Arg! I was at the 12:41 and 1:21, but, it turned out the cell phone clock I was using was 20 slow, so I guess I missed both of them.

Well, they're pretty much done for today (all but a few of the local ones are before 2PM), but you can see from my list or chappy's which ones are still not hot. Kaziel didn't make it to a few he hoped to try today, so ignore those annotations about his plans until we hear from him.

PS the only material difference between our 2 lists is that chappy hasn't logged (yet) the Ballston metro axon going hot.

Arg! Well it was a nice day to cruise the mall a bit, anyway. Both of those axons are hot now, but if you check the lists (and confirm against the hivekuts page before you walk out the door), there are still a few around the mall that need en-hot-enating.

Way to go Kaziel! Sorry to hear about your cell phone monkeymule, I hope you had a nice day anyway (the heat and humidity was finally bearable today).

I've updated the DC Reference Page. I moved the hot axons to the bottom, but I think I need to clean up the HTML a bit. Suggestions welcome Smile. Kakashi117 (and monkeymule and everyone else), the axons at the top of the page haven't been connected yet. You may notice that mousing over the graphics displays coordinates in your browser's status bar (if you have it enabled via "View -> Status bar"). If anyone knows where phone icons should be placed, it'd be helpful to include the those numbers. Kaziel, I'd love to hear from you about phone locations if you have the time.

It looks like the still-locked .wav files don't depend on DC phones, but I'll try to make it to nearby phones when I can.

Chappy, try to use more separation between the axons. When the text runs together it gets pretty confusing. Also, if you could widen the text column, that might help readibility too. On my laptop screen I have a couple inches to the right of the map that's just blank space.

The Connecticut & K axon is a NEW one (not old).

The 6:23 axon is an old one; it's on the old list, we just don't know who got it. Or where it is, since kaziel tried and failed to find it today.

7:43 should probably mention that the next place to look may be inside the Studio Theater,as we have tried the phone on the SW corner. edit - kaziel later found one on P St. on the other side of 14th, not far away. Another possible.

10:15 you have a couple of phones showing from last time - they should probably not be considered potentials for this axon since the coordinates have been changed.

Never heard back from EdifyYo. That may be a bust, but leave his name for the moment. Maybe he'll try again.

Had some near misses... The very north end of the Eastern Shore, Newark, Delaware. That's just about as far as DC for me... I was hoping for something on the south end of DE or MD/VA line...

Thanks for your concern AD, but reports of my injury and/or death are greatly exaggerated. Wink

Now for my normal extensive report.

First off I included edited pics of almost every location that I went to, if the given location is off from where the phone is. The yellow circles are the location of the phones. If I didn't include a edited pic, then the star or the red crossharis were on the mark.

As stated in my earlier post, I woke up at 7:30 (guuh @_@) and was out of the house by 7:50~ and I rode down to mall, about an hour's ride by bike from my Apartment up in Tenley Town (north of Georgetown for those who don't know)

Arriving at the Museum of Natural History I easily found a pair of payphones across the street. I had about 20 minutes to kill, so first I checked to make sure they were both working, which they were, and then I looked around the area to make sure there weren't any more phones in the area. As the time came, I got jittery, butterflies in the stomach and all. The time came and went, as far as my watch said, so I started walking away to my bike, when the phone rang. I scrambled back to it. I'm sure I looked like some sort of hyperactive monkey or something, but I made it in time, and was asked what her real name was, which I answered Melissa, then heard the .wav file and went on my way. I realized my watch was a few minutes fast and accounted for it.
Note: It was the phone facing east.

6:23 PDT phone not found. I thought this was one found last time - INCyr says he was't the one to get it last time). Anyone else willing to fess up that they got it last time? And who can give a definite location?

I posted a file (6-23 EDIT.jpg) below. While I was waiting for 10:11 PDT phonecall later, I did a bit of searching around, and found a phonebooth in the yellow O... it's kinda hidden... doesn't look like a phonebooth, as we know it now. Also, the blue X is where I waited this morning, so I know it's not that booth.

7:43 PDT phone not found. I showed up too. The only one on the corner did not ring (we checked, it could). Resident said that's the only street payphone for at least a block in all directions. I suppose there could be one inside the Studio Theater on the corner but we had no basis to walk into a closed theater at this hour of the morning. Probably there are some in the Whole Foods Market halfway down the block on P Street, but since the to_do sound clip is available I don't think we should bother to try to find it again.

edit - a check of the 7:43 coordinates on geocaching.com puts the phone even more emphatically inside the Studio Theater. For all I know the lobby could be open (they probably have business stuff going on, shows in rehearsal, whatever), but I probably can't get back to check it out.

First off, I would like to state that AD has joined the ranks of the coolest people in the world IMO. She brought me a shoulderbag filled with bottled water and Krispy Kreme doughnuts. ^_^ Also, that allowed me to pick up a newspaper and carry it with me. Thanks again, AD.

Anyways, AD, after you pulled off in a cab, I hopped on my bike and rode down the sidewalk to the west of where we were sitting there, and not more than 35 feet away was another phonebooth... >.> Yeah... So if on the next set they ask for the same area, then we can try there...

After parting ways with AD, I rode over to Vermont Ave (9:07 PDT), and since I'd already been to this phone, I wandered around looking for a bookstore, to no avail. *sighs* So I headed back to the phone, grabbed a Philly Cheese Sub and hunkered down in front of the pair of payphones there, and waited for my call. It came, on the same phone from before and I answered it, again asking for the real name.
Note: It was the phone facing south.

I then went to 9:41 PDT and 10:11 PDT, with no troubles. Once again, I was asked what was her real name. I answered with no troubles, and got the AXONs hot.
Note: 9:41 PDT is the phone facing East

Now, here's where things start getting interesting. Everyone already knows of the ones I planned to go to, the AXONs didn't get going... Well, I was there for all 3 of my planned following calls, plus I was the only one there (actually other than AD, I didn't see any beekeepers yesterday), so I answered the phone. On 10:21 call, I waited and when she asked for her real name I said "melissa" to which I was given the negative reply. Confused and thinking maybe I had misheard her and she asked for her nickname, I hopped on my bike and rode to 10:35. Waiting there, I thought about it... I didn't think I had mispronounced Melissa or had stuttered on saying it, so either I misheard it, the program misheard me, or I had been intentionally blocked. At that point I had answered 5 phones in one day, and if this voice recognition software was decent, it could recognize the similarity in a voice and keep track of how many times one person says something. That to me, would explain why all the phones in one area all ask for the same name (on last Tuesday, all of the ones I went to asked for nickname, while yesterday they all asked for real name). As I continued to think, the phone rang, and I answered, again being asked for her real name, and again being told I was wrong despite saying the name 3 times (I had seen INCyr do this last week, so I know it works). This reinforced my theory, so I rode down to the 11:01. Riding down the rode that the phone was on, I saw none, and then I saw the down escalator to the local metro station, and remembered the AXON INCyr had activated on his own the week before... he had mentioned that it was in a metro station, so I locked my bike up and wandered down there, finding the phones that he had mentioned before. They were behind a set of maps for the, with a divider between them, so, basically if I was at one, and the other rang, I probably wouldn't have made it. Noticing there was enough space to sit comfortably underneath it, so I sat there waiting until one of the phones rang. Once again I was asked for her real name, and once again, upon saying "Melissa", I was denied. At this point I'm fairly sure there's some reason for my inability to access the files. I will state what my theory are later.
Note: 10:21 PDT is the phone facing West. 10:35 PDT is the phone facting toward the Washington Monument. 11:01 PDT is the one on the left-hand side, when looking at the maps.

After this, I decided I wanted to go to Union Station. Try to get more data to back up my theory. Since I didn't want to just sit around for 3 and a half hours, so I went and saw Hero (that movie sucked... I want my 2 hours back. >.<) at the movie theater, and after it was over, I went to Union Station, arriving about 15 minutes before the call. I looked over the station map and saw 2 locations (I missed the 3rd one, so sue me.), and going to the first, I saw it was outgoing call only on 2 of the 3 phones there, so I went to the 4 booths of phones, each with 4 phones on it. Waiting until the time, no phones rang, but one of the phones was in use, so that might explain it.

Okay, now for my theory on why I was stopped from getting more phonecalls. If the voice recognition program is setup to ask for the same name in one area (someone else validate this for me, Chappy, yesterday when you were going and picking up phones, did you get asked for real name or nickname?) then it can compare voices and limit the number of phones activated by one person. IMO, I think one voice can activate 4 phones per day. Later on, I'm gonna post this idea as [SPEC] on the main forum, assuming it hasn't already been suggested (gonna look it up).

EDIT: ACK! ACK! Mislabled where the 11:01 is... it's the one on the left-hand side! >.< Changed it up there too.

Thanks for your kind words, Kaziel. Aw shucks. But you were so ragged out last week and having to buy expensive bottle of water to stay on the path, I wanted to make sure you did not suffer this week. You really have gone over the top in your attempts to clear axons, so we all owe you a huge debt of gratitude.

You may be the first person to get four axons all by your onlies in one day, and therefore the only one to fully test this theory. There was one guy in SF that did six or more in one day, but he had someone along for part of the day so he may not have hit this hypothetical barrier.

And of course it doesn't explain why the Operator didn't accept Oliver's answers last weekend since he had only done one axon and that was several days earlier. Others also reported similar problems last week.

Another possibility - all spec of course - is that a certain percentage will just fail. Perhaps on purpose, perhaps randomly, who knows, but this would ensure continuing open axons to give people something to do.

Happily, the ones you did get were all DC needed to contribute to the sound-clip-opening goals of this "puzzle", so we are golden.

The rest are just easter eggs for people who want to try to get down to the Mall - and now you guys have exact locations, so feel free to clear the rest of the "found" axons over the weekend!

But if there's a friday update, somebody else is in charge. Laughing

I know by doing this, I'm gonna be trying to make sense of something that doesn't need to make sense (remember, the PMs make up their own rules as they go along...), but to me, it doesn't make sense that I could get 4 phonecalls right, and then 3 wrong... seems like too much of a pattern... if I had gotten like 1 right, then 3 wrong, then 3 more right, I would just shrug it off... Dunno but it's 4 right then 3 wrong. Confused

With that statement, you reminded me of my other theory. What the 777 AXON bar is counting down to. I'm gonna say it here, but I'm also gonna search to see if anyone else posted it. I think when the 777 AXON is counting down to when Melissa stops sending messages... if that's the case then we need to be aiming for as few AXONs as possible...

More NoVa coverage

Hello from a new hunter in Merrifield,

If there's still a need, I will make a run to the 13:55 tack_hammer location today.

Are there any other pilots on the list interested in scouting the more remote (from DC) locales? Petersburg would be a quick trip, but my Arrow's in the shop.

BTW, one small correction to the magnificent DC page on mac.com - those times are EDT, not EST.

Hey everyone, Oliver here. Waking up at 1:15 after a late night (around 5 in the morning I finally went to sleep), I checked my messages to see if aliendial told me which ones noone was going after at the moment. I saw the Washinton Harbour one at 1:49 EDT, and realized I had 20 minutes to shower, get dressed, and bike from the Cathedral. I had 10 minutes left as I started biking out the door.

Biking hard, I got there, thinking I only had a few minutes left. But I had plenty of time (7 mins)...I had made the journey in 3 or 4 minutes, a record for me. I was there in time and answered the phone correctly...about to crack up though as there were many people staring at me...no wonder since I had been leaning on the wall for 5 mins looking around and all of a sudden answered a ringing payphone haha. Anyways, that axon is hot, and I'm gonna try for the 10:35 and 11:01 axons tomorrow. I suggest others try as well though, as I'm not sure if I can make it since I need to get a blazer for my school which starts Tuesday.

Anyways, one more down...hundreds to go Smile
