[META] Vegas: Flying Elvis Enhottenators, Baby

OK, here's a thread, since we haven't really been posting publicly.

Some info about the Vegas location. The phones at the Bellagio (up the escalator to the right) were monitored yesterday with no rings. I tested them anyway, and incoming calls are routed to the Bellagio front desk.

As for the other three corners:

No phones were found on the Caesar's Palace corner.
No phones were found on the Balley's corner.

This leaves Barbary Coast, which seems most likely, as it has two banks of payphones inside the casino. These phones have an issue with incoming calls, however. The phone will ring, but when you pick up, it's dead. They may connect if you put 50 cents in, but I didn't try it.

There may be more phones around, but I sure as heck couldn't find any. If someone in town has a GPS, that might be real helpful.

I can't make the axons tonight, as I have a gig, but I'll give it another shot tomorrow. A good Beekeeper meeting spot would be the corner just in front of the Barbary Coast. There's a bottled water stand there.

And don't forget. If you fail, you've always got the free Big Elvis show.

FWIW: The elvis and the elevater phone pictures are labelled the wrong way around.

[EDIT] you got there before I could finish posting. Razz

Count me in... Unlike yesterday, I know about the axons in the city today... Just wish I knew what phone... oh well, let's see how many we can get today...

BTW, is it possible that the phones might be inside the lobbies of said casinos? (ie : Bally's Caesar's, Bellagio, Flamingo)

see you there..

I thought about that, but those lobbies are WAY far away from the actual intersection. But...ya never know.

Remember - in some cases the coordinates are merely for the address, which would cover the entire building, so I woiuldn't be so quick to dismiss other phones in there.

You saw my post about Potomac Mills Mall all being at ONE address? (60 plus phones on the payphone database alone....) That being the case, focus on what you consider the "obvious" ones. After that I don't think it's worth the agony of daily attempts to try three more phones at a time.

I'll camp out Caesar's... The casino map they post on their site has 3 possible locations by that corner (once you go inside, that is)... Oh well, we'll see...

No dice at Caesar's (really hard to canvas an entire casino the size of Caesar's by yourself... Anybody else have any luck?

As a side note, there were signs all over Caesar's stating that they were taping a series for A&E called Caesar's - The Series (how original)... now that woulda been cool... ah well... the quest continues...

So no luck, eh? I wasn't able to go yesterday (couldn't convince the wife). Is anyone going today?

Yeah, I'm going. Okay, Caesar's is out (well, the casino in, anyway)... onto the next possible phone location... Barbary Coast? Bally's? Bellagio? The Forum Shops? Man, I'm REALLY glad this wasn't a block over, that would include us having to canvas the Fashion Show mall, TI, Mirage, and the Venetian..

On a side note, I checked to see if there were any local Geocaches at that location, and the closest was the front of the Bellagio? (The fountains, I think) Anybody wanna check the odds? Possibly near the front or something?

I'll be there today too. I'll probably triple check the phones in the Bellagio and make sure they really can't be called, so we can rule them out.

Caesars, just none around outside the casino. Barbary Coast still seems the most likely to me. I'll check out if pumping a couple quarters in the phone enables you to answer when it rings.

I'm amazed at how few public payphones there are any more, heh.

Day before yesterday, I actually did call one of the phones in the central call bank in the Bellagio shops and it rang. These were the ones by Victoria's Secret. You can call into them, and they might have been one of the axons, but people were occupying two of them. One of y'all might want to post up there today.

OK, a little more research before I head out.

Turns out the Bellagio phones CAN receive calls. Plus, they're in an air conditioned place, which is nice (it was like 114 degrees on Tuesday).

There is apparently also a payphone right inside the lobby at Caesar's but that's really pretty far away.

I'm going to cover the phones in the Bellagio today, as i really don't know about the Barbary Coast phones being able to receive incoming calls. I'll get there early to confirm.

So, the four options we know about are:

Bellagio up the escalator to the right
Barbary Coast near the elevators
Barbary Coast near the front desk
Caesar's lobby (unconfirmed)
