[META] Chicago Combat Training Exercise Coordination

Alright everyone headed to Illinois! Lets organize! My problems, and surely some of yours, are the following:

1. Dont want to drive down there alone (im 4 hours away in Grand Rapids, MI)

2. Dont want to arrive early with nothing to do (ill leave early just in case of traffic)

3. Nothing to do when the event is done (im driving 4 hours there, for 3 hours of whatever, and 4 hours back... 8 hours of driving for 3 hours of whatever? id rather hang out down there for a while)

4. No where to stay afterwards (in case im tired as hell from whatever we do)

Anyone with similiar problems.... well, post, i guess, but lets get some solutions!

*edit*
also! on irc.chat-solutions.org, join #ilb-IL for some chatting about it.

EDIT - moved to Axon Coordination from Interaction - SG
EDIT - Normalize topic - AnthraX101

I Live in: Joliet
Joliet is: 40 minutes south of Chicago, area of Aurora, Naperville, Bolingbrook

I can: provide a ride along the way, maybe slightly out of the way for 2 people. MAYBE 3.

I can also help out of towners maybe find things to do, -maybe- find a place for one of you guys to hole up for the night, but it wont be at my place, we'll have to see if any of my northern friends would be willing to take someone on.
EDIT I have procured a 90% of a yes from a good friend of mine to allow crash space in Aurora IL on thursday night to 1 or 2 people. Join the chat room to talk this over with the rest of the attendees, and we will sort out specifics later. Thanks.

So, no definite answers, but Im here, and Im going, priority admittance or not.[/b]

I don't suppose anyone is passing through Pittsburgh on the way? I'll chip in on gas of course.

Heck, we'll even make you an honorary GPAA member! How can you turn that down?

I'm basically five miles north of Detroit, so I will have fun with the ride. I actually seem to have my car filled already. My friends totally pounced on the idea. I was surprised.

Well, i'm in Kansas City, and i just wanted to see if any St. Louis folk were driving up there, in which case i would drive to STL and try to hitch a ride for the rest of the way. Anyone who can help let me know!

I'm in Detroit (Livonia to be specific), and though I'd prefer to carpool, myself, I do have a small truck in which ONE person could fit (unless someone wanted to make the November ride in back, on the freeway, heh). I haven't figured out where I'm staying or when I'll get back, so just keep that in mind. Smile

Also I don't know exactly when I'm leaving except probably between 2 and 3, so I'll be getting there either just before reservation or right before "pre-loading" for crew ends. Smile

My usual Halo buddy doesn't want to go - he was never into ILB, and he would rather play Halo 2 alone, the first time. *shrugs*

My husband and I are coming from Cincinnati, but unforunately we can't fit anyone else in our car. Just some tips though:

I grew up in Palatine, which is right outside of Schaumburg (actual axon location). This thing is going to take place either at or right next to Woodfield Mall. Woodfield is the 3rd largest mall in the US (I think. It used to be the largest), and there's MORE than enough to keep you occupied there for awhile. There's also a Portillo's hot dog place pretty close to the mall, which is where my husband will want to visit first. For local hotels, I recommend the La Quinta. I've stayed there several times and it's a very well-kept hotel.

Ummm...any questions?

d

How long does it take you to get there? I also thought it'd be at the mall nearby, makes sense to have it near there. Oh yeah, our Minnesotan Mall of America is the biggest in the US, lol Very Happy Thanks for the hotel recommendations!

I will be there! I am in the DeKalb area (NIU). So if there are any other 'Huskies' out there, i'll be more then willing to carepool out there with ya.

I am going to print this out and tape it to my door so i remember!

i'm an idiot

fact: knoxville, TN to shaumberg, IL = greater than 9 hours by car

opinion: i think its worth it Cool

i know, i'm a moron. if you'd like to convince me that i shouldn't go, please do. however, i don't see an opportunity to do something cool like this happening again and i've done worse drives before. 9 hours is right at, if not right above the limit... i'd say. one fortunate thing is that it will only effectively take 8 hours on the way up because i'm chaning time zones! Confused

other reasons i'm choosing to go are that my family lives in chicago, i absolutely love the city, and i don't really think i'll be upset if it doesn't turn out to be something amazingly cool.

heh... ok, well... yeah. just wanted to let you know.

ps: in my opinion, i don't think this will be halo 2 multiplayer... i mean, comon, we'll all be getting halo 2 5 days from november 4th. i think this might just be how the game ends... an in-game gathering. so cool. even if it is halo 2 multiplayer, i'd get to meet all you fine beekeepers and play some halo 2... so no loss!

9 hours? is that all... I'm going for 12.

I agree completely though. I really don't care what we end up doing (I'm sure it will be great), I just want to hang out with everyone that's called me these last few weeks.
