[PUZZLE] Hot Axons Wav Files

When each Axon goes hot, a new wav file is made available. What do they mean? How do they fit together?

There's some scattered spec about this stuff, I just wanted to add some words of caution before any real analysis.

Don't be quick to assume that you're hearing the same person on multiple files -- look at all the details. Especially important is the background noise. We have a lot of 1 guy/1 girl files that people are assuming are from the date, but some of them have drastically different background noise from the others.

Real analysis later Smile

Here's my quick and dirty analysis of the files.
I've listed the characters, what they're talking about, and what can be determined about the background.
I've also tried to group the ones that clearly belong together, and order the ones that appear to be sequential.

Jersey's clips
jersey
Jersey Morelli and an AI
Jazz in the background

reflected
Jersey Morelli and an AI
Jazz in the background

durga
Jersey Morelli and an AI
Jazz in the background
====
Jan James's clips
pqi -- tapespeed sound at beginning
Janissary James and a cop
In a police station or something similar

stupid_cop
Janissary James and a cop
In a police station or something similar

yes_or_no
Janissary James and a cop
In a police station or something similar

nervous
Janissary James, James James, and a cop
In a police station or something similar

walkaway_girl
Two cop-type guys observing Jan James and trying to capture her
In a police station or something similar
====
An apparent date
our_hoodlums
A guy and a girl talking about Aiden
Piano and restaurant sounds in the background

much_lifting
A guy and a girl talking about their mothers
Piano and restaurant sounds in the background
====
A conversation after the date?
guilty
A guy and a girl talking about Aiden
Cricket and nighttime sounds as well as honking in the background

say_something
A guy and a girl talking about spying on people
Cricket, honking, and nighttime sounds
====
Perhaps later after the date?
tuna
A guy and a girl talking about humiliating her boyfriend
Walking into a room
====
A different date?
parasites
A guy on a date talking to Hiro who's monitoring/coaching him
In a restaurant or something similar

eyes
A guy on a date talking to Hiro who's monitoring/coaching him
Waiter enters to tell him he's been dumped
In a restaurant or something similar
====

There's my basic summary -- as you can see, I've used the background sounds as a primary indicator of which clips should be grouped.

Quick note: unlike some people, i DO NOT believe that the guy in parasites on the date is Jersey. Sounds like a different actor to me.

I'll attempt to keep this updated for a while as we get more clips.

There is some frenzied disscussion on IRC, we've come to a few conclusions so far. The clips combine to make larger clips, unknown if it is all one big clip or not yet. These are the links we've made so far:

dizzy ->
???
(the conversations are linked, but there's a gap) ->
jersey ->
reflected ->
durga ->
pqi ->
yes_or_no ->
stupid_cop ->
??? ->
nervous

This is the farthest we've gotten with that string. I think our_hoodlum, much_lifting, and parasites -> eyes are linked. They all concern a dinner, most likey the one talked about in tuna.

As for the others, the gaps are too big. I'll post more when we get more stuff. Boy, I love actually being quick enough to help in the assembly of these clips, this is fun Razz

EDIT: added stupid_cop to the conversation.

My latest analysis:

I think the taperecorder-revving sound signals the beginning or end piece of a given story. Given that, I'm 99% sure that Jan James's story starts:

pqi
starts with rev sound
ends with "I told the MPs, I was lost"
stupid_cop
starts with "I didn't ask what you told the MPs"
ends with "Are you too smart to get caught by a stupid cop?"
yes_or_no
starts with "Wh... what?"

At this point I think we still have holes to the other Jan stuff, but I'm certain these three start the story and go in this order.

Following from my previous spec, one of the dates may be a very short story:

parasites
starts with tape up-rev
ends with "Chapter 3. Share your interests."
eyes
starts with "Chapter 3?!"
ends with tape down-rev

It's possible these two are it for this portion of the story.

Edit: What LilSerf said. Smile

Though I would like to add that nervous.wav seems to end the Jan James arrest section, as it has the rev-down sound.

Angela, try playing durga and pqi back to back. Durga is a conversation between Jersey Morelli and the female AI. At the end, Jersey asks her for pictures of Janissary James, and the AI responds "I can do better than that". You then hear some tape noise. PQI starts with tape noise. I think the pqi -> yes_or_no -> stupid_cop -> ??? -> nervous discussion is a pre-recorded tape that the AI is playing for Jersey.

I could be wrong, but they just seem to fit together too well. Play them for yourself and decide.

Bobman...

I see what you're getting at. I think we just have different definitions of "one long clip". It does seem plausible that Durga is playing the tapes of Jan for Jersey. But then where do the other clips come in? Other people Durga spied on for Jersey?

It might be true that the Jan James clips insert into Jersey's story, but we don't need to commit to that at this point. The main thing we can do right now is to piece together the stuff that's unquestionably supposed to go together. My latest ruminations are below:

Jersey's "story" looks like this to me:
dizzy -- beginning sound
(missing)
jersey
reflected
durga
(missing ending sound)

Jan's "story":
pqi -- beginning sound
stupid_cop
yes_or_no
(missing)
nervous -- ending sound

and then walkaway_girl seems to be about her as well, but it's unclear where that fits.

Another pair that seem to make a short "story":
our_hoodlums -- beginning sound
much_lifting -- ending sound

And another short pair:
parasites -- beginning sound
eyes -- ending sound

Which leaves a lot of others that we don't have beginning/ending chunks for yet. Clearly, I'm using some spec here on what the structure is and how the tape sounds relate to the story, but I think it's pretty solid spec.

LilSerf - I can see we're on the same wavelength here. I put them together just the same way.

Guilty seems to be it's own piece, as it has the beginning and ending noises.

Isn't this fun! Though I'm upset that we missed four_goats! That's the first one missed in hours.

www.thebruce.ca has the text of the current files, though he hasn't stitched them into the proper order yet. Seems easier to do it with the text tho' than listening to the audio...

More comes to light from message_saved -- here's a tentative meta-linking.

our_hoodlums->much_lifting is a date where the girl talks about Aiden.

In say_something you hear the same characters talking about "ghosting".

message_saved has her calling a guy named "Kamal" to thank him for his help with the Aiden thing. Presumably Kamal is the guy she was on the date with when she discussed Aiden.

She also calls back and asks him to "ghost" someone.

guilty seems to be Kamal and the girl meeting later to discuss her ghosting request.

EDIT: elaborated and corrected

thebruce page is interesting, but I STRONGLY disagree with his assumption that Jersey is the guy on the date. If you listen carefully Jersey's voice is quite different from the voices in 'parasites' and 'eyes'. Other than that, a useful resource.

The arrival of hey_dad finishes the primary Jan James story as far as we can tell:

pqi -- beginning sound
stupid_cop
yes_or_no
hey_dad
nervous -- ending sound

All fits together quite nicely.
