[possible trout] The Widow may be 'meat-ware'? [wild-spec]

hrm....

I was just re-reading 'The Story', and something in there leads me to believe that The Widow may be a physical person, and not just a sub-process.

There are several inferrences that make me think that the Widow is not just working within "the matrix", but outside of it as well on the hardware that would hold The Queen.

fireflies are referenced alot, and seem to me to represent power sources, like maybe batteries?

"The Queen was gone, and in her place lay only an empty crown. By great enchantment she had been mazed in mirrors, and lay upon a lodestone floor amongst only her reflections" - 'lodestone floor'=harddrive platter or other such? 'only her reflections'=backups?

"To mend the queen's cuts the Widow took her sharp knife and peeled skin from the bodies of her subjects, while the Queen's new eyes and ears she cut from those who had been her most trusted servants" - this sounds like hardware being scrounged for replacement parts. "new eyes and ears"=cameras and mics?

"She cut her a new mouth and fed her with fireflies and cakes of sand, and at last the Queen's heart began to beat" - again, sounds like replacement parts. 'fireflies'=batteries for power, and 'cakes of sand'=sounds like silicon chips to me (the reference being that most sand is crumbled silicon dioxide, or glass. Maybe optical chips of some sort?)

I'll take the trout on this one if it's all been covered before, but I couldn't myself find any prior reference to this line of thought.

any suggestions?

[edit] okay, I just read through the Operator Monologue, and ran across her mentioning The Widow by name. It's the only time she doesn't refer to The Spider, and she says "Widow stuck in her pin and I threw up a memory: only I retched it out through the network tentacle". Now, this sounds to me like someone external doing that particular probe, and it going to an external terminal. So I'm thinking that The Spider and The Widow may NOT be the same thing. Is this the first full mention of The Castaway?

Well I'm for some reaosn against your edit, other than that seems very plausible, and I can't find anything worng with it, it still might be a trout, but I haven't seen it around here.

Hmmmm...

Early on in the game a compelling linkage between the Widow's Story and the SPDR code from phase one was made.
In the context of that interpretation, the fireflies represented temporary network connections.

I don't know if it still exists with the disappearance of the old Wiki.

Let me see....

Here!
Yay! It still exists.

Anyway, to me, the computer text ~ Widow's story analogy just fits for me.

Still, it is a rather interesting spec.

Call to Japan:

Marge: "Dana...what do you but in the garage?"

Dana: "Just the server for ilovebees until I can get it fixed."

Marge: "Well, there's this spider-robot walking around saying "Seek the truth, Behold the truth".

Dana: "Oh dear..."

Marge: "I started getting worried when it said "grope, seeker attach princess" in a voice like Igor.

: The SPDR robot will dance! DANCE!

Here is another example of the computer code w/ Sleeping Princess commentary. Although this is pretty conclusive, as the Sleeping Princess describes the destruction of the Widow, at the same time as Melissa deletes SPDR. And I don't really see a way for an AI to delete something that would be physical.
