Assignments are up. My, um, schedule realignment has enabled me to at least be available to get every ASU axon, although Brian will be getting most of them with/for me.

Thanks so much, Fenwicked. You're dedicated! AZ Mills is still up in the air, amirite everyone?

Hey Gang:

1st Mate Bean here. I live in Avondale and have been hitting the AZ mills axons since they first started. I was never able to get them all by myself but I was able to get a live call out of it about three weeks ago at one of the phones across from the IMAX. Today I won't be able to get over there but I will be taking my personal call and also hitting the Tolleson axon which is near my home. I've been getting that one since the beginning too. I may have met some of you at the Paradise Valley axon at Cork & Cleaver. I was there on the first day of axons as well as stopping by the ASU campus for a couple of those. Oh well just thought I'd check in. Let me know if I can help any other way.

A live call? Whoa! You should've posted here before! Awesome Smile

Have I met you before? I seem to remember some ASU axons mysteriously going hot during the first few weeks they were up. If that was your doing, that's awesome. And I'm glad to hear you're the one who's been reliably getting the Tolleson one, other than Fenwicked.

Can you get the Peoria one today? That's the one no one can get to atm.

Also, stay tuned for news of our live call... it's insane. I think Lt Cmdr Brian is going to be posting about it soon, so hold tight. Smile

Well, I've gotta come in early tomorrow morning, but I managed to talk my way out of here at about 3, so Peoria's taken care of. And I'll head down to Tolleson too. Never hurts to have too many enhottenators.

I knew there was something special about that 2 o' clock axon. Unless I'm mistaken, it's the only new location AZ's had in a while. Wish I coulda been there, but my work schedule didn't even come close to allowing it.

It wasn't the 2:00 axon, though, weirdly. Just got that one and it was recorded, like all others but one. The live axon was the 12:06 one, the first MU axon. Lt Cmdr Brian, Ens Annette and I all submitted phone numbers, so I don't know if 12:06 will be live next week (this Sunday, I presume) but whatever. There's a lot of info from our live call, so a full report is coming soon!

I think the quote was "you're my most trusted team"... ^__^

Live calls? exxxxceellllent. I figured that Melissa would want to chat with her propaganda team eventually. I was able to hit C&C today, but alas no live call. Can't wait to hear about it.

Crap on a stick. I missed Peoria by like 5 minutes. Fortunately, "frumpy" was unlocked despite my horrible failure.
Got Tolleson though. Just barely, there was a guy on the phone when I got there. He hung up right at 5:07, and the axon started ringing as he was turning and walking away. If that phone made any sound when it rang, he probably would have answered it and ruined everything.
Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

Live Call Recap (Team Myriad Wise Men)

So today, fielding my first call in at least two weeks, I got our team's first live call. Sorry that this is so long, but I was/am pumped about being ranking officer on our first live call. So here's what happened:

Answer phone, it's the standard schtick. I mouth to g3k, "Not live."

Answer question, then, "What's your name?"
Mouthing: "Holy sh*t! It's live, it's live!"
"Lt. Commander brian."

Go through the name thing, etc. Tell her I'm there with Lance Corporal g3k and Ens. Annette, of Team Myriad Wise Men.

This is the part where it gets embarrassing. She asks if we have a cheer; I respond no. She says to make one up. g3k, assuming that we're dealing with the SP, says it should be "I say chocolate, you say pancakes [etc.]". A fine cheer, but we're talking to Melissa. I suggest a more serious tone, and fail miserably. I said, "It doesn't have our name in it. How about 'chocolate wise men.'" Terrible, terrible failure. We go with it, but we're all so off-guard (this being our first live call) that it's unenthusiastic at best. She tries very hard not to act severely disappointed: "It's good, but a little obtuse."

This is where the audio file I have of our half of the conversation kicks in. Tell her that Cmdr. Pegasus was "called away on another mission," or brianspeak for, "He's in class."

She then goes well out of her way to ask about the sign thing with CNN/MSNBC. I botch my description; she asks for g3k, and mentions, "You're my most trusted team." He does better, even managing to use the impressive phrase "stealth skills," emphasizing both that the broadcast was international and that security was terrible there [and it was]. I spent the whole time cursing about 'chocolate Wise Men'.

From here, she proceeded to tell g3k about the Sunday transmits. I'm not really sure what was said on her end. Phone goes back to me; I give her my number. Then she asks for the relay code: "You have 90 seconds."

Sh*t! "Sam, get a hold of the guy [Angelo]. We have 90 seconds." Laptop changes hands, I freak out, and g3k calls Angelo.

g3k: "Hey Angelo…we need it in like 30 seconds, what is the new one?" [hand off phone to g3k] Gratuitous compliments and promises of servitude to Melissa follow the pass phrase, "He had nothing…at 12:06".

Phone to brian. Here's where the convo gets interesting:
Melissa: "What do you think about Jan?"
brian: "Right now, she seems like…she's a loose cannon."
Melissa: "What do you mean?"
brian: "She wanted vengeance for her father, but when she had the opportunity to take it she didn't. That kind of inconsistency strikes me as odd."
Melissa: "Why do you think that she was unable to kill him?" [or some equivalent; I only remember my response to it]
Brian: "It's possible she was attached to some kind of moral code…or perhaps she didn't feel like it was her place to judge another person."
Melissa: "Do you think she could be used in further missions?" [same note as above]
Brian: "Possibly. But I would make the parameters of her mission such that she couldn't fail in that way again." Slam dunk.
Melissa: "I like your analysis. You know how to push people's buttons. Let me talk with Ens. Annette."

Annette is asked about Kamal; despite prompts from g3k, it does not go well. She defers the call to him. He proceeds to question Annette's emotional stability, and gives a decent answer focused on Kamal's medical abilities. His weakness? "People that are close to him." Nice. Phone comes back my way.

Melissa: "Brian: I may be going home soon. Can you operate on your own?"
Brian: "Our commander is Cmdr. Pegasus. He is more than capable of leading us in the field, as well as g3k and I are able to take command if necessary. So, yes."

Rampant praise for our team, responded to with much thanks.
"You'll have to see that my crew doesn't disappoint me." [Click.]
"That's it."

LOL awesome post.

Annette's forgiven me, luckily... sometimes thinking on your feet ends up shoving one of them into your mouth. Also the SP thing... I'm sad I'm never going to be able to talk to her... Sad If only it'd been her like I initially thought. Sigh.

I'm excited about our being the "most trusted team" as well. I'm not even sure that was the exact phrase, but, you know, /me starts chanting "we're #1!" Melissa has personal numbers for Brian, Annette and me, so that should be interesting as well.

But I'm really pumped for Sunday because I think we're going to have a Feast for Bees at Cork 'N Cleaver that night. Of course, I'm going to need a little more money, cos I have about $20 to my name right now, and I hear that place isn't cheap.

So, um, I know I'm going to appear... insane... for this, but the reason that I'm broke is because I'm going to San Francisco on Nov. 4 for "Combat Training Exercises".

I thought it was worth the rest of my summer job money, you know? Wink

Feel free to attack my very sanity. But it's a done deal. I've got the ticket receipt in front of me. I'm going. Smile

I'm not sure if we met or not. I was at ASU axons the first week they went up but then my work schedule changed. But I was able to get over to the Mills in time for like three or four weeks running. I would always get the four in a row rings at phones acrossed from the IMAX. When I got my live call I was still finishing up another call and just reached over and picked up that phone when it rang. Two at once. Sorry I wasn't able to help more today but I was at the hospital with a family member who was having open heart surgery. I got my personal call but that was it. Today was the first time I saw that we have an Arizona cordination thread. Dang I wish I would have seen it sooner. I'm going to miss this when it's all over. Hey are we going to have a Myriad Wise Men clan?

lol. if by "clan" you mean "group of AZ people getting together to play Halo 2", then no. I honestly don't know anyone who owns an Xbox. :-/

If by "clan" you mean "group of AZ people getting together to answer payphones, do weird shit in public, and be generally awesome," then, yeah. If you show up on Sunday, we'll make you an honorary Wise Man. Wink

What the crap. You college folk have no money do you? Can't buy an Xbox and can't really afford Cork & CLeaver. Don't tell me you are going to do a dine and dash. Smile I will try my best to be there on Sunday but no guarantees. However, I know that we are coming up on a crucial point here. According to the text on contact me page, Melissa IS going home and we will be operating on our own in order to finish this. In order to contact me for help when we coordinate Sunday and next Tuesday, feel free to use my email address barakskinnerSPLATjuno.com.

Sounds good. In all honesty, if it's not too meta for you, I'd be glad if you PM'd me (or emailed: g3kg3kSPLATgmail.com) your cell number, if you have one. That was invaluable today during the live call, for the ninety-second passphrase challenge. THANK YOU ANGELO, by the way. Couldn't have done it without you.

And I'd have had money if I weren't dumb enough to buy a $200 plane ticket to San Francisco :-/

Chocolate? Confusion.

Well, have fun. And it sounds awesome. Oh, and take a jacket or two - SF wasn't too warm in the summer, and this ain't summer.

For the first time, we got the full set the first day. Too bad it's probably nearly over. I was really starting to get used to the picking up of the payphones.

And now, an anecdote.

And I was sitting here a few nights ago, working, when I see my cell phone go off on the desk (headphones, so I don't hear it go off.) I glance at the number, because there's no phone book entry to go along with, and the area code is 773. I immediately think, "How did Melissa get this number..." and I gingerly pick it up, and then it percolates through that it's not 777, but I'm still thinking "Bees?".. "Hello?" "Hello, is *name that isn't me* there?" "No, I'm sorry, you must have the wrong number." I hang up. It's only about then that I go, "That couldn't have been everyone's favorite AI..." Ah, what one-track minds...

"Most trusted team." Rock on guys.

That Feast for Bees sounds like a good time. You guys wouldn't mind one more geek joining in, would you? Smile

First Mate Bean, don't worry at all. This is fun and everything, but real life always takes precedence. Best wishes for your family member, I'll be praying for you and them.
And I'd definitely be in for an AZ beekeeper sort of clan. Even if there's not a clan, I'll be playing H2 on Live. My gamertag's Fenwicked (surprise, surprise) feel free to look me up.
