Not Involved?

Of the large number of people who were involved on the first day, maybe 30% or less appear to give a clockwork rat's patoot anymore. Why? It isn't as though it is absolutely required that you do these on Tuesday, but hardly anyone is even bothering to do them on the weekend.

It seems like Dana has put forward a way that even those who have not been able to be involved can get involved.

For example, I am about to call my cousin in Minneapolis to see if he can pick up one of the two that are still needed for thin_kinkle. I have been running all over the SF area to get axons, and why? Because I think it is fun as heck. When I first saw the coordinate lists on ilovebees, I knew I was going to get involved. And now I am about to try to explain to a relative why he should run out on sunday morning to wait for a payphone that is going to be called by a computer.

I have been reading some about other ARGs, like the Beast. From what I understand, there was one puzzle in that where there was an audio file of water drops that were a message in morse code. And then the text from that had to be fed into an enigma machine. That is a pretty darn difficult puzzle. But this is a very difficult puzzle too!

Right now, we have 5 audio files that have not been unlocked. Perhaps will not be unlocked if we can't solve this problem: How do you answer phones you do not have direct access to?

Some people have called the businesses where the phones are located and gotten employees to help. I am going to try a relative. I only have so many relatives though...we need to use our imaginations to come up with creative solutions.

We have two days to unlock 5 files. I think it is unfortunate that the one puzzle that may be unsolved is the one that requires contact with the world outside the computer.

I just got off the phone, and my cousin says he will try to check it out tomorrow. We also talked for an hour about other things. Maybe he will unlock it tomorrow, maybe he will be busy with something else. Whatever happens, I am glad I called.

You might be too!

With the Most Sincere Apology to Martin Luther King

When we let pay phones ring, when we let them ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of Melissa's children, black axons and white axons, Jew and Gentile axons, Protestant and Catholic axons, will be able to join nerve fibers and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Hot at last! Hot at last! Thank God Almighty, we are hot at last!"

I have a dream that one day every drone shall be exalted, every queen shall be made low, the honey will flow on the plain, the workers will be rewarded, and the glory of the Operator shall be revealed, and all beekeepers shall see it together.

ha

hey psh, i'm not whinning about whinning (sic). I'm just trying to help people remember that this is just a game and shouldnt be criticized so harshly by the players. And i don't see what you mean by i shouldn't play. Are you implying that maybe the complaints are in game? Did the PM's tell people to post negatively about this game as a twist? SHADDAP IDIDOTH. I'm just tired of people ruining my experience and wasting space on the forums for "whinning".

Farout, don't listen to that guy. You made this thread and whether anyone
realizes it or not, most of the posts here have a positive tone stated by
people who have a respected presense in these forums.
I would call that "Mission Accomplished". Very Happy

Laughing Laughing Laughing

dude, I'm not laughing at you, but this comment. I'm not putting it down, though cuz in general I know everyone is feeling like this, or has from time to time!

The truth is this game is set the way the PMs have planned it, and we must choose to play or walk away. I choose to play. I may wish that other changes were made (I do) and I could have some great ideas that would make the game better (I do) but it's not my game. I realize that, and I GREATLY respect the work that has gone into this ILB saga! Like vpisteve said, I think all of my "issues" stem from my high expectations from the beginning of the game. I would love to change some things (no more axons, for example!) but I'm still playing, and I'm still grateful to play.

Think about all those that aren't state-side, who are still playing! (big-old shout-out to Sherpa, and all you UKers and Euros and others around the world!) Not only do they see axon after axon, but they're COMPLETELY out of control here... They cannot activate axons, even if they want to. That's gotta be frustruating, and they deserve to have their say about it. But I think that most would agree that even though things are happening at a frustruating pace, it's still a quality experience, however you "package" or "label" it. But people can whine, if they want, IMO. I just think that the difference is when you can tell someone is whining to "friends" (those who are in the same boat), and those who are whining to be heard. Those who just want to be heard should be quiet. I agree there, but those whining to emote a shared experience.... what's wrong with that?

Seeing the megapuzzle that the PMs dropped today I'm wondering. Is this the kind of puzzle most ARGers were waiting for?

Don't get me wrong. I'm pretty excited by all this recent events. I was also getting a little tired of the axon thing. But this event raises more questions than answers over the innerworkings of the game. The puzzle seems pretty elaborate yet I'm wondering if this was really made pre-game or was made in response to the community outcry for something more other than axons.

This might be the point where you stop worrying about it, get yerself a (root) beer, and enjoy what you can.

As far as I can tell, the puzzles, while possibly used as a stopgap to the stagnation and frustration of the axons, still fits really well inside the universe/format of the game. The Sleeping Princess is wily, and this all seems in character. It was a bit frenetic, to be sure, and those bastiches in IRC solved nearly everything while I covered someone else's lunch at work (me? bitter?) Very Happy - but it's not like the puzzles didn't make sense. It was a way to ease us back in again.

It was fun. I hope they do that again, and soon.

regardless of whether this was originated prior to the game's launch (unlikely, IMO) or due to the complaining going on (likely, IMO), it was still exactly what I was looking for. Again, it wouldn't make the game less "good" without puzzles, but it becomes more of what I would typically call an ARG with these types of puzzles. I mean, we're still getting the same types of sound clips for "rewards", and other args would have more puzzles or new websites for "rewards" but I'm totally stoked about the direction those puzzles took. I loved it! (and I didn't solve a dang one of em, but it was still a much more exciting day than "hmm... I wonder if someone will enhottenate the axon in Alaska?", ya know?)

[teletubby]Again! Again[/teletubby]

Seriously, those puzzles were much more like it!

Metaphorical biscuits to the PMs.

(argh, now I have to write them all up....!!!)
