary listing in the rank and file). Our group pics are up for Nav/Comm and TWO pics on the squad page (Chappy's labelled one and my secondary one). Kakashi is in the Engineering/Mechanics crew too!

But I look at the squad list and think...we're listed THIRD. Melissa likes someone else better than us. Sad Well it's understandable - the Myriad Wise Men did after all get ILB on CNN and MSNBC, Berkeley came up with LOTS of rank and file... ah well maybe next week.

Hi all

Let me introduce myself, My name is Sean Crowley, I have been following these odd events for a while now and would like to join the Signal Corp. I was at the phone on Connecticut and K at 8:03PM on the 12th and that axon went hot (go me). unfortunatly I didn't have all the information when I took my picture and have now been labaled a traitor. I want to help and get back into Mellisa's good graces. Please let me know what I can do to help.

"Labelled a traitor?" Huh?

Looking at the preview axons.... Silver Spring is there once again. I'm not going to try it this time.

Looks like the bulk of the DC axons are going off at around 12:40 or so. My class on Tuesday ends at 12:15, so I'd have to haul major ass to make it to Union Station from Rockville on time. I'd never make it via Metro, so how would I drive in?

First of all, Welcome! I've got a feeling that as we get closer to Tuesday, we'll start to divvy up the axons by who's available and by where they are. Usually a bunch of us try to gather for the Union Station axons, which are currently slated for 12:37p through 12:47. We've had a live call at this location each of the last three (?) weeks and it's a pretty good chance that all of us can gather in one place.

We usually meet about 5-10min early to catch up, say hi, plot strategery, before the calls start falling.

If you want to take a field axon, definitely make sure that someone else (either on the forums, or on the IRC channel, preferably the latter) has a way in which to reach you. There's always the chance it might be a live call and Melissa might have something she wants you (or us) to do. We can help with that. Keep us posted as to which axons are close to where you are and which ones you can answer!

And welcome to the corps...

Tom Bridge, CPO

I haven't gone to DC very often at all, so I don't think I can help with the ones on the field. I'm tempted to just skip my Tuesday class and head to Union Station to see if I can meet up with everyone.

This week's sheet

I've isolated out our axons for Tuesday (including personal calls, where possible), they're attached with location names in an excel file.

There are a few new ones:

16:32 PDT 38.884992 -77.015325 Washington D.C. Washington

Which is in Southwest DC. After Dark.

Not gonna be there.

However, I can go to Union Station this week, as well as whatsoever axons happen after 14:00 EDT and need manning.

Tom

another hand on tuesday

Just in case there is someone who coordinates the team efforts here,
I'll be available for maryland/DC area operations this tuesday until 1600 local. Would prefer not to cross the potomac, but If there's anything in the frederick/columbia/leesburg area (i haven't found any) glad to help there too.

I haven't looked - is Manassas still on the list this week? You might like that one Araden. Otherwise there's the Wendy's on Duke in Alexandria, or the Spout Run one. Chappy always gets Ballston because he lives right there.

For ALL of you - if you want to volunteer to cover specific phones, post your intent here. That way we won't waste effort getting to phones that are covered. Or if we do show up it will just be to say hi and trade phone numbers. If you want some focus I would say that Mike_Was and Cortana would appreciate some support on all the morning phones they have been getting, and Chappy would happily share responsibility for many of the afternoon ones. But really anything you can get is one less responsibility for the rest.

Chappy's DC reference page has excellent maps of the locations, so you should do no hunting. Like Cortana said, I do not recommend wandering around Southwest to try to find that phone. (I have to check - could that be the Federal Center SW metro, in which case it's not that bad?)

Conn&K at night is not all that safe; Vermont between K&L at that hour less so. Do not go out of your way to get those!

Here's the deal. I cleaned up Tom's document - a couple typos, and the axon in SW is the Federal Center metro that Chappy has been getting. No risk there other than lateness, but it's among federal office buildings. Added Manassas in case someone wants to try that again.

I added EDT references and dumped the map links because newbies should not hunt from scratch - get location info from Chappy's page!

IMPORTANT NOTE: The list will undoubtedly change when it goes final Tuesday. Melissa has routinely moved around several of the afternoon axons (usually among GW and the Georgetown Cinema). Dan Fabulich is great about re-running his root document before Tuesday morning, but someone may not be able to do the DC version before we head out.

Also, there are a bunch of axons that won't be assigned until Tuesday (this is a new thing), so there may be new axons there for us, or they may be assigned to the people who phoned in new axons - not sure.

SO CHECK YOUR LIST AGAINST THE FINAL RECIPE6 PAGE TO MAKE SURE THE TIMES AND LOCATIONS STILL MATCH UP FOR YOUR TARGETS!

And of course check the forums and/or chat to find out what the Q&A is for Melissa that day.

I'm going to aim for the Vermont axon, I'm not scared of that particular area at that time of night, and if need be, I can swing back around for Conn&K the next day. it's a one-or-the-other proposition time-wise right now.

Here's my list for Tuesday:

Union Station (9:37-9:47)
Wash Harbor (15:20)
Carousel (16:19)
Smithsonian Metro (16:27) - This one is a stretch. Ian, do you remember which payphone in the metro it was?
Vermont (16:46) - also a stretch if I try to get 16:27.
G'town Cinema (17:23, :26, :28, :31, :34, :37)
then finish with my call at 17:54.

Not a bad day, if it all works out. 16:27 may get left out in the effort to get from Carousel to Vermont. If that's a short call at Carousel, it's 3 min to Metro, then 10 min to McPherson, then 3 minutes to axon, which is just about as much time as I've got. Then, over to G'town cinema.

Tom
