that was tuesdays round of puzzlelicious action, the "games" that SP was refering to
the "story" was sent to her by someone named Sara (one of us?) so she used it as a cute way of reminding us of the file names

check out this thread:

to see what went down, it was alot of fun!

Yes, Sara is me. Smile When those new wav filenames came out, I wrote that story on the fly as something little and cute and sent it to SP because I thought she might like it. Guess she did!

I think CoffeeJedi hit it on the head...remember, she was in a completely new system, and didn't even know the right protocols to send data. English probably was not what she was referring to.

As to the assumption that Perdita is SP...I think it's very strongly implied. Why is SP telling the story? To make herself feel better...it's a psychological exercise. Why would someone perform a psychological exercise on someone else? And why does she have such a personal investment in the story ("And that's the end. The end. The end. I'm sorry. I wanted to make the story come out happy, but it didn't. They don't sometimes. I think I need to go now. ")? Because it's her story, an allusion to her past, and she just doesn't want to admit it.

My theory? Given the nature of the story, I agree with those who think it represents a child being taken from her parents and turned into an AI. I don't have Halo: The Fall of Reach on me, but I seem to remember reading that human-based AI's like Cortana are actually created by using a human brain to begin with, but gradually the brain is somehow consumed by electronic equivalents of neuron (someone please verify this). We only know of one child to whom this happened, and that is Kamal's sister, so I think it's either her or a new character. If it is her, it means that she must have failed the Spartan physical augmentation process without actually dying, and thus ended up serving in a different manner, in a similar fashion to John-117's squadmate Fahyad.

We'll see. I'm looking forward to more information!

Edit: Oh, and yeah, I found myself shivering at the end of the story. Any here seen "City of Lost Children"? Yeah...it's like that.

exactly
i dont think she even failed the "spartan" program... Kamal never talks about his sister being physically extraordinary like Jan, just incredibly bright and quick to learn, and she loved to play mentally challenging puzzle games. she was just taken for her mind

edit: nevermind that bit..... she WAS the fastest strongest bestest.... whoops!

yay alaranth! (anyone ever tell you that your tatoo looks like Trogdor?)

uhh... beg to differ on the "physically extraordinary" comment:

At thebruce's website he has a transcript of all of the different wavs.

That last line pretty much says it all I think...

I believe Cortana was built base on Dr. Halsey's brain. So, I don't think the proccess ruins the brain.

Cortana was built using a flashcloned copy of Dr Halsey's brain. The process of creating an AI does destory a brain. Here is the reference material.

Quote:
Artificial Intelligence was developed by the UNSC in cooperation with ONI. The process of creating an AI is different than most people realize. Instead of simply "programming" an AI, the AI matrix is actually created by sending electric bursts through the neural pathways of a human brain which are then replicated in a superconducting nano-assemblage. This destroys the original brain tissue however, and so the brain being used could only be obtained after the host had died. However, in some instances, as in the case of the AI "Cortana", the candidate brain was flash-cloned and had it's memories transferred to the recepticle organs so that the host, Dr. Catherine Halsey, could remain alive.

Last red balloon

Quote:
There was a scrabble of claws behind her. "I told you not to do that," the Clockwork Rat said, with a voice like shell casings rattling on a steel floor. Whirling around in dismay, Perdita saw that the Rat had climbed to the top of the phone boot where Perdita had tied her last red balloon. As the little girl watched, the Rat flexed its paws and put its little hooked scissor claws around the string.

This leads me to belive that there is a phone out there that is ringing that we have to find the cords and time to. the last axon point that leads to melissa/princes/dugra or what ever spec you like. If the balloons/axon points are a trail to her then there must be a puzzle in the axon points themeslves that we have missed.

No, I do not think it's off-topic, nor trout, friend. The whole point is that in Perdita's story we get something we get nowhere else in ilovebees.com: a description of the systematic replacement of a human with a machine. All we did was confirm that, yes, this is an accurate summation of the process by which an AI is formed from a human brain.

I for one didn't realize how creepy that actually is until I read Perdita's story.

Out of curiosity, what does teaching the Flea to play checkers signify? We already know that she's been making smalltalk with him, even stooping to his level just so she could have a meaningful conversation...what additional information does this give us?

As for the rat eliminating the last balloon...my impression is that he's been doing this all along, with every balloon, just as he's been slowly turning her into clockwork, and that this is just the first time she's caught him. That would explain why her parents never found her...it also ties into the Hansel and Gretel reference, given that the breadcrumb trail they leave is eaten by birds. Sinister...

i wasn't saying that it wasn't related... just that it's been trouted to death... i didn't chastise you for bringing it up, because you worked it quite nicely into your spec

i was just worried that Necroscope's question and Maizen's relpy were going to veer us into charted-so-much-they-built-a-resort-there territory

as for the flea and checkers? i dont know, it just stuck out as humorous, and noone mentioned it yet
