[META] [SPEC] Does this style seem familiar to anyone else?

I was thinking about the whole game today...how it just keeps on giving us new stuff, answering questions with questions, and leading us on in a way that makes us wish the game would never end. I was thinking about all the circumlocution, the way the authors mix mythology and technology, the way they mange to constantly shift our focus.

I also remembered the X-Files references in the main character names, and when I heard about Kamal's "dead" sister - such an obvious reference! - I had an interesting thought.

What are the chances that some of the key writers from the X-Files are actually PMing the Haunted Apiary? Do we know what they've been working on since the show ended? Of course, this is pure speculation on my part, but after all it's fun to speculate. Cheers.

Actually, without linkage to actual posts (cuz that could take a while) I know that GunsmithCat was working on similar theories or parallels.

(I'm not sure he thought it was PM'd by anyone directly involved with the X-Files, but I do know he alluded to X-File type action going on, either in homage or directly paralleled.)

But yeah, it is interesting.

My understanding is that after a certain season, most of the X-Files writers went into protective custody.

The parrellel I was making actually was that it's similar brain tease. These aren't necessarily puzzles (a few anymore) but that the "game" now is to try and making leaps over plot holes, knowing that the writers will probably be filling them in later. (we hope)

Well, one thing's for sure

In any case Im sure Darrin Morgan isn't PMing. The game would be a lot weirder if he was. We'd find guys in bee suits at the GPS coordinates waiting to pass out honey suckers with clues in them.

The difference between ILB's leading us on and the X-FIles' leading us on is, I'm fairly sure almost all of the text for the Haunted Apiary (and certainly the axon plot) have been prepared long in advance. Dana's blogs seem very pre-arranged to me. The only thing that has to be written in realtime is the question and answer sessions with the SP. I'm pretty sure that (unlike the TV series model where it's to the show's advantage to keep the mystery going indefinitely) the plot holes here are not just for the writers to fill in later. At some level, they are already filled in.

I know it's wild spec...I just thought that as long as I was considering X-Files fans I might as well go the whole hog.

Whoever they are, I wish I could send 'em a thank you note.
