 		Keep in mind that because of "Troy" or "GOM" (choose you reference) that we know the Apocalypso is near Earth.

So, did Jersey's dad hack Jersey's systems? Or someone else? Perhaps the Pious flea sent the Durga entity and is now monitoring the transmission and sending it back to the ILB flea?

Thanks for the kind words, DM.

I can imagine the SPDR is something that normally accompanies the Operator, a swiss army knife on eight legs who is there just in case the very worst happens and the Operator needs some reconstructing because she incurs some unforseeable calamity.

As to the Sleeping Princess, I haven't got a clue. I don't have any sense of who the Princess is/how she got caught up in this. I find the theories that she is an earlier version or backup for the Queen intriguing, but I feel like we don't have enough of the pieces to build solid speculation about the Princess. I don't understand her at all, and if she has the mind of a teenage girl, that's not unprededented for me Smile .

The other interesting thing to note is that the Jersey/Durga thread are the only clips that do not have the wind/rewind sounds except for the very beginning of the act, and the very end. Yup, totally agree with you - both of these facts seem to point to Jersey being the central focus. So now we've got Jersey (this future version of us) listening to Durga play back WAV files she gleaned off some police database or whatever (just like we're listening to Melissa play back WAV files she "intercepted" off some transmission) and piecing them together to form a story (just like we are). So, following the parallel... we'll find a really hot 17-year old at the end of all our cyber-stalking?? You mean *gasp* Master Chief is Samus Aran!? LOL

 		You can fit the SP into your theory if you consider her a failsafe Melissa instance, also carried along in case of calamity. She is obviously a very powerful AI, just immature. The queen was taken over by the flea because she was in a weakened state. Maybe the flea uses some "clone" command to force Melissa onto lesser hardware in order to subvert her power.

This same panning of Durga's voice occurs on exclusive_license at 20 seconds when Jersey gets up and on awful_fast when Jersey stands up at 27 seconds. Again, Jersey's voice doesn't pan but Durga's does (at 38 secs).

Listening to creepy again, I wonder if Jersey *knows* other people are listening to him because *he* is recording the messages and sending them out. Maybe he's just saying the whole "creepy" stuff to Durga to see if she detects his recording/transmissions or not.

Good catch! It definitely seems to have been done intentionally to make that point, and while it does open up the possibility that someone else is making the recordings, it still doesn't rule out Durga.

What's Durga has been doing is tapping into the chatternet to record and show Jersey conversations that are going on all over the place. She knows how to tap into them, and knows it's a good way to listen in on people.
Durga has probably been monitoring Jersey the same way this whole time. Jersey knows what she's capable of and maybe he suspects that she is monitoring him, and is testing her to see if she'll give herself away.

Then again, maybe it's someone else listening in. maybe it's someone else transmitting the recordings that Melissa is intercepting.

actually, while I blew off this theory previously... if taken with xnbomb's theory, it works well. Because you still have the same "reflection" issues. SP doesn't know what she was "before". That could also be explained by the space-time distortions of slipspace travel...

Hmm, okay, that's a distinct possibility as well.

Here's a question: do we know for a fact that Chatters are actually implanted in-body? Having not read the books, I don't know (are chatters even in the books?) In Trigeminal, the cop says "You, with the chatter... hands off" -- does this mean they are not implanted? Maybe just like a cellphone? So would it be always on? Didn't Aiden turn his off when he went to eat with Celine?

I know Kamal can use things other than Chatters to spy or ghost... but is it me, or does it turn out slightly "staticky" when he does this. But the recordings of Jersey and Durga sound quite clear...

I don't really know where I'm going with all this... just throwing stuff out before it clogs my poor head. ^_^

ok. I really like that whole idea! It ties everything in so nicely.

Edit: I see the Operator as 2 separate programming "modules" The intelligence and memory core. The intelligence is smaller and is the part of her she can send around in bits. The memory core is all her experience and well, memory.

how about this for the Sleeping Princess. She's the backup for the operator. She doesn't have the same memory core, just the intelligence programming. This makes her small enough to fit on a backup (I'm going to say chip for lack of better word) chip. If the Operator starts going crazy at the end of her 7 years, the crew can wipe out the Operator's intelligence programming and install the Princess to the memory core.

Slight alteration to your theory. Instead of The Operator sending a fragment of herself to Jersey's computer, the Flea tells her to send all of her. the Apacalypso was near Earth, so why not take advantage. The Flea probably know's he can gather much more intelligence using the full AI capabilities.

So, where the Operator goes, so goes her backup.

Same distortion caused by the crystal that you spec'd before. The Operator gets split into the two fragments, only the backup, being smaller, is able to remain whole, and winds up back in time with the portion of the Operator and the Flea. Only her "storage" encasing is damaged and she is able to free herself.

This also explains the hostility the Queen has towards the Princess. If the Queen is the Operator, she knows the only time the Princess would be coming out of storage is if Princess is there to replace her.

The Princess has all the intelligence of the Operator, but with no memory core. No experience, she's immature.

[Further SPEC] the Flea virus infests itself in the Operator's memory core and that's how he was able to gain control over her. Since the Princess has no core, the flea cannot infest her.

How's that?

So, assume just for the moment that you guys are right and this is really what happened... doesn't that mean that we should NOT help Melissa and instead try to help the SP "usurp" Melissa??

I picture the chatternet as a little earpeice that acts like as a communication device.
Actually, we're assuming that there's a microphone at Jersey's computer, enabling him to talk to Durga. He probably just uses his Chatter to talk to her.

hm, but then they both wouldn't fade even if he's walking around.

The only thing I can think is he's chatters to her, but she talks back through speakers on his computer. lemme think so more.

Actually, that's not so far fetched... he's playing the music off his speakers and not his chatter (isn't he?), so why not play Durga through the speakers as well? Wait, does the music pan? Lemme listen...

wow... hard to tell... but actually, to me, it DOES sound like the music is panning too. So maybe he just plays both the music and Durga through his speakers...
