7:51 axon

Early morning update from San Francisco (Iam not a morning person):

7:51 - HOT
Got my ass up before the sun, took BART into the city. Luckily it's a "Spare the Air Day" (whoever thought of that phrase should be shot) and BART is free before 9am. Get to the phone, with 10 min to spare. I'm noticing it's unusually quiet for Market street, then I realize it's like super early for me. The set of phones is on Market St. right by the CompUSA. The southwest facing phone rings. Now the hard part is over. I was worried it was the phone up the block just a ways with the earpeice broken off. Same deal, "What ship are you assigned to?" "Apocalypso." Then I get to hear the "very_lucky" audio file. Now it's active, go download it. Mornings suck.

Reporting in from Charlotte.

08:51 (tweaked_up) - HOT
The coordinates put it in Discovery PLace, which was closed, but I hopped a block down and waited at the next phone and it was the one. Skin of my teeth.

09:07 (skin) - COLD
Did everything , except it didn't recognize my "Apocalypso". I must have been repeating it too fast. Skin is active anyway. WooHoo!!

OK Axon connected

New to this answering phones bit, not many in oklahoma...

Located the Your_Fault 4:41 payphone yesterday. It was in a small restraunt entrance. My buddy and I arrived a little early (about 40 minutes to be exact) just to be sure we could find it. Just happened to go out to my car and saw a guy pull up with a bumper sticker that read "There's no place like 127.0.0.1", I immediately knew there would be at least one other beekeeper there with me Wink .

Everything went per usual. The operator came on, asked what ship I was on and then after receiving the password played the file back. We repeated it a few times so both of us could hear then parted company.

The file seemed to be Kamal talking with Sophia (it was a bit hard to hear so it could of been another guy and gal...). He spoke of his mother and specifically how she died of some disease. Then the female reasured him with the not your fault.

Hello everyone:

Okay, I got up early to and got the Tolleson Arizona axon hot at 6:13PDT. I then came home and have been working on getting the Ketchikan Alaska axon hot. I like challenges. I have contacted several game stores, blockbusters and newspaper and radiostations in the area to let them in on our little game. I found that the payphone is in front of Talbot's Building Supply 1101 S. Tongass Ave. in Ketchikan and have passed that on to the citizens of Ketchikan along with the important details they will need to get that axon hot. Let's see how they do. I have informed them.

You did tell them that there are actually 2 axons to be gotten in Ketchikan

13:09 = 55.347676, -131.664576 (the one you found)

AND

15:35 = 55.34482, -131.65011 (on the corner of Stedman St. and Dock St.)

Just thought I'd point this out.

I just realized that there's a problem with this axon this week...

The Museum of History is closed after 5pm, and this is set to ring at 5:55pm. I can't manage enough "social engineering" to get this one answered!

(hey, does anyone know anyone that knows anyone.... Wink )

I posted this spreadsheet in the General/Updates section, but I thought it would be useful here too.

I spent some time this morning compiling all of the axons so far so we can easily see the status of them for each area (i.e. LINKS, HIVEKUTS, FABLE, etc.)

I hope some of you find this useful.

Hello again:

Just an update on getting the axon in Katchikan Alaska hot. I found the number for the closest Bolckbuster video store to the pay phone. I called and asked if anyone there was familiar with the XBOX game HALO. The manager said that only one of her employees new anything about video games. She said that's all he does. He doesn't work again though until Friday night. I think if we contact this guy he might be able to get that axon hot. Let's all call him and make him see how important it is. The nubmer to the store is 1-907-225-3613. Again let's call him this friday night and inform.

Hi, I'm new to this forum - I've been following the ilovebees.com stuff and a friend happened to let me know that there were some axons where I live (albuquerque, new mexico), which happen to be at the university I attend, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Apparently someone else here is connecting axons too, so since they all seem pretty easy to find, we should have them all activated soon. Here are a couple of reports, for fun.

9:53 winning: HOT - The map I found put the coordinates outside by the duck pond, but the closest pay phone turned out to be right outside of my classroom for my 11:00 class (we're one hour ahead of PDT), so I just waited out there until class started, and sure enough, it rang. Mission accomplished! I told my sister and some friends in my class about it, and they all thought the whole thing was crazy, but cool. ;P

11:17 thin_kinkle: HOT - This one was in the Student Union Building, so there were actually three banks of pay phones around, and only my sister and I to watch them. Luckily, I chose the right one and got it connected. Unfortunately, the Student Union was having some live music in the building, so I couldn't hear much of the message at all...

I've got the last 4 axons here on campus marked down for tomorrow, when I don't have any classes, so since most of them are in groups that aren't 5/5 yet, hopefully that will help. ^^

11:59 gone hottentot. Quick in, quick out, with a quick stop at the handy Starbucks for iced tea.

As a side note, I have hopefully arranged for 14:01 to go hot. Even if it doesn't, I'm pretty sure this is the right phone and will be back sometime before it stops ringing to activate it.

<storytime>
The coordinate is right at the main entrance of Angels Stadium in Anaheim. I had hoped it would be at the restaurant across the street, but no dice. The hostess said the closest payphone was at the gas station up the street. She was, thankfully, wrong.

At the parking kiosk type things right at the entrance, there is a lone payphone (that's like a superhero name ...the Loooooooone Paaaaaayphone! sorry, too much caffeine). Luckily, during the middle of the day when there's no game, it doesn't cost anything to go in. There were a couple of older gentlemen of the groundskeeping persuasion chatting in the exit kiosks. I stopped and asked them if they knew if that phone rang yesterday around 2. They didn't know, but they said sometimes people from a nearby restaurant come by and use it.

I convinced them I was on a scavenger hunt where you answer payphones instead of getting weird items, and asked them if they'd be so kind as to answer it for me and tell the recording my 'team name' (Apocalypso, natch) when it asked about a ship. They seemed amused and happy to do it. So, if 14:01 goes hot today, we have them to thank. If it doesn't, I will try to swing by tomorrow or on the weekend.

I'm close to the one at NC State'c campus and I have been trying for the past two days to get it active.

Today she asked "what ship are you assigned to?"
I responded "Apocalypso"

and she said that wasnt the right answer. I dont know if I pronounced wrong or something. Oh well there is always tomorrow.

Flashbolt, that's the right answer - we think some of the calls are intended to fail at least at first. So go back tomorrow. It should work.

I was at the 12:27 s_typhi axon two days running. I answered the call both times. Both times I was not recognized.

[SPEC] Could be the phone itself. I would need a partner to test the quality of the phone. [/SPEC]

/me cross posts this to the SF coordination page, please excuse the cross posting. Embarassed
