[SPEC] The Tower, The Mirror

If the behind the kitchen is a place we can reach, what do these represent? The Mirror might actually be a mirror of the website and files somewhere, that would suggest that the Queen is doing some file checking to notice changes, can we find the mirror? The tower is probably the transmitter/modem ect of the website.

I suspect that Kitchen was a clue. Where as the rest of her discriptions (Tower, Stairs, Mirror) are metaphorical (five syllables, phew, that one tuckered me out Wink ) and are just an attempt to convey her environment using the vocabulary she has had to work with.

Spiral Staircase in tower

Truegent, kitchen puzzle is solved:
Kitchen puzzle thread

"The only way up there is a pair of spiral staircases that wind around one another, with no rail and a very scary drop down the middle"

The winding spiral staircases sound like DNA, but the scary drop down the middle doesn't hold well to this as the middle of DNA is not hollow, but is filled by the matching base pairs. Still it could be a place to start as there are likely more than just the kitchen puzzle in this text!

Unfortunately, the first new Axon did not go hot.

Capital letters

The capitalized words in the new 404 text are:

NAME HERE HUGE WHEW YOU VERY INTERESTED

I have not been able to make anything of them yet. Any anagram experts around to take a crack at it?

Thanks, I am aware of that. I was diferentiating between the use of Kitchen as a clue and the others as NOT a clue. I guess I should have siad "I suspect that Kitchen is ONLY a clue."

I think it is quite possible that the message may contain more then one clue. The recipe1, 2 and 4 thing has been sitting there for awhile. I don't think it was just suddently done, I think the SP gave the hint because those Axons had been completely missed. I wonder what else has been missed.

Could the mirror possibly be the quarantined, restored pages? It would make a good mirror for Melissa ... comparing what was there before to what is there now.

Especially because, as I believe people have already noted elsewhere, the SP has recently begun writing her own code ... whereas before the code was just repurposed from the original ILB code. If the Queen is using the restored pages to keep track of what was in existence on the site ... then any change that she didn't make herself would point to the SP ... right?

Eh, just some wild spec on my part, I know...

Oh boy. Wow. Somebody in another thread mentioned the 'twisted pair' cabling that connects computers as a metaphor. Until I saw that, I couldn't envision what the metaphors were.

Let's do some free-association here. 'Room at the top of the tower.' Might be a router? Cable/DSL modem? Could it be the server itself? Perhaps the SP only lives on Dana's home computer, and the server is a different machine?

And the BIG CLUE is the GIANT MIRROR that has magically appeared. Perhaps we should ask SP about it...she's picking questions; hopefully if we ask questions about the mirror and she chooses one as one of her 'finalists,' we can vote en masse for whichever question concerns the mirror.

One problem with the theory of the Giant Mirror being a mirror for older ILB files is that the Queen was able to see SP behind her in the mirror. It is, of course, possible that SP jumped to conclusions and that the Queen actually heard her instead of seeing her in the mirror.

Ah, who needs definite answers anyway?

maybe we're supposed to use the files from the kitchen to break the mirror. Then SP would be able to spy on the queen.

There's a room up there and the Queen was in it: I could hear the hum and buzz of her. I knew she would be standing at the window, because that's nearly all she does these days.

The closest thing to a window that the Queen should have is Dana's webcam.

That's quite possible. The webcam is probably on top of Dana's monitor (based on the 404 pictures) which would make it higher than the rest of the PC. It could easily be a window, since the Operator proved she could see out of it (not much to see if Dana is gone but it is a window to stare out of). If it's a USB webcam, the only way to get there is through the USB cable. A USB cable is two sets of twisted pair - one for power/ground and one for signal/data. An electronic entity would likely have to travel up the data pair to get to the webcam.

I dunno exactly what that would make the mirror. I know that signal reflection is sometimes an issue in cables (this is why certain networking standards require the use of terminators) but I'm not sure how the queen could implement this.

Breaking a mirror brings seven years of bad luck too...

Mirror in the room

From any of the cleared up pictures of Dana from her webcam, can any mirrors be seen in the room, on a wall or anywhere?

Nevermind my above post. I just re-read the response to Paul and realized the mirror is something within the tower. I'm not too keen on this sorta stuff, but do webcams use mirrors in them as part of the picture-capture process?
