Hmm, I'm slightly flummoxed, have formatted the middle section based on Alzheimers' post above, in case it might help someone..

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Based on:

T = 11----
G = 1---
P = 3$^@#*&#$&
E = 2+=+=+=+=
W = 7?<{}|
R = 9+)&%
Y = 4*&%$*
T = 12|}{~~~
O = 5$&@#(!@~~~
C = 6$*#*(#
J = 10*(&$&$&
N = 8

(ignoring the garbage for the moment)
We can put the letters against the rows in the table above like this:

_-_ABCDEFGHIJKLMN
01_01101010100111 G
02_00111010011111 E
03_01111010101111 P
04_00000011010011 Y
05_01011010101111 O
06_00011010011101 C
07_00001010000111 W
08_00010010011100 N
09_10010010101011 R
10_00001110010011 J
11_00111111001011 T
12_00101110011011 T

Where to go from this?

Just a little bit more for those trying the middle puzzle:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

These are the "Operators" used:

=
-
$
^
@
#
*
&
+
?
<
{
}
|
%
~
(
)

And here are the operators and line numbers as they appear:

11 ----
1 ---
3 $^@#*&#$&
2 +=+=+=+=
7 ?<{}|
9 +)&%
4 *&%$*
12 |}{~~~
5 $&@#(!@~~~
6 $*#*(#
10 *(&$&$&

Finally, on an absoultely unrelated website, I found this text which googled picked up in a search for "y3o0"

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

doh!

it's the same cryptogram, because it's a keyboard cryptogram.
move each character on your keyboard down one row.

8->I
3->E
etc.

Oh... that sorta makes sense, because it's basically like someone just missed typing on the home row by one row...

Damn, that's interesting.

And, [SPEC], maybe all that operator garbage is just that, garbage? Because if you run those ones and zeroes through a binary translator...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

T = 11
G = 1
A = 3
P = 2
E = 7
W = 9
R = 4
Y = 12
T = 5
O = 6
C = 10
J = 8

And cut out the garbage, this looks like one of those old keys that you would get back in third grade and say "Ok, let's solve the numerical puzzle kids!" and there would be some phrase written in numbers that you would have to solve using the "special" key.

But, after this... eh... lost with that grid, because we're definetly not going across the grid. It doesn't make any sense if you do. Not even by anagrams or anything.

Going to work on this later... need to get food and work on chemistry now.

Uhh.. our friend Strike posts - slightly randomly - in the archived Subcity Central forum...

AHA!!! the key!!!

reformatting....

done.

Plus an attachment.

EDIT: Just noticed this was following another post which just contained the following, which is obviously what strike32 'reformatted' into the notepad file that was posted.

Quote:

Use me, save me as gateway.key in notepad.

I got it! I got it!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Add the 1s in each column.

_-_ABCDEFGHIJKLMN
01_01101010100111
02_00111010011111
03_01111010101111
04_00000011010011
05_01011010101111
06_00011010011101
07_00001010000111
08_00010010011100
09_10010010101011
10_00001110010011
11_00111111001011
12_00101110011011
----1,3,5,7,9,3,12,2,4,6,8,7,10,11

And then use the key I posted above...

T = 11
G = 1
A = 3
P = 2
E = 7
W = 9
R = 4
Y = 12
T = 5
O = 6
C = 10
J = 8

To get...
GATEWAYPROJECT

And the put it in for the abcdefghijklmn and you get...

http://gatewayproject0.tripod.com

But I tried that, and I found out the words were backwards too. The real address is...

http://projectgateway0.tripod.com

Plus at the bottom, someone wrote this:

I remember I accidentally dropped the key in a subway station in a HUGE CITY! Maybe I shouldn't have done that? Security compromise and all that... oh, screw you Rowen. You wouldn't find it anyway.

The words key, subway station, and HUGE CITY were all in different colors. My immediate interpretation after reading the above post is "Subcity Central" (Subway + City).

And now it's asking for us to insert the key into the keyhole... but there's no place on the website to insert what we found. And the links on the page are all 404 errors except for the ads.

I did enter my e-mail where it asked for it. I didn't get anything yet, but I'll let everyone know if I get something.

Nice work Deltina! I spent a couple hours working on that to no avail.

There is actually a null byte (0, %00), I'm not sure what that is about.

There are now a few weird posts on the subcity central board. I think they're related to this.

Unless I misparse the source code, I think the box that asks for an e-mail address goes to

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
projectgatewaySPLATcomcast.net .

For the heck of it, I tried e-mailing them.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Subject line of "HOT", with the gateway.key file attached, and just my "~S.D." sig in the body of the message.

Will let y'all know if I hear anything.

There is stuff hidden in the sound files on the 32ndnotes site.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In The Call: http://rejudgereligion.cjb.net (which seems to be an invalid site) and
"y3o0"

In Stronger: http://webprotect.freewebs.com/Password/password.jsp?username=32ndnotes&filename=WEBPROTECT-slashit.htm (twice)

In Rock DJ: http://www.freewebs.com/32ndnotes (don't know why)

Nothing immediately obvious in Deep Darkness (creepy though)

The 32nd notes site appears to be a girl called Emily Freedman's music site, where she has uploaded stuff by her favourite artists. She talks about the music getting corrupted, which is presumably why the messages that Stormalong found appear. There is also a chat room, which I can't seem to get into at work. Does it work for anyone?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

This site, which Stormalong found in the Stronger file:
http://webprotect.freewebs.com/Password/password.jsp?username=32ndnotes&filename=WEBPROTECT-slashit.htm
asks for a password. Is that our next task? I'm not sure. It appears to be Emily's freewebs account. I tried Britney, Robbie and BackstreetBoys, but no luck.

edit- Sent gateway.key there with an subject of "Here is the key."

edit- bounced back. email not valid. But it seemed like it would be with all those HOTs and MAILs.

Will edit if it bounces.
