Great job dish! I just have one question. How the heck did you do that so quickly? I'm guessing you used some type of proggy. I was trying to attack it manually, so maybe I'm just dumb.

edit: This is my 50th post!

Great work! once again, i am just a bystander, following your trails. I noticed just a few spots where 'o' should be 'z': realioed and craoy, for example.

Dangit cath, you beat me to it!

I was just about to point this out for the sake of completeness... however, I'm pretty sure I didn't make an error. Though it's possible, I'm guessing it's either PM error, or some kind of bizarre clue with O and Z.... OZ? Who knows....

Replace our alphabet up the grid and you get "be careful txt which leads to

http://www.ronsworld.org/becareful.txt

Could you elaborate a bit on how you got from the sales report to this answer??? Thanks.

I noticed there were 26 lines running up the y axis of the graph, starting at the bottom line I wrote the letters of the alphabet one on each line. I then used the points that were already plotted on the graph to spell out the message, using only the replaced alphabet letters from the y axis. There was a mistake, the fourth point was on the "b" line instead of the "a" line, which I corrected when I entered "becareful.txt to the url. Hope that makes sense.

Amazing stuff. But, where did he hide CD#3?

He implied that he has it with him. I wouldn't worry about getting the actual CD, it sounds like our problem is going to be the password.

Crying or Very sad I missed Ron's triumphant return while I was tucked up in bed Crying or Very sad

Oh well, I'm off to offer him a place to stay just in case he fancies flying over to Scotland Wink

Good work.

Something I don't believe has been noticed before:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The first letters of the words in the text on the salesreport page read: find and replace

Which makes sense since the result of the solve of salesreport was a message where we had to do exactly that.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Find the message, and replace the letters.

Actually, I'm guessing Ron chose 'z' as the first letter in the replacement chain, thinking it wouldn't show up in the message at all, and there wouldn't be any such errors. Since VIM would have no way of telling the difference between 'z' being used for code and 'z' just being used normally, it replaced all of them with 'z'.

I think I have a clue on the password:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The previous two passwords were "metus" and "insania". Going on this, I did a thesaurus lookup on both, and compared entries. Both seem to have the common synonym of "phobia". If theres anyone who's maintained contact with Ron, you might want to get this to him to try out on CD#3.

I sent him your suggestion along with a few of my own...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Ron,

I've been trying to figure out what the third password to the third disk is. A friend of mine suggested "phobia" as a possible answer. I've been trying to brainstorm by looking at the other two passwords...

Insania: insanity, irrationality, madness, folly
metus: fear, dread, anxiety

They are latin, so I'm assuming the third password will also be in latin. The two words seem sort of similar in a way. One being about madness and one being about fear. Could the third have something to do with fear that leads to madness? Or the house that causes fear that leads to madness. Possible words could be "domus" (house) or "timor" (fear, dread, object causing fear)

I hope this helps somehow. BTW, I know I said it before, but I'm glad that you're alive. I was fearing the worst.

check out the source info
I did a translate of the message and came out with this (Italian):

chain dell'ombra of the dead women

it's actually "chain of the shadow of death", according to several different translation sites....

I cannot help but comment about this.
Using two of MY favorite translators,
google and worldlingo,
I get

"chain of the shadow of the dead women"

Chain could refer to a "link" possibly?
Any suspicious-looking shadows of dead women?
