So, accomplished today:

6:31 PDT (Mike_Was)
6:59 PDT (Mike_Was)
7:21 PDT (Mike_Was)

12:39 PDT (aliendial)
13:25 PDT (aliendial)
14:07 PDT (aliendial)
14:33 PDT phthbphththphthth "bad connection" (aliendial)
15:01 PDT (aliendial)
(thus preventing me from testing kaziel's theorem regarding answering more than 4 axons in a day, but perhaps we can test the "more than 4 axons in a week" version in the next couple days)

13:51 PDT (chappy)
14:57 PDT (chappy)

15:31 PDT (mystery person)

A grand total of 10 in one day, out of 21 (if we include the northern virginia ones that we kind of adopted). We so rule. 'Course,we got lotsa axons to work with.

Needed:

DC (all times PDT, of course)

6:27 Union Station (do not kill yourself unless this is the only way to unlock a clip or you have time over the next several days to stake out lots of phones)

10:11 chappy is committed for this one

10:51 unfound National Gallery phone - chappy will probably try the 6th&Constitution phone; otherwise no idea

12:07 14th & Constitution - easy get

13:11 Washington Harbor - easy get

14:33 Jefferson Drive in front of Agriculture - easy get as long as Melissa doesn't keep messing with us.

17:03 Georgetown Cinema - kakashi will get?

Northern Virginia

6:51 Fair City Mall (we think) - still not found

11:41 Spout Run & Lee Hwy (new, not too hard to search but middle of the day - a group effort will probably have to wait for the weekend)

12:11 Manassas - inside 7-11 at Digges & 234 - easy get except for the part about being out near Nissan Pavilion

12:35 Wendy's at Quaker Lane in Alexandria - easy get

I was going to say we could rest on our laurels a bit, but our efforts helped unlock only one clip today (we didn't have any axons in the second one). At the mo, only 6 others have 4/5 axons needed. There's lots of 1,2 and 3 axons. So frankly they are ALL still needed.

Even if you can only get one, that will be a BIG help.

See chappy's site (next post) or my list in page 4 of this thread:

Many thanks to Aliendial and Mike_Was for activating axons today! It does look like we'll have to hit a greater percentage each round, so every successful call is a "Good Thing(tm)".
Thanks for the coordination update, Aliendial. I've updated the DC Reference Page with the latest information. It's sorted with the cold axons at the top in chronological order.

Argh. This sucked.

In the satellite image you can see that there are basically three buildings - a CVS on the south end, some small shops in the middle, and a Giant grocery on the north end. Each segment has a bank of pay phones, with about 100 yards in between.

The CVS has two phones near a mailbox. The Giant has one phone one its south entrance, and thre phones at its north entrance. The three north phones tested dead - one had an "Out of Service" sticker, so we should rule those out.

I staked out the south two phones by the mailbox at about 11:30 PDT. There were some Giant employees on a break near the other phone and I asked them to wave at me if the phone rang.

At 11:38 PDT, a pickup screeches up to the curb next to me, spilling out a grizzly, doo-rag wearing redneck who was smoking as if he had personally discvoverd the cure for lung cancer. Sure enough, he used one of the phones for the next four minutes exactly. When he started, I thought he was in so much of a hurry that he would be done before the target time, but it took him a few tries to get that newfangled "collect call" thingy working.

So I watched the other phone and kept one eye on the one phone in the middle. At about 11:42 PDT by my watch, the breaking workers had disappeared but a man walking by that phone looked right at it, so it may have been ringing at that point. Nothing happened at my end.

Three theories:

1. The broken bank of phones to the north side is the target, and we can't get it.

2. The midle phone is the target and I just plain missed it.

3. Grizzly redneck was an axon-block.

If we try this one again tomorrow, we'll need at least two people. Maybe that means it waits until Saturday. I'm very frustrated, since that would have been the last one to unlock "would_that_help"...

The 10:11 axon in Federal Center is hot, no problems. Mike_Was joined me prior to the call, we covered both phones JIC, but it was the left phone as expected. My thanks go to Mike_Was for the ride to the 10:51 axon! He went for the new axon at Spout Run while I waited by the Gallery.

The 10:51 axon in the National Gallery of Art is hot, with problems Smile. I had expected the call to come to the phone at the corner of 4th and Consitution, but since I had time to check the phone thanks to Mike_Was, I discovered that it doesn't accept incoming calls. Back into the Gallery I went <sigh>. I'd previously tried two of the three phone clusters on the first floor (center and west) with no success. Instead of trying first floor East, I went for the second floor east-center pair of phones. There was much rejoicing when the phone rang and the axon went hot. I'll update the DC reference page when I get home, but the long version is "Enter the Gallery and take a left past security and take the stairs up to the main floor. Walk left towards the Men's bathrooms and you'll see phone booths on your left. It's the left phone."

I will not be able to get any more axons today, but as of 3:40 these axons can all be activated:
4:11 EST Washington Harbor at corner of 30th Street and K. Phone beside stairs at fountain level (west side)
5:33 EST On Jefferson Dr. between 12th & 14th. Verizon double kiosk on the edge of the Mall. West phone.
8:03 EST On K Street between 30th Street and 31st Street. Inside Loews Georgetown Cinema. Phone is on back left wall, second phone from left

Note that the 8:03 EST axon will unlock the "something_i_carry" sound file. (4:11 is already unlocked, and 5:33 is at 2/5).

Oh, and nice to meet you today. How did the Gallery treat you? GMTA. Glad to hear you lit it up.

And... we have a new player - Dodgson, who got his sister to hit the Wendy's in Alexandria today. Excellent virtual team work.

WTG chappy for finding the gallery phone. aliendial the pessimist is overruled!

Re Spout Run I'd be afraid the weekend would be worse re the phones. Keep posting results and if there is any cleanup left for the weekend we can work it out.

Name/Number proven phones?

It occurs to me that since many of these phones have been re-used (e.g. 12th and D st) we ought to name and/or number them for future reference.

Any chance of doing this on the reference page?

I converted the page to be database-driven last night, so sure! (I got tired of hand-editing the html Smile ). I'm using both numbers and names like "unionstation" for each site; I'll try adding the site names to the page tonight, let me know what you think.

Well, they already have names. Ones that don't require me to look up which one "number 3" is and THEN look up where that one is: 14th&P; 12th&C NW corner; 12th&C NE corner; Wendy's in Alexandria; 14th&Constitution; and now National Gallery etc etc

Sorry guys, I've had a killer headache the past two days, so I haven't been able to get the Georgetown 8:03 one. I'm pretty sure I can get it tomorrow though, and if not, I'll get it before Monday...you guys don't need to worry about it. And if nobody else has gotten it by this weekend, I can get the Washinton Harbor one too. So no worries about the Georgetown Cineplex one, and i can prolly get the Washinton Harbor one if noone else can...as long as this weekend isn't too late.

Something like that. Saw it on another forum and just had to make it mine. Hysterical, ain't it?

My God... it's beautiful!

Thanks, Chappy.

Anyway, for planning. I'm going to try the Spout Run axon again tomorrow. Can anyone join me? I can drive to and from nearby metro stations if that's an issue. I also would like to try to hit the 14th and Constitution one, and if Cortana's friend in Manassas plays along, that will unlock s_typhi. So we could unlock two in under an hour if all goes well.

Let me know.
