Oh.

Well, if that's true, just ignore everything I've said today. ^_^

Ah, someone must have misremembered it.

Still, this remains a time problem; if she does think she has gone back in time, as MeKiwi says (I'd forgotten that quote, about being brought to this time), then why does she think her crew are still around, and surely if the ship's crashed then the crew aren't assigned to it any more?...

Yeah, I guess she cannot tell cuz power is down for she has no life-support monitors operating.

... unless the crash was unexpected and she doesn't know her whole crew died in the crash. If it's true that the ship went dead except for some sort of "life support for AIs", then perhaps she can't even *see* or *sense* anything inside the ship. The video monitors could all be down, the sensors could all be down... maybe all she has is some sort of radio transmitter with which she hacked into someone's WiFi network. Maybe the entire crew was killed in the crash and she doesn't know it.

Yeah, 3-day weekends tend to do that to me. Woohoo! ^_^ Besides, look how beautiful it is out there today...

I think she would consider herself assigned to a ship even if that ship was destroyed. It's her military assignment, which wouldn't change until she got new orders, despite it's status (?)

Except, if the wording on the call is right, she's asking "what ship are you assigned to?", with 'you' being us, the crew.

Right, and us being the crew would still be assigned to her ship as well.

I just came back from answering an axon, and she did ask me what ship I was assigned to.

I agree with Me, she still thinks we are (or could be) her crew.

True dat.

Wow, what a shock it'll be when we finally get her back online and she realizes that we aren't really her crew at all!

Hmm, so now that we have confirmation that we are assigned to the Apocalypso (and therefore, Melissa is almost certainly assigned to the Apocalypso as well)... it seems to me that the hello/goodbye arc on recipe3 is based on Melissa's memories where the other wavs (hiro/kamal,etc.) are transmissions currently being intercepted. Why does the SP want to show us memories that Melissa has? Does Melissa know she has these memories and is choosing not to share them with her crew but instead only seek help from the crew for the transmissions she doesn't understand??

Speaking of "what a shock it'll be," this is still bothering me:

Melissa has posted 30 more groups of twelve axons, with a minimum 5 recipients for successful transmission.

Melissa is therefore expecting to make contact with anywhere from 150 to 360 crewmembers.

But Melissa's ship has a crew of only 40. (MAYDAY text.) Shocked

Can't open the page at the moment (no response) but I'll take your word for it.

I agree, that is very weird. Either she's collecting evidence that we really AREN'T her crew or she has something else up her sleeve. Mysterious indeed, Shad0.

If she hadn't, we would have had an awful lot of trouble unlocking this set of axons. Mr. Green

Well, and I'm paraphrasing here - but she's also going to descend out like a vengeful burning dove or something. I mean, let's face it - calling up pay phones to make reports is a pretty silly thing for a espionage AI to do regardless, so I think we should place her judgement in the "insane" column for this one.

I looked through the Organised Mayday Text and couldn't see any mention of the number of crew members. could you quote it perhaps?
