Tried calling the magazine company, but for some reason my cell phone wouldn't let me - I had the right country code, but it refused to go through. It'd be cool if one of you UK fellas could give them a ring and see if they have an article in issue 44 about the "House of Carde."

Company Calls

Has anyone considered calling Stella Artoris customer relations and asking them if this a marketing campaign?
If it is just a marketing campaign, they wont hesitate to tell the caller, if it something more, then whoever calls might espect a more cryptic answer.

Fibonacci numbers and the assessment process

This is the first ARG that I've tried to involve myself in, rather than just watch from afar, so bear with...

Anyone else make the connection between all the Fibonacci numbers on the websites and the Golden Ratio question on the assessment test? The two concepts are pretty closely related, but I can't think of how to use that as far as the game...

Also, the horoscopes (I forget what sign...) mention turning over an hourglass. Has anyone tried to flip the picture of the hourglass from the antique ad and see what's reflected there? It seems pretty indistinguishable to me, but maybe one of you knows things that i don't.

I tried flipping the hourglass image and couldn't make anything out. And the fibonacci thing... it seems it should be a CLUE especially as it's the only puzzle-theme continued on HelpMeFindJon. But how to use it?

I figure that number is a map number of some sort. If not, well. who knows what significance it could have.

Interestingly enough, the following is also a valid link:

http://www.hornchurchstar.com/weather_not_ok.php

As is:

SS Assessment

I've obtained the following soul/derivative scores from the SS assessment:

15/9
45/28
55/34
70/44
75/47

Has anyone received any others?

It seems that after 10 tries, I receive 15/9 every time. It's possible that I'll be able to continue reassessing myself after midnight. I'm using the time of receipt of my initial acquisition email as a benchmark for their timezone, which would mean midnight their time is 11am here (Sydney, Australia). [See note at end.]

Intuitively, it seems that the soul/derivative scores are functions of the number of 'correct' answers. The soul score appears to be directly proportional to the derivate score. I'm not sure how the imitation test (spiral tracing) is quantified though. Perhaps there's a specific 'threshold value', and if your tracing accuracy is above this, your answer is flagged as correct. I haven't encountered any other interactive questions - although one hope question required a choice between 'half-full' and 'half-empty'.

It seems logical that 15/9 would correspond to the minimum possible score. As there are only seven questions, I think it would also be reasonable to assume that the maximum possible score is either 75/47 or one notch higher.

As a previous user pointed out, the list of phrenological organs published in George Combe's Constitution of Man correlates exactly with the categories used in the SS assessment test. There appears to be a one-to-one relationship between category names and questions, meaning that that each category contains only one question. As there are a total of 35 categories (from Combe's list), there should only be 35 possible questions.

NB: It is also possible that you are prevented from reassessing yourself after you have seen all questions at least once. I created a list of (almost) all of the questions I had seen, expecting to only have around half of the 35 categories. It seems that I have actually seen nearly all of them.

There were two or three tests which I rushed through and didn't record. It is possible that the questions that I have flagged as 'unseen' were actually displayed during those rounds.

This would imply that users can only reassess themselves a finite number of times!

Hopefully, this is not the case. I don't particularly want to be stuck with a soul score of 15/9.

I've included my list of questions (categorised according to Combe) below:

It seems to me that the Assessment tool is either recording:

- all entries
- your best or worst entry
- or possible only your first or last entry

Talking of ratios and relations - noticed the ratio between your soul value and its dervative... nearest whole number to the Golden Section?

House of Carde

Morning all! I've just recieved the Flux mag; I'm afraid I don't have time this morning to go through it with a fine tooth comb but I'll have a proper look tonight, and I'll scan it once I'm at home for long enough! At a 'first impressions' level though it doesn't seem to teach us anything new; there is a doublepage ad (second one) and then about 4 pages of text in a diary-like format telling the story of our boy Carde, who made a pact but didn't pay attention to the fine print. Seems he got complacent and started to believe that he acchived it all on his own. One of the clauses was that he had to retain total control over all the businesses he was rewarded with, but he failed to do that and was zapped by a thunderbolt when out on the catwalk. There were mentions of hewalksamongus.com and S&S but no new domains that I saw (again, casual glance on the tube rather than in-depth reading).

Hope that's enough to be getting on with! I'm not sure if there was any clue in this or if it was just someone in the office wanted to make a few quid with some leftover promotional materials. It is worth noting that if it was the Puppet Masters themselves then they made a rookie mistake- the eBay account is registered to a lowedigital.com email address! We'll see.

Another copy of Flux has gone on sale on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=280&item=4503906711&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW Also it comes with a CD-ROM so I'll give that a spin tonight too.

Fortunately, I am now able to confirm that the SS assessment test is 're-enabled' after a reasonable period of time has passed. I think it's roughly six hours.

Guess I'll keep trying... Smile

Two of the questions missing from exegete's post... I've never encountered and individuality or colouring question that I can recall.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
#2. Philoprogenitiveness - Do you have any children, pets or other dependents?
#25: Weight - Have you ever suffered from vertigo?

I've since received the remaining two questions. We should now have a complete list.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
22. Individuality - Do you have a 'life plan'?
26. Colour - Do you suffer from colour blindness, or have you ever failed an Ishihara test?

I can only presume that, since no-one seems to have progressed any further with the assessment test, the highest score has not yet been achieved.

(It would be frustrating in the extreme if we simply had to 'wait', as we have no way of knowing whether this is the case.)

exegete, I think waiting is exactly what we have to do- those of us who registered before Hallowe'en had to do just that for ages! In lots of places their communications refer to paitence, and Jon on the HWAU page says that he waited until he'd almost forgotten all about it! I don't think the intention is for us to have to get a 'full' score- because to do that you'd have to cheat and fill in the questions incorrectly, if nothing else!

Hi i new to this so bear with me.

first a bit of back ground.

I found the Helpmefindjon web site after seeing the URL scrawled on a wall in regents street, London. From there i followed the links to the hewalksamongus/hornchurchstar/sable & shuck web site. so i think this is a corporate promotion starting to ramp up.

On The HMFJ web site brigid says there is a clue on the HWAU web site. When you look at the about jon page on HWAU, he is standing in front of a picture of the cross roads in hornchurch.

Bear with me this is going some where.

after looking through the classified ads in the hornchurch star, I found an ad for guitar lessons By the blues guitarist RobertJohnson (who apprantly sold his soul to the devil as sung about in the blues song cross roads). He says

"Become the best at Johnson's School of guitar.
At the crossroads of Highway 61 and 49. Every midnight"

so last night at midnight i logged on the hornchurch star's web cam to see if any thing happened. the only thing that did occur was the view on the web cam changed angles. So now i am thinking that you would have to get all the differrent angles from the web cam to get a complete over view of the crossroads which may lead to a clue????

will try to view the web cam again tonight at midnight EST not GMt as that would make more sense

Any though's?

Cheers

Forgotten to mention two things

1) on the hornchurch star page the lottory winner has mirror sunglasses on with a reflect of some one and a PC screen in the reflection i have zoomed into the reflection but lossed the resolution so could not make any thing out other that shapes. maybe some one has better image S/W then me.

2)i scaned the sable and shuck web site and found a url for a web designer on www.oneplayer.com although he make no mention of any game on his web site

Cheers
