Updated axon listing with hot/cold readings. No live calls. The two MU phones aren't up; this non-English-speaking woman was using one, and Annette failed voice recognition on the other. Insert curse words here.

Got 'em. The 2 West Valley axons for this week (16:20 and 17:15) are hot. Both were recordings. None of the glitches I've heard others talking about, both were right on time.

For future ref, if anyone else gets to these, the Peoria axon (33.566497 -112.255090) is at the QuikTrip on the NW corner of 91st Ave and Olive. There are two payphones there, the one to the left of the front entrance is the one that rings. The Tolleson axon (33.450407 -112.255438) is at the Circle K on the NW corner of 91st Ave and Van Buren. There is a pair of payphones along the southern edge of the building, west of the entrance. The left payphone of this pair is the one that rings. I couldn't hear any ringtone when it went off, but the LCD readout said "Ringing - Please Pick Up." And get this one with someone else, if you can. You have no idea how uncomfortable it was being a lone geeky white boy standing in a ghetto part of town waiting to answer a gas station payphone. Smile

And I am so not the most awesome enhottenator. I've only gotten 3 axons, and then only because I happened to get off work a little early. The rest of you guys have been at this for weeks, skipping class and organizing teams and what not. And let's not forget getting your logo on national TV. I gotta give a big round of applause to all the work yall have been doing. Let's keep it up.

Thanks much, dude. There's always next week... or the week after that. No more, though.

Can you get the Peoria and Tolleson axons every week? If so, you're totally hardcore awesome.* If not, that's cool too.

*I'm tired so my adjectives suck

Thanks, man. As long as they stay at about the same time, and I don't get swamped with work on Tuesday afternoon /knocks on wood/ I definitely should be able to get them.

Stormy Axon Crew shouts out!

Hey there Wise Men! We here in Florida just wanted to say: Kickass job with the debate. We are proud and grateful that the Valley of the Sun is in such good hands.

Take Care!

Thanks muchly, (The) Ouroboros. Although we pretty much owned the debate, you guys have the potential to own the election... all eyes are on you, you crazy swing-staters. Hey, maybe you can get a bee message in Election Day or candidate rally media coverage... I can just see a Sunshine State Bee popping up behind Jeb Bush's head. Laughing

For the record, I just found out today that the ASU Bee made it on screens worldwide - I got a LiveJournal comment from a guy in the UK who thought he was hallucinating when he saw the sign come on an internationally broadcast CNN feed. Awesome. Very Happy

[expletives deleted], though, what do we have to do to get some live calls? I don't know if we're Melissa's "favorite" anymore, and that's totally not something I even care about - we're comparatively lazy enhottenators, next to the DC subway hunters and the infamous Hurricane Guy - but daaaamn, Melissa, we're loyal and dedicated crew!

In not-really-but-kind-of-related news: if Melissa/Durga chose to throw the 2004 election, which candidate would she go for? It's a very important issue these days, and I hope you all have enough of a sense of civic duty to go voice your opinion. Wink

Perhaps a bit late, but... maybe it would be a good idea to print up some stickers and "tag" the payphones that melissa uses? It could take out some guesswork for sure.

As far as Mel's candidate? Seeing her attitudes on pre-emptive uses of force, I think we have our answer. Neutral Beyond that I'm keeping my mouth shut before I get into trouble!

I've only been able to scope out the Mills phones once, and we missed whatever ones rang. I'm pretty sure the bank by the movie theater (at the north of the mall) rings, but other than that, I'm pretty confused as to where the banks actually are.

We did some after-the-fact scouting and decided the following banks were most likely to ring:
  • Movie theater (6 phones)
  • Sunglass Hut (3)
  • PacSun/KB Toys (4)
  • Big Dog Sportswear/Al Zuni Jewelers (3)
  • Information kiosk, MasterCuts, Mrs Fields, etc. (4)

Here's a really good hi-res PDF map of the mall. Attached is a badly Photoshopped transposition of my crappy hand-drawn map onto where these phone banks most likely are.

Christ, I'm spammy today. This has been posted in like three other threads but I figured I'd put it here.

You know how I recommended people vote for who they thought Melissa/Durga would elect president? No? Then go vote.

Anyway, for those following the Jersey/Durga ticket, I made this bumper sticker:

All profits go to Bees for Development, a UK-based charity whose philosophy is "to assist people living in poor and remote areas of the world, and to raise awareness about the value of beekeeping for poverty alleviation, as well as the role of bees for the maintenance of biodiversity."

Sounds like our kind of charity! Very Happy

Re axons at Malls - I spec they tend to be near the food court, based on experiences in Georgia and elsewhere (Cape Cod? New Jersey?). But no guarantees.

Yeah, the movie-theater axons are right near the food court area. The shape of the food court, though, makes it so there are no phones actually in the area - each surrounding wall is purely storefront, with no little indentations for bathrooms, phones, or little back-room alcoves for store access. So phones in the food court don't exist.

I would agree with your assessment, though, simply because MapQuest GPS puts the little stars on that area of the mall. Admittedly I know that doesn't always mean anything - as long as the coordinate's in the building, the phones could be anywhere - but the presence of two slightly different coordinates in that northwest corner of the mall supports your theory, and supports our spec of those phones.

So!

The morning ASU axons are actually awesome for me. I can't get the 2:00 or 2:26 ones, but Ens. Annette can get the latter. I assume Cmdr. Pegasus will be divvying up the assignments among us two as usual, especially since he'll have extra time to do so this weekend Razz As for me, I'm out until laaate saturday night, so those of you who have my, um, personal chatter (did I just say that?) can contact me there.

Re: the Mills axons: I am a little wary about ditching my EDT 321 class again, so those are a no-go. I don't know about anyone else's schedule, but maybe these work better for those of you who, you know, have jobs Wink

Arizona hunters unite! Let's make it 100% hot this week!

Once again everything has changed, including the two I posted about earlier. Check it.

I think I can make the 2:00 axon... not that I'm going to skip class or anything... Rolling Eyes Since it's the only axon time that hasn't changed, and that there are several others scheduled for that time, I'm going to agree with Bob's "conference-call" theory. This means someone has to be there. And I'm not confident enough in Bob finishing his test in six minutes, no matter how 1337 he may be (which is pretty leet.) So screw it. I'll be there, at least for Bob's backup or vice-versa.

If anything changes, anyone, let me know. Is anyone up for getting Mills this week? What about Cork 'N Cleaver? Fenwicked, are you getting Peoria and Tolleson?

Tolleson looks good. Peoria's way iffy though. I just don't think I can get away from work that early. I will try for it, but if anyone else can get Peoria today, that would be great.
