Unless I get caught up at work and can't get away, I'll hit the 40th street library axon tomorrow.

I knew you'd stop lurking sooner or later. Razz

Barring inability to get out of bed, and with a bit of luck, I should be able to grab 6:39 (14th St), 7:11 (5th & 10th), and 7:23 (4th & Greene) tomorrow. I'm still not sure where the last one is, although I'm getting it narrowed down. I had time to kill today so I checked the two main NYU buildings (Silver and Waverly, for jeremo), and the only payphones in the whole place are on the first floor, on the hallway between the Silver and Waverly elevators. There are seven phones there, six of which worked today, and they all ring. I couldn't find any other phones near the coords, in lobbies of buildings or wherever, so if this isn't it, I'm not sure what is.

How go the other axons?

NYC axons

I've got mostly morning classes, so this round is tough for me. I might be able to grab one or two tomorrow, but it's gonna be tight.

oi.

0/3 this morning. Sad

The 14th St phone is being extremely wonky, but not quite broken. It doesn't ring on incoming calls anymore (or if it does, I couldn't hear it over the wet-street traffic, but I had my ear right up next to it when I tested it), and 4 times out of 5 you don't get a dial tone when you pick it up to make a call. I picked it up a few seconds after 9:39 just in case, and all I got was an error message from the phone company again. Hopefully it's just some sort of problem from the rain and not serious issues with the phone.

At Rubin, I met up with jeremo *waves* who's actually out of class in time to make the 10:11 call. The phone rang on cue, but the VR didn't recognize 'Apocalypso' despite his repeating it clearly, several times.

The Greene St phone still eludes us. We went to the bank of phones in NYU's Silver Building at Washington Pl between Greene and the park. The phone that was broken yesterday was still broken today, and there was a girl using another phone Mad so it's still possible that it's one of those.

I have a 9:30 class tomorrow but it should be review of stuff I already know, so I may skip it and make another try. I'd wait 'til Friday but I'm gonna be out late tomorrow night, so I doubt my ability to get up earlyish the next morning. I also realized I have a mini voice recorder, so when I do get these axons hot, I'll record the wav in case the file doesn't go up the same day.

1/1 today Smile

I wasn't originally planning on axon hunting today, I'm pretty busy at work...but the rain loused up the trains this morning, and I was transferring trains all morning trying frantically to get downtown. As my train was pulling into the 42nd St/Times Sq. stop, I glanced at my watch and it was 10:27. Then it dawned on me that the NY Times axon was going hot in 20 minutes...I leapt off the train, drawn to the axon like moth to flame. Waited around until it rang at 10:47, said "apocalypso" twice, voice recognized, AXON HOT.

(As an aside...I find it mildly amusing that, during my 3 visits to this axon, no one has ever said anything to me or even noticed I was there, hanging out in the lobby next to a pay phone....is the NY TIMES IN ON IT?!?!?)

Luckily everyone else in the office was late too so I was able to explain my extreme lateness on the rain Very Happy

I'll hit the Whitney Museum tomorrow afternoon if no one gets it today.

14th St is beginning to seem like a lost cause. I went again today, and the phone's doing the same thing. No ringer anymore, and if you pick it up when there happens to be an incoming call (e.g., when you call it from your cellphone), an automated message of "please wait, please wait, please wait" plays into the payphone. Tried inserting a quarter, no effect. So much for having a phone near the apt. Sad

I got 10th & 5th today, though. I don't have my tape recorder, so no wav of it, but we're one axon away from having the file go live.

The Silver building phone that'd been in use yesterday was free today, but didn't ring. I wish whoever it is that's gotten it the last two rounds would just get it now, 'cause I'm running out of ideas.

14th and 1st

i will try to get to the one for zip your shirt or whatever it is tomorrow morning. we seem to only need one for that and I will not let NYC be the team that let's us down. today wasn't possible for me but maybe sunday will be easier anyway. thanks for posting so that I know exactly where it is I would be worried about finding it otherwise- wish me luck. I hope the bodega sells coffee on Sunday mornings. Smile

Edit: Ok I went and didn't hear any rings, just a slight clicking noise. But I tried answering it and only heard a dial tone??? I tried answering it a few more times- I mean I picked up and replaced the receiver several times- but always the dial tone. Could I have answered the silly clicking sound too late? Maybe someone else can try this one tomorrow. If not and we don't have that wave yet, I will try again if I can, but tomorrow is a very busy day for me.

Upcoming axons (9/14):

6:09 PDT (40.804247 -73.966734): 110th St & Broadway. Still don't know where this one is.

6:17 PDT (40.701353 -74.012674): New Location. Lower Manhattan, appears to be in or around the Staten Island Ferry terminal. That could be good or bad. Luckily I work a couple of blocks from here, I can try it every morning until I get it Very Happy

6:21 PDT (40.807981 -73.963556): 116th St & Broadway. Same deal as the other Columbia area axon. So, 4 axons that we've had no luck with. /me shakes fist at PMs Evil or Very Mad

7:53 PDT (40.75201 -73.981868): NY Public Library, 40th & 5th.

8:37 PDT (40.699723 -74.038645): New Location. Ellis Island. The PMs have an odd sense of humor. "Sir, the tour is this way." "Oh, don't mind me I'm waiting for a phone call, I'll catch up with you later." I'll gladly buy lunch for anyone who gets this one.

10:49 PDT (40.7335 -73.995293): NYU freshman dorm - Rubin Hall, at 35 5th Ave. (corner of 10th St.)

11:13 PDT (40.729724 -73.995423): NYU area. We've gotten this one before, but now we can't find it Confused

11:41 PDT (40.757145 -73.98724): NY Times building, 43rd St between 7th & 8th.

13:13 PDT (40.773127 -73.97821): New location. 67th & Central Park West. Anyone wanna take a crack at this?

13:55 PDT (40.804247 -73.966734): 110th St & Broadway.

14:01 PDT (40.807981 -73.963556): 116th St & Broadway.

15:57 PDT (40.748415 -73.984813): New location. 34th & 5th, Empire State Building Shocked From what I recall there's a restaurant right where the GPS is pointing. Then again, knowing these PMs it's on the Observation Deck.

16:29 PDT (40.773359 -73.96416): Whitney Museum, 75th & Madison. I'd like to see how we're gonna get this one, considering the museum closes at 6pm Rolling Eyes

16:51 PDT (40.731895 -73.983688): 14th St betw. 1st & 2nd. We've been having lots of trouble with this one Confused

I'll be going for 6:17 (Ferry Terminal), and possibly 11:41 (NY Times) since I know it so well. Any volunteers for the others?

The Whitney Museum is open on Friday night until 9:00 which means someone could get it then. Let's wait and see if it is still needed by then to activate a needed axon.

As for Ellis Island and the Empire State Building - they are kidding right?
Between the security and the huge number of phones, not to mention the need for a boat to even reach Ellis Island, I don't know why they even bothered to include these.

I can check out the location on 67th street and CPW tonight when I am in the park and post about it tomorrow, but I can't be there at the right time.

As for 110th street, I think your idea that it is on the subway platform is the right idea. But I can't make any of those times.

This is starting to annoy me. But we must keep up morale Smile

I'm new

Hey, I'm brand new to this. I'd like to help though. I go to NYU and I'll be right near the 11:13 NYU axon tomorrow. I'll be in class...but its Anime class and we're watching Ghost in the Shell (apropos?), so its probably okay if I miss the begining.

Someone earlier thought it might be in the Bookstore and I think know where there's a payphone in there. Has this theory been tested?

Feel free to email or IM me.

I'll try and take the 67th and CPW phone, as well as the two immediately following it. Help is always appreciated. I'll check this and my PMs before I leave.

With regards,

Ian

Could you post the times (in PDT) and/or the co-ords of the axons you're going to hit? It makes it easier on the co-ordinaters if they know where people are going to be so that focus can be shifted to other, more pertinent areas.
Thanks

Cool, we have access to other people here in the city? It seems the zip one on 14th street can still be activated.

I can't make any of these times or locations. Sorry, but good luck to those who do!!!
