But seeing as how she built a voice from scratch, can you really rely on that for identification?

Good point, question withdrawn. Forgot about that. ^_^

Just ideas

I never answered a phone so I can't answer that question. I just find it interesting that the vast majority of information from the future timeline is in wav(audio) form. Why is the only time Melissa speaks it is in text. Maybe the PMs are trying not to make it too easy

Well, there are WAV files that play on the "Hives" page, and used to play on the "Comatas" page (and still do in the quarantined/archived old versions of it.) These were originally of bees buzzing, but Melissa used them to build her voice. I think at least one is not only wholly free of buzzing but also rather constant in pitch. (By the way, if you weren't aware, each time you load one of those pages, one of the WAVs plays at random. It'll be bees buzzing most of the time, but you'll occasionally hear a voice repeating "I love bees" through the buzz, and rarely you may find one or two with no buzzing.)

i guess this thread is kinda pointless now

i mean... that's it right?
at this point, noone's brought up what's maintaining that "fragile connection", its not like the ILB server is connected to a massive antenna array capable of transmitting though time.... is it?

pointless? Sad
I'd rather say that the theory was confirmed Smile

We've thrown a couple theories of the nature of the connection around throughout this thread, as well as a bunch of different [SPEC]s about what caused the connection. Alas, 13 pages is a bit much so now that the connection is confirmed, we can spec the cause and nature of it here

Thought this might be a nice place to stick this. A decent [SPEC] from SuperMega over on Bungie.net.
Quote:
I believe this ILB stuff is working in real time. A day to us is a day to jersey. As time approaches November 9th the covenant invasion/destruction of earth grows ever closer. Regardless of who these people are (and I've talked about that extensively as well) I believe bungie is preparing us to defend earth.

They say on November 9th earth will never be the same. Bungie has also joked about building their army. Don't you see? ILB is building Bungie's army. Every day that passes, every phone we answer fills out our ranks, increases the hype, increases the excitement. Just how many people do you think ILB has added to the Halo fanclub? How much more excited are you because of what we've learned and have yet to learn?

On november 9th, we become the resistance, we defend earth. It's both cheesy and incredible that they would come up with something like this. I forsee that in the coming weeks we will learn more and more from these wav's and will feel the enemy approaching as time passes. We will live the destruction of earth through the lives of jersey, kamal, and jan. And in Halo 2, if these people don't die....we will see them in the game.

Bungie and ILB is preparing us for the most immersive, realistic, and brilliant story ever told in a game. Those of us who have been keeping track of this ILB "hype" will be so inveloped in the story that it will be hard to tell the difference between the real world and the halo world...because we will have spent 4-5 months following their lives through ILB.

Pretty nice spec! The Jan thread also made me feel that we are going to have a first hand account of the invasion. But what's the relationship of all this with Kamal and the casino? I mean, I know Durga is interested in Kamal and probably it has to do with her lost sister. But all the Aiden stuff seems pointless to this moment. Unless...

Ever since these last wavs there have been so many more in-game(ILB) Halo references. Bungie was very smart to keep that solidification out, letting the characters develop on their own, allowing non-Halo fans to connect with them first, while hinting just enough that us Halo fans all got involved.
Then Bungie connects our characters solidly to the Haloverse, putting them into the known timeline. Hearing live reactions from these "friends" of ours to the Fall of Reach is brilliant. It's a previously established event in the haloverse, but known previously only from the military point of view. Now we hear these civilians, our friends, reacting to it which hightens the emotional response.
There is still over a months time to further develop these characters and stories. Bungie has done so much with the intricacies of these story lines, I can't wait to see how they're all woven together and tie nicely right into the game. I know if I'm playing Halo 2 with a friend who wasn't a part of ILB and suddenly I see Jan James in game, I'm going to be glad I was a part of this (not that I'm not glad if she doesn't show up in game, I'm glad just to be playing! Very Happy )

that snippet there really puts it all in a nutshell... I had a feeling a while back that this was the lead in to Halo 2 (well, I think everyone did as soon as people started thinking ILB was in the Haloverse Razz)... but it's crazy to think that really with the timeline, the Apocalypso crashed before Halo:Combat Evolved... so we've got ilovebees showing the whole Halo story from another point of view... ilovebees starts, fall of reach ends (the book), halo starts, reach gets glassed in the same time (so the event occurs during Halo, at the end of book 1, during book 2, during ilovebees, and at the start of book 3), there's the period of time between reach's glassing and earth's war (described in ilovebees, and first strike, and during which the game occurs), and each story ends at the start of Halo 2. Halo 2 is the climax of this entire earth/covenant war...

Cool

I think this is exactly what's going on. I spec'd on this a few days ago here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=75201&highlight=differential#75201
Basically if Reach just fell (as we found from the 9/21 puzzle wav files), the events of Halo 1 are transpiring right now. And it looks like John-117 will be back to earth on the 9th of Nov. or so.

So then we should follow along with what the Master Chief is up to by playing Halo... is that what you're saying? Cool

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. Smile It would also serve to jog people's minds about everything that happened in the game. I for one, should play through it again.

[SPEC] I wonder if we will get some wavs that have info on the Master Chief/Cortana's progress and that they found a ringworld called Halo. After all, these audio files are being transmitted in "real-time" from the future. Seeing some of the characters responses to THAT, would be sweet.
[/SPEC]

Would make sense. Reach was destroyed Aug 30th 2552. Not exactly this week in the future, but really close.

Jan's pa seems to be gathering up his Spartan buddies. It'd be great to hear him mention Master Chief.

remember it took some time for the news to reach (ugh) earth... so it's quite possible up to 3 weeks transpired... I think... <shrug>

maybe now we'll actually get to see how much time transpired from the start of Halo to escaping Halo... (I'm sure it wasn't 6 hours Smile. we know it was 3 weeks between Halo's destruction and MC's return to the wreckage... (acc.to First Strike)
