DC Observer Has anyone checked the byline on the first press-release from New River University dealing with the examination of the painting in France? The source is "DC Observer" and the release is written by the "DCO Foreign Correspondent."
I Googled "DC Observer" and found a link to another story on another site by "DCO Foreign Corrspondent." The article talks about a weapons cache found in London. The story mentions something about a phone number that rings a pay phone in Piccadilly Circus, and there is a picture of the phone.
The site that this appears on is www.InsiderNews.net.
There is another story on that site, from the day before (written by the "DCO Domestic Correspondent"), about a raid on a terrorist cell in Tampa, FL. There are pictures of the inside of the place raided, plus photographs, and drawings, of some of the weapons confiscated.
Something? Nothing? Old News?
I'll assume it's not old news (as it's new to me ), and that it's significant, and will look into it further.
(ps, why can't I log in?)

Possible find I found hidden on the www.insidernews.net page the email address "sdxdeaddrop@yahoo.com"
The story about the terrorist cell being raided in Florida mentions that the place that was raided was called "Fatah Custom Tailors." There is a web page for them: www.sohodrive.com/fatah/
The earlier story says that the terrorists in Florida had received weapons over the years from the UK. The later story says that the weapons cache that was found in London was destined for Jacksonville, FL.

did some digging of my own, since those web pages looked familiar.
when I googled sdxdeaddrop, I was reminded of the ARGN forum from last summer.
http://www.argn.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=24
this must have been part of the SDX game.
there was a yahoo group, and discussion in the ARGN forums, but nothing since last August.

I came across the same stuff (including crossing paths with Alias...).
I was afraid I had crossed games, but, it's odd that the New River University page has a press release from the same fictitious "D.C. Observer", filed by the same "DCO Foreign Correspondent".
Is it a coincidence?

What I find even MORE suspicious than the DC Observer/DCO Foreign Correspondent "coincidence" is that the formatting on the "Researcher Locates Lost Medieval Art" press release at NRU is now different.
Correct me if I'm wrong but:
(1) Didn't all the press releases used to be in Arial font? (the "Researcher Locates Lost Medieval Art" release is now in enlarged Times New Roman)
(2) Didn't all the titles (i.e. in the title bar) of all the press releases used to be in the format YYYYMMDD? (the "Researcher Locates Lost Medieval Art" release's title is now "Researcher Locates Lost Medieval Art")
(3) I'm sure that the pics of Dr. St. Vincent in this press release AND the one in which the painting is verified were both "mailto:" links.
Well, what I'm saying is that the page seems different now. I could be just getting restless for L3 to get going again and imagining things.

You are absolutely correct. The font on the first NRU press release (the one from DC Observer) is in a Times-Roman font, while the others are in an Arial font. The formatting on the DC-O press release at NRU is entirely identical (font, source/byline, date/time) to that on the stories that appear on www.insidernews.net.
There is a third story of this type on InsiderNews.net. It's under the June 2002 archives.

If insidernews.net is part of a different game AND not part of L3 then I would imagine the similarities may be due to the 2 games having common PMs and they reused the format for a press release.
In any case, if the L3 PMs purposedly changed the format of that particular press release then there must be something significant there.

Those do seem to be the only explanations, which can be summarized as:
1) These things are indeed part of the L3 game, and therefore significant
-or-
2) They are an oversight on the part of the L3 developers, not part of the game, and should be ignored.
Perhaps a carefully worded query to the fine folks at Landau-Luckman would be in order. Assuming that the PM's monitor this board, I would wonder whether their silence on the matter is a tacit acknowledgment of condition #1 (I don't think the requisite period of "silence" has yet occured, btw).

Guys, I was the PM for SDX and also run the deaddrop site.
Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but I've made the two main websites I used for SDX available to any PM's who wish to use them. This includes hosting, formatting and content as needed.
I can't comment about any specifics (please don't read this as an implied acknowledgement of any communications between deaddrop and L3 PMs), but it wouldn't be out of line for them to borrow pages or ask for things to be posted on insider news if they thought it might help the game.
You can get the specifics about my offer here:
