Well, I'm not trying to be a party pooper here, but the truth is, if you're going to pick up a phone and pretend that who you're speaking to is anything but an actress, then you shouldn't break that fourth wall either, and say "I LOVE HALO!!!" It's just bad form. I know you were most likely joking, by the couple of smileys on your post, but this didn't deserve its own topic then... But if you were serious, then it's a serious "behind the curtain" event to bring the game "Halo" into this instance. It would be an inconsistency that would make Melissa have to do something strange or just plain hang up, to deal with, in-game... It's just bad form... (sorry for repeating that, but it's what separates us from those who make up 99.999% of the posts to Dana's Blog, for instance...)

yee-ss. A potentially humorous idea but one Melissa will probably not like. I imagine if anyone else gets a live axon they're going to want to answer properly to get on the crew, anyway...

Here's a good favourite game: "Telephone"!
For those who don't know, "Telephone" involves lining people up in single file. The first person in line writes down a short sentence, then whispers it into the second person's ear ONCE. No repeats, and no clarifications are allowed. The second person then whispers what he/she heard into the third person's ear ONCE. And so on, until the message reaches the end of the line. The last person says aloud what he/she heard, and then the first person reads the original sentence. The two are rarely the same.
Not only does it have a good META chuckle-factor, but it also does drive home what we're doing... reconstructing an original message from a partial and garbled retelling.
Me likes.

how about "virtual combat simulations"
Melissa: i dont understand
crewman: they're games where you play the roll of a supersoldier, take on the entire Covenant single handedly and survive
Melissa: that doesn't seem like a very realistic scenario

I'm just curious as to what kind of ship you should all be assigned to, according to your favorite games.

My answer of "telephone" probably puts me right next to Melissa, but doing the intel interp instead of the crypto.

So the Covenant really didn't glass Troy, but instead were just helping us out by gassing up a failing space buoy.

I didn't get asked, but mine is Paintball.
"What is paintball?"
"A game played by civilians using air propelled paint launchers to 'mark' their targets before they are marked in turn. A war game of sorts involving small unit tactics."
I'm a marine for sure (well, a Marine would probably be offended by that and say that I didn't deserve that, but deserved to be in the Army instead )

Melissa: What's your favorite game?
Me: I Squish Bees.com
Melissa: What is that?
Me: Oh, it's quite simple. I go there and I squish bees. And then I make fun of them. Verbally. With my mouth.
Melissa: That doesn't sound fun.
Me: It's not. It just gives me a place to vent about this whole damn game.
