Well, I didnt activate any axons - there were multiple phones over at the media city center, and the ones I chose werent the right ones. Unfortunately, none of the phones listed their numbers, so I couldnt check to see if they take incoming calls.

I didnt have time for the 17:59 one, but I tried the Griffith Park one, but had the totally wrong location, which I notcied after the fact.

I have classes tommorow, but I'll try again on Friday.

I'm the one who got the 12:41 Burbank axon (the_human_heart) on Tuesday. Sorry for leaving you with all the tough ones. Mr. Green

I tried the Media City Center axon (i_hate_you) three times last week. I can verify that the group of three pay phones on the third floor at the far back end of the mall -- that is, not directly adjacent to the Magnolia entrance -- are not the ones we want. Other than that, I kept running into people who wouldn't get off the Censored phones, so I have no idea whether we want the ones on the first floor or the ones on the third floor.

I'm pretty sure that the Hollywood Way axon (creepy) is at the Burbank Airport Hilton. I haven't had time to check it myself yet, but I believe there are at least eight pay phones there. I probably won't be able to make it to any more axons until the weekend, so if you can hit any before then, more power to you.

And I didn't even notice that there was one in Griffith Park. It's that second "Hollywood Reservoir" coordinate (right) at 16:59, isn't it? Shame on me!

The Claremont axon is again proving difficult to activate . . .

Axon Info:
"real" 16:41 PDT, 34.107226 -117.729117
Claremont, CA

Coordinates point to a Chevron station at the corner of Foothill Blvd. and Mountain Ave. (not to be confused with the Foothill/Mountain intersection several miles to the east). www.payphone-directory.org (henceforth PPD) lists three phones at the location, and we also found three:

1) One by a group of yellow poles on the West side of the gas station. Phone number: (909) 625-4414. The phone receives incoming calls--the number listed on the phone has a (323) area code, and is incorrect. The phone does not match any number on PPD. Phone did not ring.

2) One on the North side of the gas station. Phone number: (909) 624-4083. The phone receives incoming calls, but the phone number is not listed on the phone. The phone does not match any number on PPD. Phone did not ring.

3) One inside the Chevron food mart. I was unable to get the number for this phone, and I had difficulty convincing the clerk to help us out. I am pretty sure this phone did not ring (I think someone for our group hung out inside when 4:41 rolled around), but I can't verify that.

Those are the only phones directly on the axon point. There are a few in the nearby strip mall:

4) One in front of a Liquor store. Phone number: (909) 445-0649. Does not seem to accept incoming calls--I tried the number and only heard squealing modem sounds. The phone does not match any number on PPD. Phone did not ring.

5) A Verizon phone, in front of the Ralphs. Phone number: (909) 626-9140. The phone is marked "Does not receive incoming calls" and it means it. The phone is correctly listed on PPD, and correctly marked as unable to receive incoming calls.

6) The brother of #5. Phone number: (909) 626-9010. This phone recieves incoming calls, but did not ring. The phone is correctly listed on PPD.

To clarify, the three "Claremont Chevron" numbers on the PPD do not match any phone we've found on site. I've called all three of the PPD numbers and got "This number has been disconnected" on all three of them. The only phones that matched their numbers were the Verizon phones by the Ralphs, and a friend and I just confirmed their silence today. Unless someone with much better social skills wants to try checking on the phone inside, I'm starting to wonder if this axon is dead.

Since the three phone numbers on PPD don't match the real-life phones at the Chevron, I'm wondering if the PMs are calling the wrong numbers. The problem is, I don't even know if the numbers they're callling [b[exist[/b] in the real world. Does anyone have any ideas on how to pass information on bad phones to the PMs?

(I had fun testing phone #6 -- I called the phone a couple hours early while a friend and I were researching the PPD numbers. Someone picked up the phone:)
Payphone: "Hello?"
Me: "Hi! Is this the phone in front of the Ralphs?"
Payphone: ". . . uh, yes . . ."
Me: "Thank you very much!" *click*

Glad to have served to increase local surreality . . . Wink

(A shout out to the guys who helped check out phone #2 on Tuesday, and the Beekeeper checking phone #4 today. This one is rough!)

Because I'm wacky, I made a list of the Orange County known axons. See the link in my signature. (includes projected 9/7 axons)

17:59 "creepy," Burbank, California

MrBabyMan and I hit the 17:59 "creepy" axon. It's the third pay phone from the left in the Convention Center, which is just east of the Burbank Airport Hilton. Full credit to MrBabyMan for actually making the connection; I was watching the bank of phones in the hotel itself.

/me objects to paying for parking just to hit an axon.

Woo, now I don't need to do it! Very Happy

Agreed, it costs a minimum of $1.50 to answer the "creamsicle" axon in Irvine. ($1 for the 1 hour parking permit, and $0.50 to get the incomming call at the pay phone.)

But considering that it's (litterally) in the middle of the local University, and like... 5 min from my work... $1 for an hour is actually pretty good for parking, and I think I save more then that in the gas I would be using to drive to a (free) axon somewhere more removed from where I live and work.

The Media city center Axon is proving tricky - there's like a bazillion phones there, so I have to elinate them systematically. Unfortunatly it looks like I wont be able to, if these calls stop Tuesday. I attempted the Griffith Park axon again - but I got stuck in traffic and got there too late - actually, I didnt even bother looking for the phone, but it is almost certainly not accessible by car. I believe its on the Hollyridge trail, so it probably involves a bit of a hike. I dont know if I'll hit it it tommorow or not (labor ay weekend - traffic may be insane) and last time I was there there was no parking either...

Anyhow, when the new axons start, I should be able to get some.
If anybody plans on heading to media city center, its neither of the banks of payphones on the first floor, near the security office. Theres one on the third floor near McDonalds and hot dog on a stick that I want to try - and also, a few phones listed on payphone directory - but I dont think I'll be able to - college is back in full swing, now.

Boy, I wish you'd posted this before I went there yesterday. I wasted my axon run standing by phones you had already eliminated. Oh, well. Dunno

More failure today. By process of elimination, however, the correct phone must be the left-most phone in the third floor food court, since that was the only one of those four phones stubbornly occupied during the crucial time frame. Cursing

Unless...

Do you think Melissa would have picked a different phone this week -- even though it's at the same GPS coordinate -- because she didn't make a connection last week? In other words, phones that I think we've ruled out aren't really ruled out? Crying or Very sad Bang Head

Claremont and telephones

Hi all,

I sent this to Skyfall via email, but I thought I'd post it here, too, in case more than one person is searching for that same axon. I have had the phone outside Ralph's on Foothill in Claremont ring on me out of nowhere in the middle of the night, so that phone can and does take incoming calls. Mind you, this happened to me more than three weeks ago, so this could not have THE call, but I hope this can help y'all work it out one way or another.

Have fun,
0

Re: 16:07, Burbank, California

Failure once again at the Burbank Media Center axon. No one was on any of the four pay phones in the food court, let alone the leftmost one. I even brought someone else to watch the three pay phones on the far side of the third floor -- ruled out last week -- just in case Melissa was calling a different number this week. No rings. I think "i_hate_you" is the perfect code word for this axon.

Today was our last chance to get it, too. Should be archived within the next few hours or so. Sorry. Sad

New Axons on http://www.ilovebees.com/fable.html

I won't be able to go to 11:59 PDT "unstoppable" at the Block. But I think Robynn said she'd be able to get that one.

I'll be able to grab 12:45 PDT " retirement" on the UCI campus.

All OC axons are listed on Robynn's Awsome Site

It's interesting that the Movieland spot has three different calls comming to it.

09/07 16:05 PDT - butter_flavored
09/07 16:25 PDT - kiss_them
09/07 16:47 PDT - never_right_again

I wish I could go to that one, just because I have the most time invested in it... and because Po Folks has great fried green tomatos! But I'm working, so, if they haven't been picked up by Saturday, I'll pop on down.

There are also two in Anahiem that I wouldn't be able to hit until the weekend.

I'll be able to hit the 16:33 and 16:43 axons, but not until wednesday (well, one one wednesday, one on firday)

If I can get myself out of bed I could do the 9:17 convention center one, but I have a feeling MrBabyMan or Shad0 could get those too....

So yah, save me an axon for wednesday, cause I have an afternoon class tommorow. And I know pretty much eXACTLY where the 16:33 axon is. It's outside, next to the media center, at the AMC theatres. (its on payphone directory) Anyhow, the 16:43 one, the one on hollyood blvd - is that new? Whatever, if its not done by friday, I can get it.
