It seems like a reference to the Queen as a little girl. Remember "mirror mirror on the wall" and the Queen's vainess. Also the Queen/Melissa IS lost in a way.

Yes, the mirror quote threw me as I'd been thinking that Perdita was a reference to the Princess. Remember, she's lost too, and can't find her way home.

However, if this is an allegory on Melissa's conundrum, the "clockwork rat" may be a reference to the Flea. We'll know if the clockwork rat gives dubious advice next time we get a chapter of the story.

I agree the next chapter will shed some light on where she is going with this. But what I find most interesting is that she prefaces the story with 'this isn't a puzzle' (not verbatim, too lazy to look it up).

I wonder why she would say that. Maybe she's worried the queen is on to her little games?

RE:[UPDATE]new 404, second round of questions answered (6/3)

They are all references to "little girl lost" stories, like "yellowbrickroad.html" and "lookingglass.html".

FYI

Barouche--a four-wheel fancy carriage with a fold-up hood at the back and with two inside seats facing each other. It was the fancy carriage of the first half of the 19th century.

How about this:

Perdita is Mellissa. The balloons are the messages she was intercepting. In the processing of gathering the messages she became lost. She is now leaving her balloons (the axons) so we can help her find her way home.

Pluck is capitalized, is there a reason why? Or is it just for emphasis.

From dictionary.com:
Pluck:
n.
# Resourceful courage and daring in the face of difficulties; spirit.
# The heart, liver, windpipe, and lungs of a slaughtered animal.

From google:
Pluck is an RSS reader.

Just because.

Yeah, what's up with the "this is not a game..." could it be the PM's trying to save us from going stir crazy here if it takes two weeks for the next part? Should we really be looking for baloons yet (I know we will anyway).

Also, the "I will die before I go back in [the coffin]." Anyone else get a little shiver when they read that?

The leaving balloons thing happens with stones and bread crumbs in Tom Thumb.

I lean more towards Perdita being Melissa then anything. Also because of the vainess of looking in the mirror all day.

Too bad the Axons don't make a nice staight line.

What if we plot Coordinates that have phones missing. After all, ballons can either fly away or become deflated after time.

The circus seemed very electronic to me, as did her parents jobs. The ballons, LEDs??

Not a bad theory. Nope. Not even a little bit.

I found that also interesting and dig a little more (why has to be capitalized?).

pluck

Lyrie \Ly"rie\ (l[imac]"r[i^]), n. [Icel. hl[=y]ri a sort of fish.] (Zo["o]l.) A European fish (Peristethus cataphractum), having the body covered with bony plates, and having three spines projecting in front of the nose; -- called also noble, pluck, pogge, sea poacher, and armed bullhead.

Hmm, more fishy issues. maybe SP's second name is Lyrie?

I did a google search but I could only find this (in russian). pretty interesting lyrics when translated but I believe its just a red herring. Don't waste to much your time there.

I guess there is a song out there called, "Politically Lying, Unholy, Cowardly Killers" which happens to have the acronym PLUCK.

Its a System of a Down song

Quote:
P.L.U.C.K. (Politically Lying, Unholy, Cowardly Killers)
Elimination, Elimination, Elimination
Die, Why, Walk Down, Walk Down
A whole race Genocide,
Taken away all of our pride,
A whole race Genocide,
Taken awaym Watch Them all fall down.
Revolution, the only solution,
The armed response of an entire nation,
Revolution, the only solution,
We've taken all your shit, now it's time for restitution.
Recognition, Restoration, Reparation,
Recognition, Restoration, Reparation,
Watch them all fall down,
Revolution, the only solution,
The armed response of an entire nation,
Revolution, the only solution,
We've taken all your shit now it's time for restitution.
The play was mastered and called Genocide
(Never want to see you around)
Took all the children and then we died,
(Never want to see you around)
The few that remained were never found,
(Never want to see you around)
All in a system Down.....Down.....Down.....
Down.....Walk Down.....
(Watch them all fall down)
Revolution, the only solution,
The armed response of an entire nation,
Revolution, the only solution,
We've taken all your shit, now it's time for restitution,
The plan was mastered and called Genocide
(Never want to see you around)
Took all the children and then we died,
(Never want to see you around)
The few that remained were never found,
(Never want to see you around)
All in a system, Down~

but I think this has nothing to do with the SP. However if your name were Stretch Armstrong, you could make a connection.

There are to many interesting things on SP's story.

First we got this:

SP wrote:
One day, the Circus came to town. The father decided to take the whole family there, even though they didn't have very much money. So off they went to see the Glass-Eater and the Broken Lady and the Electric Weasels for which this particular circus was known.

First wild unfounded specs:
Glass_Eater = Aiden
Broken Lady = Sophia
Electric Weasels = Kamal & Hiroyuki

Then we got the Luminous Barouche. That could be a reference to a ship. But there's no indication for that.

SP wrote:
Perdita saw a balloon salesman selling beautiful bouquets of balloons. The balloons came in extraordinary colors—firelight-on-steel was one, the green of a heaving sea another. Perdita was fondest of the red ones: cheerful balls of bright blood red with long strings that bounced and tugged up against your hand exactly like hope.

balloons = planets or races
firelight-on-steel = Forerunner or Covenant
he green of a heaving sea = Flood
cheerful balls of bright blood red = human colonized planets (the unhinibited expansion of the human race and the reason the Covies want to get us).

jolly salesman (whose face was as round and red as one of his balloons) = ¿The castaway?

SP wrote:
But by the time she finished making her choices, she realized that the salesman had traveled far, far away from the fairgrounds. Clutching her bouquet of balloons, Perdita ran and ran all the way back to the Circus, but when she got there the grounds were empty and the gates were shut.

Circus = Earth
Maybe being empty and with the gates shut is a reference to time travel to a time when Earth hasn't developed enough to receive her (ie. our time)

SP wrote:
Besides being very beautiful and rather vain, Perdita was a brave and resourceful girl. She decided she would find her own way home, even though she wasn't quite sure how to get back to the humble tin-cutter's cottage.

resourceful girl = Mellisa taking over ILB.com?
the humble tin-cutter's cottage = a ship/planet?

Ok, I think I overstreched a little and I have nothing to backup anything.

EDIT: On second read, My own specs contradict themselves. Disregard them.

That was the way it worked last time, i.e.:
