There were a bunch of Utah axons, including six right down around Salt Lake City. Per mapquest they mostly all look to be inside the metropolitan area of SLC (except for the ones over near Ogden). You had a bunch available.

I think the confusion stems from your accidental typo in your earlier post... you said (with bold added for emphasis):

I think I'll go with Crisko's analysis of the axon spikes. I use to have 5 Pittsburgh phones, I'm down to 3. Of those 3, two of them I never ever miss. The others were harder to get to for me, and very difficult with my class schedule.

The third is in the air, as I still scout the area where it "says" it's located, but I never hear any ringing and I've checked all payphones in that area.

The best payphone of them all, the "Best Western Phone" as I call it, is something I NEVER miss and almost always hit the second it rings. I even have a procedure of reading the newspaper in the same chair with a soda every time I visit that place, and the staff even knows me as "the guy who picks up the phone and talks to the crazy voice."

Of all my axons, she calls the Best Western with an axon spike and I fall flat on my face because I sorta didn't expect it. Coincidence? I think not as I look at it now. This payphone is clearly the one I favor, and I think they know it. I can reason this out probably the best, because:

A. Pittsburgh is a major city and has had enough phones to classify it as a "medium" axon city. We're not talking alot, but more than the city with 5 payphones in which one is an axon.
B. I'm the only one who answers the phones, so I know when and where and what happens at each location.
C. I know my own patterns and I know when I've missed and when I've hit. Keeping track of my record, I know exactly how well the city is doing.

So that brings me to:

[SPEC] There's an axon spike in each city/area, marked on the payphone with the best record in the area. The trick is, which one is the best out of all of them? Answer that, and you could possibly have an axon spike. [/SPEC]

There is probably substance to your SPEC. The reason that I say this is because the one that Ranger D missed here is one that I've gotten on Tuesday every week for the last 3 weeks. And the one that hmrpita gave to me here was another that I had gotten the previous week, and hmrpita had gotten the week before.

These were "first try" and I'm almost positive "first day" enhotenates.

Looking at it from a [meta] perspective, it would make sense to direct the live conversations to axons that are most likely to be answered by a player.

In my case, the consistency was time based and not location based. There were several locations near me and I consistently answered the ones that rang during or near lunch time. Therefore, no crewmember love for the Nitro.

I'm confused about how the "axon spikes" are (supposedly) working.

I have a phone near me that started being posted on the 2nd week (i_hate_you).

I failed to answer correctly on that Tuesday but got it the next day.

Since then, that phone has been posted each week, and i have answered it on that same Tuesday.

The last time was 8:45 PDT on "one_point_oh", i think.

Anyways, that's 4 consecutive hits. Unfortunately, it seems that by answering my one_point_oh axon so early, i blew any shot of getting a "live" call.

Or did I? Are the Axon Spikes occuring only on un-enhottened axons on the recipe1 page, or are all recipe1 axons still potential Spikes?

fugitive,

We're not certain. If there are live axons nearby, go get them. Hopefully there will be more live calls.

If not, we're expecting more (live?) calls starting next Tuesday to the "Crew."

Ok.

I gotcha.

Since my axon is all taken care of this week, i have to wait until Tuesday
since the possibility for new "live" calls next week remains. in which case when my axon needs enhottening again, i'd have a shot.

Here's a question: Do ya'll think that the locations that the live melissa called were already decided (city-wise) or do you think it was determined that day (based on something like how many axons were answered that day in a particular city or something)?

Since they couldn't know for sure which would be answered that would have been a little risky. And if so, why 2 in DC? Why not spread it around more?

The real answer is the data is too sparse and the factors surrounding each too different to draw any conclusions about the live calls.

If you think you see a correlation, develop the data. Persuade us, or talk yourself out of it.

Aliendial I've actually been working on that. Like you said though, right now there isn't enough data. I have some really solid theories though. I won't put them out yet until I get more proof.

If we get live calls again next tuesday, I'll have a better picture and may be able to tell ya'll how the pms are picking cities. The funny thing is, the reason I'm working so hard on cracking the pattern (if there is one) is because I'm hoping I'll figure out which phone she'll call in my city (if she calls at all) Razz

Actually, DC got at least 3 calls: One to me, one to Chappy, and only after Chappy and I were recognized, there was another live call to the Ballston axon which ArlingtonStranger apparently got.

So there doesn't seem to have been any intent to spread them out geographically.

oh, that's right - Melissa dumped him, even though Chappy was there and briefed him. How odd.
